My Journey
jody4910March 12, 2022
I think I’m about 5 1/2 years out from the damage.
It has been so difficult, traveling to see Doctors in other states, recovering from treatments, so much money money spent to try and feel ok about my face.
I’ve learned some things along the way. Skin never totally goes back to what it was before damage, hypopigmentation is almost impossible to correct, scars never totally go away. Damaged skin ages faster so it’s a constant maintenance program, cool sculpting is NOT for loose skin but only for very stubborn fat, Fraxel Repair is outdated and has a history of problems. Research everyone and never trust blindly.
With all that being said I’ve been lucky to find outstanding Doctors and practitioners.who were able to recognize the damage and know what caused it and know what to use to try and improve my face.
I’m going to share exceptional Drs and practitioners that I’ve used with you. You may have to travel and none of it is cheap but you only have one face and once the damage is done it is extremely difficult to improve.
Lasers and energy devices…
Marissa at Advanced Skin Medspa in Newburgh Ny.
Dr. William Groff, San Diego, CA
Dr. Jason Emer, Beverly Hills, Florida and New York
Jenn Hollander, Dr Taleis office, Beverly Hills, Ca
Surgery
Dr Ben Talei. Beverly Hills, CA
Dr. Mike Nyack, st Louis, Missouri
Dr Amir Karam, San Diego, CA
Dr Jacono, Ny
I’m sure there are others but these I can recommend. Take the time and look through there before and afters.
To all my damaged warriors, I know how hard it is and PTSD and body dysmorphia are real after damage. We may never be who we used to be but that’s ok, be better. Look within and find all the good inside you. Be strong

Almost 5 years post damage

I’ve had improvement but I will always have damage. I recently went to see a Dr specializing in aesthetics. Without telling him he spotted the damage and knew how it was caused. He said two things;
1. Grid was incorrect and
2. Areas of the face were overheated, meaning not enough time time was allowed before passing over the area again.
He also pointed out the damage cool sculpting did and said it should only be used for stubborn fat not loose akin ie. Around jaw.
So there you have it, user error pointed out by 4 doctors.
How dare a Dr use equipment on someone’s face when he really doesn’t understand or know how to properly use the equipment then have no idea how to fix it and then blame it on someone’s healing ability. Shame on you Dr. Rubenstein!!!!

Hi Jody! Hope you are well. Unfortunately there are incompetent doctors everywhere in all areas of the medical profession. They won’t admit their mistakes though. As you know I am living with disastrous laser damage and the doctor gets off scott free. It seems to be the world we live in. Greetings from Australia chrisxx

Hi Jody, thank you so much for sharing all of this. I have been dealing with severe damage from microneedling for the past 2.5 years. It was interesting to me that the pictures of your damage looked so much like my own..the scars on your chin/cheeks, texture, loss of elasticity, volume loss, etc. I use the word interesting because I didn't have laser but the result was so similar. The person that did this to me went 2.3mm on my face (I asked for my medical record after the damage started appearing..I had no idea she was going that deep at the time) with the Rejuvapen(it has a max depth of 2.5mm). Why she went to this depth I'll never know..I didn't have any issues with my face at all. I went in to try it on my neck which was starting to look crepey and she was having a "special" for face and neck. If only I had a time machine...I used to get compliments on my skin which of course stopped abruptly after this disaster. I just wanted to tell you how great you look! The Dr. that has been correcting this obviously knows what he is doing:) I had a question regarding the fat transfer as I am still deciding on what I can do for improvements. Why did he choose nano fat over regular fat injections? I'm sure there is a reason.. and the result is wonderful! I'm just really trying to avoid another mistake...especially on my face.
Thanks again!
Thanks again!

I had a similar experience with IPL laser, not as extensive as Jodie but it changed the texture of my skin permanently. When I took a deep dive on the web after my experience I was able to talk to a DR who mentioned that this can also happen to people who receive microneedling and it causes the collagen to rebuild in a scar like fashion- I believe it's called glycation, it's linked to people who have Diabetes but you don't necessarily need to be Diabetic to have this reaction. If you're interested you can look this up and find more info about it. But in your case perhaps they just went too deep. Bare faced truth is where I found some interesting info on it. You kinda have to dig to find the info you're looking for. I hope this helps you on your journey to recovery and to make sense of what happened to you. ❤ I understand your pain all too well.

