I woke up one day in May-14 and decided I needed to change me as I was both unhappy and overweight.
At 5'2" and small boned I weighed in at 210lbs - borderline extremely obese.
Over the three years I've lost 96lbs, but no amount of exercise, pills or creams could reverse the damage done by being overweight for 35+ years. The surgery has been my reward and the vision I had of what I would look like is now going to be a reality.
My surgeon has done an amazing transformation.
She said I didn't need lipo as I'd done all the work to reduce my body fat - that what I had was just empty skin. That skin.... weighed 788 grams or 1.7lbs. The longest length measured in at 21cm or 8.2 inches. Apparently the average is 15cm or 5.9 inches.
Was the surgery worth the cost -hell yes!
Why? Physical and mental health.
The abdominal repair was substantial and will give me the core strength I need. As a teenager I had a spinal fusion and support of the spine is important as I get older. No more infections.
Now I can look in the mirror and not be distressed by the image confronting me - to me I just saw a saggy body and still lots of fat.
I've been blessed with a smooth recovery and have not needed pain meds since the end of week two.
Now in the start of week 4 and starting to get my walks in. I have the luxury of being able to work from home so won't return to the office until the end of the month - it's a half hour drive and I'm still banned from driving!
I'm looking forward to wearing a bikini when I go on holiday in October and hopefully the worst of the swelling will have gone... the rest will settle over the next 6-12 months.
