I had (what looked like) minor crowding and...
I had (what looked like) minor crowding and rotations so I was not completely happy with the way my teeth looked. I had a composite veneer placed on the tooth that looked worst but less than one year later the veneer became so discolored that I realised I should have gone with braces to correct my teeth in the first place. I went to an orthodontist and she recomended Invisalign Lite right away. She said that the 14 trays wpuld be more than enough and I could have a small refinement after. I was honestly afraid of braces because I'm a tooth grinder and I figured sleeping without anything would be too dangerous so I accepted. ClinCheck was ordered and I paid for it separately. Anyway, when they showed it to me I realised the teeth where NOWHERE near completely corrected after 14 trays. Refinement for Lite is supposed to be 7 trays only so still nowhere near enough. I wanted to say no, let's go with Inv. Full or traditional braces but they informed me the trays where already ordered (why didn't they wait until me seeing and approving it??!). So I had to go with it. I had painful IPR done in 15 places and a lot of attachments placed. My enamel and tooth was kind of messed after, composite was everywhere after placement and my dentist drilled the hell out of my teeth so as a result I got some drilling lines and other changes I disliked.
Wearing Invisalign itself isn't painful, only the first days of a new tray. But it is very hard. I couldn't eat, brush, floss and clean aligners in 2 hours. So wearing them 22 hours a day was impossible for me, and I don't eat out usually. So basically you can't eat anything you want. No popcorn if you go to the movies, no eating out, no eating slowly, can't chew gum...
With Invisalign you get more cavities so brushing and flossing carefully is necessary. The aligners get a lot of plaque and smell so cleaning them can take you more than 15 minutes. That makes wearing them enough time more difficult. I eventually had the result I was supposed to but I guess my teeth move easily, but I didn't wear them 22 hours a day, not even 20 hours I'd say.
Also, Invisalign is not invisible of course, specially with attachments, it's quite obvious and had some people freaked out about that weird thing in my mouth. I don't care about what they say but they can't sell this saying it isn't noticeable because it is.
I never had any accident with lost or broken trays but if that happens you go back one tray if the next doesn't fix and they order the tray you lost again so you can lose a month or so. Sucks.
I lost a month because I decided to have surgery (in another part of my body) and after the surgery I was in pain for a long and couldn't bring myself up to go get the IPR I needed for my next tray, so I stopped treatment for a while.
Finished my 14 tray, I still had crocked teeth and my bite was so off I couldn't talk properly lol
I got the refinements, for this they removed all the attachments and polished, more enamel damage. Then when the trays arrived dentist placed attachments in the same spots plus new ones...I was so pisseddddd..... same attachments and I have to get them twice and get twice the damage. This time I'd say I even have a different shade, darker and dull and more translucent in some teeth... I still have them on as I haven't finished treatment but I guess just more messed enamel.
Invisalign sent 14 trays for the refinement, with Lite they say no more than 7 but I got 14 again...
New clincheck and still not fully corrected. Obviously I have no more refinements and I'll stay with whatever result I get because it's not that bad but still I paid a lot of money and I got enamel damage that makes me want veneers, I need gum reshaping laser and overall Invisalign isn't enough for me.
Worst part is being unable to keep doing it until it is corrected, you get a number of trays and if with those trays it isn't enough, new ones with new attachments have to be ordered and is worst for you.
I wish I'd got braces even at risk of night grinding... My enamel and shape is affected anyway.
Think twice before getting this treatment!! Something that needs to be constantly on, applying pressure shouldn't be taken under any circumstances, you can mess big time if you lose it or something makes you unable to put them on (such as nausea).
I hope this helps anyone and don't believe what any dentist says... Do lots of research and visit others first...
