27 Yr Old Female Always Wanted Fuller Higher Cheeks. SO Happy I Went Through with It! - New York, NY
ORIGINAL POST
Since I was 22 yrs old I'd been getting Radiesse...
WORTH IT$5,500
Since I was 22 yrs old I'd been getting Radiesse filler in my cheeks. I loved the look, but was ready for something permanent. After a few consultations with different doctors, I was SO happy to come to realself.com and read about Dr. Oleh Slupchynskyj in NYC! After several favorable cheek augmentation reviews, I booked my consult. I was pleasantly surprised that there was no consult fee, as the previous doctors I'd seen all required one. During the consult I expressed my interest in malar implants and Dr. S listed to my concerns and answered all my questions very open and honestly. I knew he was the Dr. for me! I booked my procedure a week later, and couldn't wait!
Dr. S has a very helpful staff who also go out of their way to answer all your questions and concerns. I was even given the Dr's personal cell number if I had any further questions.
On the day of my surgery I was taken early, and met with the very friendly anesthesiologist beforehand. She also was very kind, and answered all of my questions. I felt safe and secure in the hands of Dr. S and his whole medical team that day.
The procedure went perfectly, I woke up feeling a bit groggy, but had barely any pain, and didn't feel sick, which was one of my main concerns with anesthesia. Everything went smoothly.
I was VERY swollen and a bit sore for the first 5 days. I would compare it to having your wisdom teeth removed. Nothing I couldn't handle though. I was prescribed pain meds, but only needed them the first few days, and then switched to extra strength tylenol.
By day 6 I could already tell I was going to LOVE my new high cheeks! He gave me the size that I asked for (XL) and placed them exactly where I wanted them. The swelling in my lower face was probably the worst part, but right now I am at day 12, and it has completely gone down and is back to normal. I still have a slight bruise and some yellowing of the skin under my right eye, but nothing that can't be covered with makeup.
I feel badly that so many people have had such negative experiences with cheek implants on this website. It really did scare me at first, but I am SO glad I went through with it.
More updates soon!

Before Pic
Since a few people asked for a before picture, here you go! It was hard trying to find any photos pre-fillers to compare, but I managed to dig this one up from about 7 years ago.

Well you were cute and you still are. No need for surgery, believe me.
October 21, 2015
Thank you. People's reasoning/need for surgery is subjective though.
October 21, 2015
Yes subjective until a certain point. I see people who really lack malar bone (malar hypoplasia) and people like you who were lucky to have a perfectely balanced face but are not happy with what they have. On my personal opinion these second people who add when not needed risk a fake/barbie result. But if they are happy with it, it is ok! I think to be rather objective.
October 21, 2015
Well I can see how you might feel that way. For me, I chose to have this done because it's something I have always wanted, regardless of what kind of balance I had in my face beforehand. Also, I enjoy a bit of the fake look, so I suppose it worked out in my favor!

If you want you can give an opinion on my surgery too. I would really like a female opinion about how i look. Am i more attractive than before?

Your after pics definitely show a correction. I think u looked nice before and after even better because u corrected the hollows!Overall u look great.

How long after your last radiesse injection was it ok to have the surgery?
October 21, 2015
You look like a model. I thought that radiesse was permanent, how long did it last when you got it?
October 21, 2015
You're too kind! It's not permanent, but it does last longer than most fillers. I guess they say some people see results for up to a year, but I usually re did them every 9 months.

Do you have any other after pics? The lighting makes it hard to see anything

Hi, You look fantastic! Do you know by chance what kind of implant you received - Goretex, Silicon, or Medapor ? Also was it just a malar implant, or was it a combination malar/submalar?
October 21, 2015
Very striking ty for the new pics?

October 22, 2015
Wow what a great word..striking.. That's what they are. This Isnt everyone's ideal because of size but you pull it off and it amazes me. Good for you :-)
October 22, 2015
Thank you so much! I like that word too :) I'm just happy that they came out looking exactly how I wanted them too!

Hi, You looking great both before and after.
I just wondering why do you wanted get high cheek bone?
I have high cheek bone and it make my face bigger, so I was searching to remove cheek bone, then I just find your review.

Thanks! It's just something I've always liked & felt I was lacking naturally. I have a really small and thin face, so getting the implants didn't make my face full in a round way, it just gave me more definition, and better angles. I'm sure you have beautiful cheeks!

My sibling has fillers done. But I've seen over the internet ,images of facial cancers from fillers(they say). Also some doctors refuse to do fillers as they don't think it's safe. So I still wonder if fillers can contribute, risk facial skin cancers?
October 25, 2015
I really couldn't tell you as I'm not a doctor. My own personal experience with fillers has been great though! I've never had any issues or side effects.
November 7, 2015
What are you talking about? That is preposterous and uninformed. Fillers do not cause facial cancer and the approved fillers are considered safe.

Do you have any side effects etc?
Is it like dermal fillers or does it come with more risks than fillers?
The only side effect I've had is a slight numbness in my upper lip on the left side, but I'm told this happens and can take a while to come back completely.
Well, since it's surgery and anesthesia is involved, there is a bit more risk than fillers. Plus, you have more down time since you're swollen and sometimes a little bruised.
Were you contemplating getting anything else done?
Do you have any pics of when the swelling was at its worse?
Also, how much was it $5,500 for everything ( fees, anesthesia, surgery) ?
How quick were they to resonde to your emails?
Were you able to ask questions easily after your consult?
Sorry for all the questions but I am really considering getting it done with him.
Thanks!
I'll post some more photos today from the healing process.
It was $5,500 for everything except for the prescriptions, but my insurance covered them for the most part.
I was up and watching TV & using my computer the night of the surgery, so it really isn't a terrible recovery process.
I was able to ask anything at anytime, everyone was very helpful at his office. I couldn't recommend Dr. S more if you're thinking of having this procedure done. He's the best! :)
Who were you in contact with mostly?
Were you able to contact Dr. S directly with any questions before the surgery?
Did you have it done in NY or in NJ?
Thanks again for all your help! I can't tell you how much I appreciate it.
I had access to Dr. S though email, and was given his cell number before I went in for surgery so that I could reach him personally if I had any issues afterwards.
I had my surgery in Manhattan.
Happy to help, and I hope it works out for you!
You look great! Love your look. Thanks so much for sharing on RealSelf.
