WORTH IT
My back was fully tattooed when I was 17 years old. I was a rebellious teenager and couldn't be told 'DONT' (actually I think that still stands lol). After having children and eventually growing up and starting a career I knew I wasn't that person anymore and wanted the tattoo gone. I started removing it 6 years ago. Here are some of the photos. I didn't take photos of every session. I have no idea how many sessions all up. I mainly had the removal sessions in winter as I love the sun and believe that there should be LONG gaps between lasers as the ink slowly breaks down anyway. Doing the laser sessions too close together was damaging my skin. I had no laser removal in 2014 or this year too date (due to work commitments, its been too hard) But I still have a way to go and will get some more laser done in the next few weeks.

Welcome to the community, I am thrilled that you decided to join us and share your story. Six years is a long time, but not unusual in the world of tattoo removal, kudos to you for having alot of patience—I opted for a cover up after 1 year! You are smart for leaving long breaks between treatments, I agree the more the better. What laser are you being treated with?

When you have a moment, I thought you would relate to the following discussion and I would love for you to get the conversation started: Are You Removing Your Teenage Tattoo?

Best of luck as you continue your journey of removal, I look forward to your updates.

So I soon got tired of getting my back lasered in sections as I knew it was going to take forever! So I started getting my whole back lasered in one sitting each time. (depending on how I was feeling on the day) This is really hard on my body - in more ways than one. Before I have a session I have a cup of tea and eat chocolate. It helps stop my body from going into shock afterwards (shakes etc). I tried Emila numbing cream on a few occasions and it is really good at taking the 'sting' out of the laser but then soon learnt that it does block the laser quite a bit. Best if you can not to use anything. A valium an hour before the session usually does the trick but no driving! I use a NZ product called Tui Bee Balm for aftercare. ( available from health shops) It is a honey based vaseline type product that stays on the skin for sometime and definitely helps with the healing. It is very messy so I have assigned a couple of tee shirts to wear when I have a session. Otherwise my clothes get wrecked! I have also learnt that it is VERY important to drink loads of water and keep up with exercise after laser treatments. This helps with healing and as the ink is breaking down and dispersing into your blood system, it also helps with kidneys! I also have antihistamines ready for the next few days after to combat the insane itching!
