27 Year Old Female, Finally Getting the Smile That I Want - Norcross, GA

I am 27 years old currently. I have spent most of my adult life not completely happy with my teeth. Back in 2010 I had my wisdom teeth removed and that helped even out some of the crowding. And whitening helped too. But recently, I've gotten really tired of only being able to smile on one side of my face. Most of my spacing issues and crookedness are on the right side of my mouth. Its not much, but it does cause me anxiety and makes me feel less than pretty when I smile.

I have been doing research on ClearCorrect, but I think that I may want to go the traditional route. Most people say that it works faster and costs less. Specifically, I am interested in SixMonthSmile and FastBraces. Both seem to cater to adults who need braces, but don't want all the silver hardware.

I have my first consultation on Wednesday 1/14/15. I have not been to the dentist since my wisdom teeth extractions, so I'm sure I may have some other issues that need dealing with. But we will see how things go.

Please make sure you do a consultation with an orthodontist as well, and not just dentists.  If cost isn't an overriding factor, it's best to play it safe and get all your options.  Dentists can only do a limited number of things in orthodontia, and your best, fastest treatment option may not be available from a dentist.  Your teeth are beautiful now, and getting them straightened out will only improve your smile and, even more importantly, the longevity of your teeth.  A straight smile is healthier and easier to take care of.  This is an investment in the long-term--not just vanity :D.

Oh, and traditional braces are not always cheaper, depending on where you go and who's doing it.  I hope that you'll come back and let us know what the different doctors have to say at your consults.  Very interested to hear what options they give you, since your case really isn't that severe.  Your smile is already beautiful--it will be gorgeous!!!!

Thank you! I have been doing research today and it did scare me that both "quick braces" options can be done by non-orthodontic dentists. I think during my check up I will try to get a recommendation for an orthodontist as well. Cost is a small factor, but making sure that it's done the right way is more important :)

Excellent idea--getting a recommendation from your dentist.  In my case, my dentist always recommended the same orthodontist, and that orthodontist was fine, but there were likely other alternatives that were equally good.  It's a good first step though, and one to definitely check out.  You can see what they say and use that as a learning experience so you can interview others.  I'm sure you already know this--sorry :).  Anyway, excited to hear that you'll be meeting some orthos!

I have the six month smile on right now. I am 4 months in and my teeth look awesome! I am very pleased with the results and shocked at how quickly my teeth moved into place. I would recommend that if you go with six month smile that you find a dentist who has a lot of experience (mine did) and that you don't need a ton of movement with you teeth. I had one tooth that was on top of another and a few that were crowded in! The first two months brought my teeth out then so far the last two months have been moving them back since they are now all straight! I have never had straight lined up top teeth and the transformation has been amazing!

Chris1125, would you consider doing a review, please, so that we can see your progress?  We don't have a lot of reviews of 6-month smiles here on the site.

Oooo you must be so excited to start your orthodontic journey! :) Can I just say, you have absolutely beautiful teeth - I love the shape, size and colour of them! I can totally understand why you'd like to straighten them up to make them look super perfect. I kinda wish I had whitened my teeth before I had my braces put on, I think the clear brackets would have been even less noticeable had I done so. Oh well! It'll be exciting to do all that once they come off. Please keep us updated on your journey, I'm really eager to see whether you decide to go with the braces or the aligners. I had aligners when I was 14, but as a teen I was pretty non-compliant and to this day feel pretty guilty about wasting my parents money on orthodontia :( I'm now 22 years old and I chose braces this time around (clear on top) because I think they're less hassle to deal with (don't have to take them out to eat etc) and you can't be non-compliant with them! I don't find the hygiene issue to be that bad, I was always pretty good and it's not THAT much harder/different with braces on. I thought I would be SO self-conscious with them, but with the clear option I don't really care that much at all! Can't wait to hear how you go :)

I'm just curious, do you have any bite problems or is it just overcrowding?

Had My Consultation Yesterday

So, I had my first dentist appointment in 5 years yesterday and a consultation for ClearCorrect and FastBraces. Surprisingly, I had no issues. My dentist was equally surprised. I have to have a filling replaced, but no cavities or anything. In my dentist office, there are 6 doctors. 2 do ClearCorrect and 2 do FastBraces. My dentist said that I would be a good candidate for ClearCorrect (which she has been doing for 3 years and before that Invisalign for 9 years). It would take a year and cost $3800. She also checked with another dentist about FastBraces, which would be $3500 and take 6 months to a year. I will ask more questions about payment options at my filling appointment on the 28th. Also, I will try to schedule an orthodontic appointment before then as well.

You must have great hygiene!  That will only help you come time for orthodontia :).  Especially if you choose fast braces or some other form of braces.  Excited to hear what an orthodontist says!  Maybe it'll be exactly the same, LOL!
