WORTH IT
Hi everyone so I am one day post-op from my FFS. Just wanted to get started on my review!
So I had my pre-surgical testing 1 week before the surgery on June 19,2017. All of my labs came back fine. I arrived at the hospital at 9:30 AM on June 26, 2017. I was taken up to the pre-op room at about 10:15 AM. I met with the anesthesiologist and Dr. Ting around 11:00 AM. I was taken to the operating room at about 11:45 AM.
I woke up at about 6:00 PM. The pain was just like an awful migraine. They gave me percocet though and it started to wear off by 7. So my procedure was outpatient, so I went home same day. They do recovery in two phases. Phase 1 is where they wake you up from the anesthesia until you are alert and fully awake. Phase 2 they move you to a waiting room where you sit and watch tv, have crackers and juice, and wait to be released. They moved me to Phase 2 at about 6:45 PM. When I first stood up and went to the bathroom, I got really hot and dizzy. They gave me one full IV bag of fluid and I felt so much better. From that point on I was fine. I left the hospital at 8:00 PM and picked up my medication. They have me on percocet every 4 hours (I've only needed it every 6 hours) and a 7-day round of antibiotics. Once home I just rested, ate, and watched movies with my friend.
About my procedures. So again I am a transwoman. I am 26 years old. I have been on hormones since June 2010. So 7 years now. For my FFS I really wanted to go as less invasive as possible. I really do like my face for the most part. The biggest issue for me was my forehead and brow ridge. I felt like I just had a lot of excess bone and it made my face more masculine. Dr. Ting agreed and he felt like I did not need much surgical intervention. Specifically he wanted to do three things:
Number 1: Lower my hairline. He placed the incision in front of my hair line, so I will have a scar but he says it will heal well. I have also purchased a [RS bleep] ton of scar scream lol. He lowered my hairline and got rid of the widows peaks, giving me a softer/rounder/more feminine hairline, while reducing the size of my forehead.
Number 2: So my brow ridge and extending a bit up to my forehead there was a lot of protruding bone. So he went and shaved that bone down, making my brow ridge smoother and flatter.
Number 3: He did something he kept calling "bony work" around my eye sockets/orbits. He removed bone from there to open my eyes up more and match the eye socket/orbit with the brow ridge. I did sort of have protruding bone just right above my eyelid. He said this is also super important in feminizing my face because it makes my eyes more open and round and the whole forehead more recessed.
I think I will be super happy with the results. Right now as you can see my whole forehead area is bandaged so I can't see anything. I can tell however, even through the swelling, that the big lump that was between my eyebrows is gone. I can't tell you all how dysphoric it use to make me feel. You can kind of see it in my before pics. It was just like a big lump of bone right in the center of my forehead. It always made me fell like a neanderthal lol. I am super swollen. My left eye is definitely super swollen and black. Right now I am not icing or anything. I am eating a lot of protein and vitamin C. Tomorrow I am going to start taking arnica montana and bromelain. They are supposed to help a lot with bruising and swelling. Plus they are like homeopathic, so lessened side effects on the rest of my body.
That's it for now ladies. Tomorrow, 2 days post-op, I go see Dr. Ting. He is going to remove the bandage and take out the drain, I believe. I will post another update 1-week post-op!

Hi Jessyp411,

Will your health insurance company cover the cost of your FFS?

I too want Dr. Ting to perform my FFS, but my health insurance company refused to cover the surgery.

Hey Jessy! Sorry that I am just now seeing this. First, I love Dr. Ting. Every surgery is unpredictable in a sense. I do not think he had done much FFS when I came around but I have no way of knowing that for sure. During my consult, he showed me two cases he had done in the past and they looked fine. He had a very conservative approach when it came to me and I really appreciated that. However, I will be having a revision and full FFS on 11/21/2018, which is super common! I consulted with 5 different doctors for this revision so I can definitely make some recommendations privately!

Hi Everyone! I have so many comments and emails. I apologize for not updating this more frequently. Any who, I am actually having a second FFS on 11/21/2018. Dr. Ting did an amazing job. He literally changed my life. I am going with a different doctor for various reasons. I can talk about that more later. To address some of the more common questions I have received:

Was it worth it? Yes, absolutely.

How did the scar heal? The scar healed okay-ish. 75% of the scar is fine, but there is a portion on my right/your left if you're looking at me, where the scar healed a lot wider and the hair did not really grow through it on that side. I will post a pic soon to give yo all a better idea.

Why did you remove your pics? I was having issues with people taking my pics lol and I realized I was a bit naive just putting identifiable pics out there. I was just trying to be transparent and help out the next girl but my privacy comes first.
