35yrs Old, Dreaming of Being a D Cup! New York, NY

I finally decided to start my breast reduction...
I finally decided to start my breast reduction journey after dealing with many, many years of back and neck pain, headaches and numbness in my hand and arm. I am currently a size 44H and have been that size for about 10 years. I started developing breasts and wearing training bras at the age of 8. By the time i finished elementary school i was a size 36C. In junior high i went up to a 38D and by high school was a 38DDD. By the time i was 19 I made it to a 40H. So as you can see, I've had very large breasts most of my life. I'm also on a weight loss journey and I wanted to lose some weight before having the surgery but i find it difficult to workout efficiently, especially doing cardio, because I always have to hold down my breast even when wearing 2 bras.... I finally made an appointment with a plastic surgeon named Dr. Scot Bradley Glasberg who was highly recommended by a friend of mine who recently had a breast reduction by him. My appointment is next week 2/10 and I'm so excited! Tomorrow I have an appointment with my primary doctor to get a referral. I'm so hoping that everything goes smoothly with my insurance approval. If anyone has any tips for me please feel free to comment. I would greatly appreciate it!!

consultation
Today i had my consultation with Dr. Glasberg and it went pretty good. He and his staff were very nice and informative. I had to do since paper work when I first arrived and then I waited to be seen by the doctor. When they called for me they told me to remove my top and bra and put on a gown. The doctor then came in and asked my some questions regarding my height, weight, pains, medical history and what size i want to go down to. He then explained to me the process of getting a breast reduction as well as the risks of losing sensation and being able to breastfeed after the surgery. He said i needed to have a mammogram and try to lose some weight before the surgery. I also have to get a referral letter from my pcp to give to the insurance company. My surgery is scheduled for June 1, 2015, which is about 3 and a half months away. I wish it was sooner but that does give me more time to lose as much weight as i can before the surgery. I'm so excited!!! I can't wait fur surgery day and to say goodbye to these weights on my chest!

So happy to hear all went well! You'll be amazed how fast 3+ months will go. Last October I made my appointment for Jan 2015 and thought it would never come. Now I'm 5 weeks PO and feeling great. I'm still expecting more improvement & changes to my breasts, but I couldn't be happier!!! I agree with your dr's reco to try to lose some weight if you need to. First off, it makes surgery safer. Second, you'll heal faster and finally, some of that breast tissue is fat (my bra size always went up & down when I gained or lost weight). If you lose some of the breast fat, it will likely making reducing them to the best size & shape easier. Good luck going forward and think of all the good things that await you on June 1st!

Yay!! My doc told me the same thing about losing weight. So far I've lost 9.5 pounds, which is like a chicken so I've beentelling people I've lost a chicken! LOL! My surgery is scheduled for August 11th but I've been put on the cancelation list if someone comes up sooner. I'm anxious to get it put behind me. 38H hoping for a D!

Have more than one consultation. Even if you like your first PS you definitely want to see what other doctors recommend. Did the PS tell you the type of reduction he would be doing. There is more than one way to skin a cat lol. Normally the talk about loss of sensation is usually attached to a FNG, but it can happen with any reduction. Also what kind of insurance do you have? You can check the online guidelines of your plan to see what they require. I have BCBS Michigan and my plan does not do preauthorizations or pre approvals... they rely on the PS to follow their guidelines. Also they did not require me to do any physical therapy etc.... I am scheduled for May 21st. Reducing from a 38MM to...... lol Good luck!

One more month!!!
So I've sent in all my paper work and now I'm just waiting to see if I'll be approved. My doctor says it shouldn't be a problem with my insurance so we'll just have to see. I'm so excited and a bit nervous....