I have sever microneedling damage too (too deep 2.5, too many passes). I have been slowly seeing improvements using psoria gold products that contain curcumin to suppress inflammation and reduce and discourage scarring. There is a skin damage survivors group on face book called skin damage survivors if you would like to join.

I'll have to read up on that. Thanks for your reply!
Have you found anything that has helped with the texture issues?

Hi, I tried psoria gold because many people said that it has helped but each product I tried has caused acne (I use a very tiny amount). My face now doesn't tolerate products on it so I am not saying anything negative against Psoria Gold (it's me not them :) I don't do any type of social media but thank you for the suggestion. I'm sorry for what happened to you..how long has it been since your damage?

My skin is very acne prone. I never broke out before the damage. I have to be on antibiotics now to control the bad breakouts now (minocycline 100mgs). I tried to stop after a few months and started breaking out again. My last of three microneedling treatments was on January 14, 2021 so I’m almost a year out. I’ve been using Psoria Gold since April 1. I have seen some small improvements in the texture and scarring that are finally starting to add up, but they have happened so slowly. It’s so hard to be patient. The sensitized feeling is 98% better. I don’t know if it’s time or using the products, but I do see a little improvement. I wish it could happen faster, but I’m grateful it’s happening at all because at one point I didn’t think it would

Dr Talei is cautious using fat because he said it can be somewhat unpredictable. Nanofat doesn’t create volume but is just supposed to help the health of skin, blood flow etc. I’m sorry this happened to you. It seems like it changes our life forever. I guess what we have to remember is that we are so much more than our face/ looks etc. believe me I know how hard it is. I still struggle but have come to accept that my skin can never be what it was. I hope you find improvement.

Thank you for explaining about the nano fat. You are right about it changing our lives. When something happens to our face it's just out there for everyone to see..no hiding it. I've considered a facelift and fat grafting. Your results are encouraging but I've also read reviews where some people have had bad outcomes so I'm cautious. Out of all the procedures you have had, which did you find most helpful? I won't do laser of any kind or anything that applies heat. I know you aren't recommending anything because everyone is different, I just really appreciate your thoughts/experiences with what has happened to you because it's eerie how similar our damage is (even the side of your face that received more damage was the same..) I haven't posted pictures or a review of what happened. It takes a certain type of courage that I apparently lack :)
Again, I am thankful that you are posting your journey..people should be informed of the possibility of negative outcomes. I had no idea that microneedling /laser could damage skin like that. With laser, I thought you might get a burn of some type until I started reading some of the reviews of what it can actually do if used by a provider that has little knowledge or skill of the device. I'm sure they just go on with their lives never giving it a second thought while we are stuck trying to figure out what to do to improve it.
I think your skin has shown an enormous amount of improvement! You look great, it gives me hope that I'll find something too.

It’s hard to say what caused the most improvement, I think it’s just a combination of things working on different levels.

I was able to post link. Send her a message, she gets back quickly. My review is too short so ...The products are not cheap and it’s not one or two products but a whole morning and evening routine. I started on Sept. 20 and seriously I see changes already. I went for dermaplaning the other day and the aesthetician said, “ Wow your skin is so healthy”. Just wanted to share with my fellow warriors.

Can you please share the exact product names for the people who don’t live in US or can’t talk to your med spa? We have Zo Obagi here too, so I could buy it, but I would love to know what your routine is and how the products are called. Thank you very much!

I can but it doesn’t mean it’s the right protocol for your skin.
Am: Gentle cleanser, exfoliating scrub, complexion pad, firming serum, exfoliation accelerator, growth factor serum, sunscreen
Pm: gentle cleanser, complexion pad, daily power defense, firming serum, radical night repair.
All in the order listed.
