Wow, thanks for posting your journey! your results - you look awesome! So worth it? Does it help with fine lines at all? or just the AK's sun damage? I'm thinking about this over IPL or some other lasers (too many horror stories). Also, did you notice any skin color change from face to neck after healing? Congrats! And pls keep us posted. What sunscreen are you using religiously now? I prefer non-chemical/high zinc ones. I wish I hadn't used tanning beds in the 80's as well!! I hated my pale skin so used those beds a lot. Take care. And merry Christmas! Amy

Hi Amy, I've not noticed any skin discoloration, it's still pink and I have some red bumps on my cheeks that the dr said would go away. He said this is better than the lasers because it kills the cancer cells- and that it's like getting a really deep peel- I've used sunscreen for ever , i use different sunscreens that are broad spectrum- the heavy zinc ones clog my skin- I just did my chest as well, it's red but nothing like my face, and I'm assuming because the skin is thicker it's not peeling yet like my face did. I think it does help with the fine lines, it definitely makes your skin look fresher. Good luck with yours-

I have done topical chemo on my arms and chest but balked at doing my face. Now I've read about this option and it looks like it has a faster treatment time. so thanks for sharing.

It definitely healed up quicker on my face than on my chest. Well worth it.

I think you said you did the chemo treatment on your face before this?

Brendan thanks so much for the review. It really looks like it worked wonderfully! I am not familiar with this method and have been doing lasers but I haven't had AK yet. I am 47 and grew up in FL so I feel your pain, hahaha. I was wondering how you feel about the procedure now? Thanks so much!

I'm glad i did it- and it's great for making you look younger as well- my plastic surgeons office has a smaller light for cosmetic procedures. I would definitely do it again if i needed it.

That is good to hear that it was worth it. Makes all the difference then. What do you mean your plastic surgeon has a smaller light? A laser you mean? I meant to ask you if all the redness subsided completely? Sorry if you answered that somewhere. Thanks so much!

Yes all the redness goes away- the light is what activates the chemical- you can YouTube levulan blue light treatment. It's not a laser.

Thanks for the post and the progress updates! Out of curiosity, is there a reason you went with Levulan over Fraxel??? Thx.

I’ve been having this treatments for about 7 yrs now. I was red and blistered for about two weeks when I first started the treatments. The end results were great. My face no longer got oily, and shrunk my pores,, no acne. What I found out, do not take or use any antiobiotics two months before! Same with difulican. Also I have them use alcohol to clean before instead of acitone. Stay in the dark, no light of any kind ! Also keep the air cold. I also take hydroxyzine 25 mg for itching at night. Drink a lot of water. When redness is gone and just peeling, I then use a course salt mixed with olive oil and scrub the dead skin off my face. I think the reason I was so badly burnt in the beginning was a reaction to medication still in my system and being in light. Because after I did all the changes , it now very easy to tolerate

This god damn treatment left me with hyperpigmentation and photo toxic shock to flutesent lighting it’s been 4 1/2 months. I had beautiful skin prior not it’s brown red and awful. Been to the tracing hospital they need to decide if it’s hyperpigmentation, over sensitivity or photo toxic to decide how to proceed maybe laser. If itsphoto toxic not much ca be done. Wish I could sue the makers of the Levelon blue light. My Dermotolgist’s has not reported it. I wonder how many go unreported as to disastrous outcomes. I’m so angry.

I had PDT a few years ago, and it left me with Rosacea - something I've never had, and like you, I had beautiful skin, except for one red spot, which has now come back in the form of a scabbed brown spot. It's probably melanoma now. Sigh. So I can say that PDT does not #!!* work!!! In your case, give your skin time to heal. It took mine almost a year to get over the Rosacea, itchiness and sensitivity to fluorescent light, but I also helped it with pure aloe vera, and I changed my diet because I've read that Rosacea and hyperpigmentation stem from the gut. Good luck.

Thank you for posting. Doctor suggested this procedure for me but I had no idea how uncomfortable it appears to be. Happy to hear you are on the mend.

@maggyJRT I won't lie and say it was nothing, depending on the amount of sun damage you have, I have a ton of it- this burned liked fire when I was under the light, bearable with the cold air blowing on me, I think the second and third days were probably the worst, you can't be in any sunlight for 48 hrs, curtains closed- it does itch and burn the 1st and second days , a lot- I think it was the 4 th day I used my clarisonic to help get the shedding skin off, it helped a lot, and kept tons of aquaphor on my face until the shedding was done - I'm going back the 23rd to have my chest done, I'll add it to this review as well-

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with others like me that are just starting to look into this treatment as recommended by my Dr.

You're welcome - it really does an amazing job for the skin. It's very uncomfortable for the first couple of days on the face, the chest was way worse- I did use my clarisonic on the 4th day I think, on my face which really helped get the crusty skin off.
