I'm a 25 year-old female who had a series of 4 Laser Genesis treatments in 2013. The set of Laser Genesis treatments left my skin with an orange peel texture, fine lines around the mouth, wrinkles under my eyes, and uneven skin texture. These "side effects" started to manifest throughout the treatments. I looked like I aged 10 years in less than 10 months.

Laser Genesis does promote collagen growth and in doing so, parts of my face have a higher layer of skin. This has affected my side profile, which used to be a slimming straight line but now has higher contouring near my cheeks and lips. I have not gained any weight, yet this new collagen makes my face look rounder and uneven, from both the front and side profile.

I tried Laser Genesis because I had a bunch of acne scars on my cheeks and was convinced by the spa that it would help the scars. In reality, the laser did help the skin around the scars, which only made the scars appear deeper. Furthermore, it expedited the formation of wrinkles on my forehead and lips. Since the laser can't be used too close to the eyes, I developed a sullen look.

I try to live a stress-free life. I have not done anything else abrasive to my skin and I moisturize every day. Prior to Laser Genesis, my pores were barely visible, I didn't have a single wrinkle on my face, my eyes had a plump texture with no lines, and my face shape was slimming. I used to get compliments on my eyes and profile. Never again after 2013.

I don't blame the spa for what happened. The aesthetician truly thought this treatment would be best for my skin and did the first 2 treatments for free. I was naive in not doing more research about lasers and was in a rush for results. Unfortunately, lasers are not for all skin types, especially if you have sensitive skin that scars and/or hyperpigments easily.

So now that it's been 3 years, I just wanted to share my experience and some tips:
(1) The best and safest way to heal your acne scars is by using natural products.
(2) Find a daily moisturizer and gentle cleanser that doesn't irritate the skin.
(3) Use a natural toner, such as witch hazel, to remove makeup and shrink pores.
(4) Keep some manuka honey and lemon juice ready for a good weekly mask.
(5) Test out different oils with scar-healing properties, such as rosehip and jojoba.
(6) Stay away from abrasive exfoliating and retinol products, unless prescribed.
(7) Track progress, especially with new products, by taking weekly pictures of your skin.
(7) Remember that there are no shortcuts. It will take time, possibly years, to see results.
