This is an account of my traumatic personal...

This is an account of my traumatic personal experience with Dr. Huq.

Throughout my entire life I was extremely insecure about the shape of my nose. After I graduated from university I finally decided that I was going to get professional help. I had a bump on my bridge, the end of my nose was bulbous, and my septum was deviated which caused my nostrils to look crooked and disproportionate. I researched local plastic surgeons by reading online reviews and reviews on their websites. Dr. Huq seemed great because the reviews on his website were outstanding and I had read an article on how he had done a hand transplant. When I read about the transplant I thought wow this man is talented, if he can transplant a hand he can no doubt produce good rhinoplasty results!

I made a consultation appointment to discuss my concerns with Dr. Huq to see if he could help. This was my first time ever discussing my issues with a surgeon, and I was nervous, insecure, and relying on him as a professional to provide me with his opinion on my case.

In hindsight, there were many red flags that I wish I had recognized at the time. Dr. Huq came off as very confident, arrogant, and didn't take me seriously when I was visibly nervous about the procedure. One of the first things he said to me was “Why are you coming to me and not someone else?” and I responded, well because you do rhinoplasty (thinking that if you have the degree, you know what you're doing...). He made me feel confident in him because he mentioned that he had done a rhinoplasty on more difficult noses than mine. He couldn't provide me with any images showing me what my nose would look like (I now know all legitimate rhinoplasty surgeons provide this). I showed him general pictures of what I was hoping for, and he dismissed them and said that they weren't helpful.

The day of surgery: Prior to being brought to the surgical room Dr. Huq did not make it a point to come speak with me or my family. In fact, I was promised that I would get to see my family before the surgery and instead they brought me in for surgery and didn't even tell my family. When I was brought to the surgical room I was administered the anaesthetic even before the Dr. Came to speak to me. As I was slowly becoming unconscious Dr. Huq approached me and said “OK, Britney, let's go over what we are doing today”, and then I went unconscious. Too bad I didn't get the chance to remind him of the things he forgot to fix..

In the end my nose was even worse. I wasn't expecting a perfect nose, but I also wasn't expecting to see new serious imperfections. I specifically requested that I wanted my two nostrils to be the same height, and I wanted the tip of my nose to be less bulbous. The nostrils were untouched, he hardly fixed my deviated septum, and the tip of my nose had a bump on one side that made it look il-proportioned and crooked. At a follow up appointment I expressed my discontent and he shrugged it off and said that I shouldn't expect for it to be perfect because it was a hard nose to deal with. I was visibly upset, almost crying, and he rushed me out of his office.

I then went to a specialist who very blatantly expressed his displeasure with my first surgery. He said that my first surgeon obviously didn't know what he was doing. So now I have lost $5500 of my hard earned money, and a year for which I had to live with a mishaped nose, and have to pay for another surgery (mentally and financially).
A HUGE MISTAKE: I needed a rib graft for the bridge of my nose because Dr. Huq took way too much cartilage off. This additional procedure, needed solely because of Dr. Huqs mistake, increased my revision rhinoplasty recovery period by 2 weeks (which I lost $ for not working, and it was very painful). I now have a visible scar over my rib which could have been avoided. HE SHOULD HAVE REFERRED ME TO A SPECIALIST.

Needless to say my entire experience with my first rhinosplasty through Dr. Huq was extremely traumatizing and I would advise anyone looking for any type of surgery to stay FAR AWAY from him. He is a jack of all trades who doesn't really care what is best for his patients. Thankfully I had an amazing surgeon in Toronto complete my revision rhinoplasty, that I wish I had just gone to in the first place.
