Cheek Implants Were the Worst Decision I've Ever Made - Newport Beach, CA

It's been 20 years. Not a day has gone by that I haven't wished I could go back and just say no. I went in for a consultation to get my eyes done. The doctor insisted I needed cheek implants. I've never looked normal since. It changes your whole face. I look the strangest when I smile. Pictures are the worst. I avoid them as much as possible. I recently went to a professional photographer for my family's Christmas photo. Out of 64 shots, all but two looked abnormal. Every time I look in the mirror, I'm reminded of the huge mistake I made so many years ago.
I'll never look normal. I look very strange from the side. One is real high. Both have a strange ridge where they stop. I've wanted them out since day 1 but no reputable surgeon will do it. I''m so angry at this doctor for pushing them. I'm mad at myself for not just saying no.
If I can save one person from doing it, I am happy. Don't try to change your bone structure. It's drastic and not reversible if it turns out badly. I wish I knew then what I know now.

I find it very strange that no doctor will remove your implants. They should be removed from inside the mouth. What are they made of?

Mylar implants and were put in through the inside of my mouth.
They are just vague saying my face could sag, could look worse, have been in so long it may be difficult at this point. Things like that. One said they look too big for my face but didn't want to try removing them. Just a very bad decision in the first place.

I just had extended year through implants last week and regret it so much. Perhaps it's the swelling. I'm not sure.. I initially went for a lower eyelid lift but my dr recommended a midface lift as well as the implants. The results are not symmetrical and I'm losing hope.

I know it's only been a week since my surgery, but my confidence is nonexistent. How long did it take for your swelling to go down?

Swelling subsided in a few weeks, I think, but they just changed the whole contour of my face. They look wide and high from the side. Both sides sit differently on my face. Straight on they look fine except when I smile. My face naturally raises and that makes them seem bigger and creates a strange look. Overall, just bad. I wish I had taken them out immediately. I kept waiting on it to improve since I was told it would take awhile. That area was also tender and numb for years which scared me, not knowing if there was something wrong. That went away but I'm serious when I said the area felt numb and cold for several years.
It also makes my lower face seem small in comparison.
It just creates a huge unnecessary change with no positive benefits. It's not something that should be taken lightly. It creates a major change in your looks.

You have have them removed and have a lift done at the same time. Many doctors will do this. Cheek implants aren't always bad, but it's technique dependent. Also techniques are different now than 20 years ago.

Yeah something sounds off here, cheek implants are supposed to be easy to remove I doubt no reputable surgeon refused to remove them, perhaps the cost was more than what you wanted to pay to fix.

I had cheek implants by Dr. B 30 years ago & they look awesome! Did WONDERFUL things for the lines under my eyes & gave my bone structure what it needed. They sit on your natural structure, so if that is slightly off kilter that's the natural face structure. Symmetry is the goal, but no face is perfectly symmetrical. When I was thinner they were more noticeable, and now looking at photos I realize a little wight gain may not be so bad after all.... so if you have aged 20 years, are thin, and naturally losing facial fat they may stand out more! Post a photo & let us be the judge! I bet you look great, and perhaps like most of us, are your own worst enemy! Sorry you're not happy, 20 years is a long time for regret, unless it's a husband! LOL!

Dio who did your implants ? I’m so glad to hear you were happy. I have seen some beautiful pics but then also read some horrible reviews. Were your bolted on ?

Dr. Benvenuti, Newport Beach, CA. He also did a repair/rebuild of one breast after an accident, and an additional procedure on that breast after several years as it will always be problematic- great results on all! While under, I had him do my upper eyelids, VERY natural- not 'bug-eyed' like some others. I intend to have him do a facelift in the next year or two, as I took care of a friend of mine who had a full lift from him & was amazed at the teeny tiny stitches & the hidden placement of all the stitches (I was the one tending to them during her first night/day). I have another friend who had basically a whole body overhaul & looks great.....

Wow sounds amazing ! My facelift scars are ugly, deep and noticeable and the “lift” part seemed to be missing from my procedure lol ! I am wondering if cheek implants could make it look better

Well, like I said it really helped my crows feet smooth out.

Actually, you may have been the patient he sent me to meet as a testimonial. I met someone that was his former patient at Mimi's in Tustin to see what they looked like since it wasn't anything I had been considering. Yours looked great and was the reason I went ahead with it. Mine did not turn out like yours. The person I met at Mimi's had fallen on a sprinkler head and had a breast implant rupture which he had also fixed....not sure if you are the same person that he sent me to meet.
I've read the comments above from others. They looked very bad initially and may have gotten less noticeable over the years, so if anything, aging has helped. I think the reason other people haven't wanted to remove them is that they don't want to risk complications since they didn't put them in originally or it's because they've been in so long that maybe it's hard to do. I've never asked about cost since I haven't found anyone willing to remove them. Anyway, should have taken them out immediately.
