6 weeks post - feeling great!

Feeling so much more normal! 5 weeks was the turning point for me. I was at a conference last week and realized "I haven't noticed my boobs all day" Except if I reached really far for something or jumped up and down I DID NOT NOTICE my boobs! I can wear a seat belt again and bend over at waist and barely feel anything. The low level ache / sensitivity / swelling that's been there constantly for the last month is pretty much gone. (I say "for the last month" because the two weeks before that was more than just low level achiness.) At night, I'll sometimes feel my underboob incisions or right nipple soreness but mostly am feeling great. I think if I try high impact exercise I'll go back to "feeling" them again but I'm still keeping things low key. Went to Victoria Secrets last week and fit in 36D. Yeah! Exactly what I was hoping for. I haven't been a D since college. People think I look smaller than that but that's just because my stomach still sticks out and I'm wearing flowy tops, so you can't see the D size. I've attached a pic of my first Victoria's Secret bra in 10 years. Like most VS bras, this makes me look bigger than I am :-)

Thanks for the great information! They look great. I have a similar body to you and am considering a BR. How are you feeling about the boob/belly proportions. I am fearful of making my belly more prominent. How are you feeling in clothes?

I'm still wearing flowy tops that I wore before the BR to hide the stomach, but I look better than before because the boobs are smaller. I was hoping to be able to wear new styles but that's not in the cards until I start exercising and get the belly tightened up some. (Looking into private Pilates lessons.). But I do look better in the styles I had been wearing. It's taken some time to get used to the new body type though. Not accustomed to worrying about the flabby belly since it was hidden for so long. But overall I am feeling so much better (no shoulder or neck pain) that a little body image adjustment is well worth it!

My stomach sticks out way farther than my boobs now too. I could wear smaller tops if it weren't for that. Gotta work on my gut and butt and I'll be doing good. Easier said than done.

4 weeks post-op

meb1916
Hello! It's been a month and I'm feeling pretty good. At my 4 week post-op my PS cleared me to "return to all regular activities," including running. But since running hasn't been a regular activity for me in many years, I'll hold off on that one :-). The only thing I can't do, she says, is wear an underwire bra. My next appt isn't for another 3 months. (My PS does 1 week post, 2 week post, 4 week post and 4 month post check-ins.)

I have a much better range of motion and am definitely not as careful with the boobs as I was the first 3 weeks. (My PS said maybe the reason I'm healing up well is because I was so cautious. I think her excellent skills are to thank!) So though I'm feeling more normal, I'm definitely not 100%. I'd say 80% to normal. For instance, when I fly next week, I'm definitely checking my bags - still not ready to lift a suitcase above my head. And even if I was a runner, I probably wouldn't start yet - still "feeling" the boobs - tender and tight. They are very sensitive, particularly the right, so if my jacket brushes them it doesn't hurt at all but I definitely feel it. It's distracting. The sunburned feeling hasn't returned since week 3, but I'm still getting swollen on and off (particularly at night) and I definitely feel pulls/aches on my incisions if I reach for something, etc. So, all in all, things are getting better, but not back to speed yet.

I've attached some updated photos. I think the bulgy/puckered incision on my right boob is getting better. Yay! PS promises this will resolve in time. I've noticed that parts of my breasts are softening up a bit, which means I'm starting to get the "boxy" look - I think this happens when the sides of your boobs soften but the vertical incision is still tight, so your boob boxes around that. I'm sure that resolves in time too! Until next time, happy healing to all of you.
