Worked for Me Once but BE CAREFUL - New York

About 7 years ago I dissolved tear trough filler under both eyes with hyaluronidase. It worked within an hour and did not seem to cause any damage to my natural tissue, which, at the time, I didn't even know was a possibility, I just kept hearing how safe it was.
I've since had filler in other areas with no problems…until I had 1 syringe of juvederm injected into my lips 3 wks ago that seemed to turn me into bozo the clown. *face-palm* I could smack myself for doing this, I always said I would NEVER be the one with those fake looking bird lips…well guess what?! I might as well throw on some feathers to match this beak.
I thought I could easily reverse it just like my tear troughs, until I started reading experiences of permanent damage despite the majority of doctors claiming it to be completely safe.
I called 2 doctors who are considered to be very experienced injectors and asked their opinion. One said it was totally safe and another refuses to inject it the lips because it can cause permanent damage, especially in the lips even if the injector is experienced. She warned me that many doctors are willing to use it in the lips but strongly advised me to wait it out because if I did end up with permanent damage, I could have divots that are very difficult to correct with filler.
This is the first time I've heard a doctor validate all the claims I've read about patients who insist that hyaluronidase caused permanent tissue damage. She is considered one of the "super doctors" and is a very sought after top plastic surgeon so I trust that she has some experience in this area.
I've since read posts where people have said that their doctors have also advised against using this product because of the risk. So, perhaps doctors may be finding out that it isn't as safe as once thought.
In light of all of this, I've decided to deal with these ridiculous lips and wait for it to dissolve. I bought a handheld massager and use it nightly to try to expedite the process.
The point is, there are people who've had great experiences with this product and others who've suffered terrible damage and we should be informed of both so we can decide for ourselves whether or not to take the risk.

Hi peachiful. I had the duck lip going too so living with it wasn't an option. I was so depressed! I was afraid but decided to go for the hyaluronidase. My doc injected it in small amounts so I had to go back 2x. Oh they were also crooked!!! It worked and no damage that I'm aware of .. There's just a small amount of restylane left in them , which is what i had asked for in the first place! Hope that helps.
Thank you for sharing your story! Yes, it does help to hear good experiences. It's difficult to gage how common the risks are when the doctors keep saying it's safe and people on here keep saying it's not but it makes sense that those with negative experiences are more vocal about it. It's very encouraging to know it worked for you!
Wow.. honesty! I'm glad she stopped you. Who is the doctor who said not to do the hyaluronidase? She sounds honest and I may want o go to her. Good luck with everything!
I'll have to go back to my emails and find out which doctor it was. I've since been in contact with several other doctors. I was not treated by her, I only called to inquire about hyaluronidase and spoke with her co-worker who relayed the info to me so I'm grateful for her honesty but I'm unsure if she refuses to use this product in the lips because she is very cautious or because she's had a lot of patients come to her with problems.
The other doctors I've contacted all seem to have exceptional credentials as well yet all say something different about this product.
This is all very confusing and I wish there were more studies conducted on it.

will you post pictures? i have a lump under my top lip and it bugs me. it's been about 6 weeks now it has not gone down. Im not sure what can be done.
I too would like to know the Drs. Name that claims it can do tissue damage. I'm unable to find that info. I used it twice after a liquid face lift that left me looking strange. I still have some filler that was not dissolved. I was hoping it would on its own but it's been over a year. I'm looking to have it done again and your post scared me! Please post the drs. Info at your earliest convenience. Thank you.
Did you get it done? 2.5 years and still gray under my eye after Restylane.. Thinking it's filler and want it gone,

I'm so sorry to hear you're not happy with your results, but glad your doctor and your research steered you in a direction that was right for you!
Is this the first time you've had filler in your lips? How long does Juvederm generally last for you?
Wish you the best and keep us posted on how you're doing!!
Yes, this is the first time I've had it in my lips. I've had Juvederm in other areas and I get it retouched about every 8 months and I've loved the results.
The problem is the filler changed the entire shape of my lips and that changed the entire look of my face, in a very unflattering cartoonish kind of way. This is awful since I prefer a very natural look. I've heard it doesn't last as long in the lips which I'm really hoping is true!!
