TDLR: highly recommended surgeon; delighted patient
My experience has been great from start to finish and my expectations way surpassed.
I’d had a botched rhinoplasty many years ago leaving a scooped nose, then a reconstructive revision which was generally successful, but after several years and an injury, my nose looked scooped again and the join between the grafts had become visible. I approached a very highly regarded surgeon in the UK who advised that, due to the complexity of my case, I was not likely to be a good candidate for further revision surgery. The cost would also have likely been very high. They did, however, mention the possibility of using filler, though non-permanent options were all that was available, and I found the prospect of having to continually ‘top up’ my nose very off putting. So after some research I found two highly reputable sounding surgeons in the US offering permanent solutions, one being Dr Kotler.
I chose Dr Kotler after a helpful and informative video chat, partly, in truth, because I preferred the sound of visiting LA to the other surgeon’s location, but also because we communicated well and I felt at ease with him, though both had great-looking before and after pics.
I had the saline demo, was delighted with the potential demonstrated, and so signed up for the package of treatments and have been to visit 4 times in total, which I spaced out over a year. Never any issues getting an appointment for a convenient time, or left waiting long to see him when I arrived.
There was one aspect of the result from the saline demo that I wasn’t 100% on, and over the successive treatments, with me using a pointer stick and special marker pen, and Dr Kotler sharing his opinion also, together we’ve been able to arrive at a result which I’m delighted with!
Many doctors only offer non-permanent filler for use in the nose, and some of those recommend on forums against permanent filler on the basis that a bad result (filled too much) can’t be undone, and that there have been cases of infection in a small minority of patients. After a good amount of research, I felt that the risks of infection were tolerable (though with filler it’s vital to have an experienced surgeon using bona fide medical grade filler to minimise those risks) and that the risk of over-filling could be mitigated by a conservative approach with extra sessions if required.
Looking back, I think my assessment of risk was good and I’m so pleased I chose this treatment and Dr Kotler to perform it. My new nose is not perfection itself, but it looks natural and, yes, nice! And that’s something I was close to losing hope of ever recovering. Do your own research, of course, and carefully consider alternatives; some cases will be better suited for this procedure than others, but for me it’s been just right.
Thank you so much Dr RK!
