I finally decided to start my breast reduction...

I finally decided to start my breast reduction journey after dealing with many, many years of back and neck pain, headaches and numbness in my hand and arm. I am currently a size 44H and have been that size for about 10 years. I started developing breasts and wearing training bras at the age of 8. By the time i finished elementary school i was a size 36C. In junior high i went up to a 38D and by high school was a 38DDD. By the time i was 19 I made it to a 40H. So as you can see, I've had very large breasts most of my life. I'm also on a weight loss journey and I wanted to lose some weight before having the surgery but i find it difficult to workout efficiently, especially doing cardio, because I always have to hold down my breast even when wearing 2 bras.... I finally made an appointment with a plastic surgeon named Dr. Scot Bradley Glasberg who was highly recommended by a friend of mine who recently had a breast reduction by him. My appointment is next week 2/10 and I'm so excited! Tomorrow I have an appointment with my primary doctor to get a referral. I'm so hoping that everything goes smoothly with my insurance approval. If anyone has any tips for me please feel free to comment. I would greatly appreciate it!!

I'm glad you now have relief now! I've been told about the back exercises to strengthen your back and you're right it does not help!!! Did you have insurance pay for yours and did they give you a hard time with approval? I guess I'm also concerned because I'm plus sized and i don't want them to use that against me to not approve the surgery. ..

my insurance did pay for mines, the first time they turn me down that was May 2014, I was told I needed back therapy at least 10 sessions and I also had topical cream that I had to put underneath my breast and I had the intentions on my shoulders I was approve September I had it done December 17th 2014.I am plus size they won't hold it against you they took off five pounds total for my breast .you will enjoy being pain-free your back will feel wonderful hopefully another 2 weeks I can start exercising to lose some weight and that will also help.too bad I couldn't do it before then but, what a difference :-)

Good luck!!! I feel like I'm reading my own story! I'm a 40H, 35yrs old and overweight...and, like you, have difficulty working out...and I have a very strong back! Lol. I hope all goes well with your insurance, it's hit or miss. I didn't have to go through nearly what others do, but I also work at a University that has their own hospital, so having it done there is completely free through insurance. This place is a godsend and a wealth of info. I had a pre-op appt yesterday and procedure date is next Wed. Good luck! (Write ALL your questions down and take them to the appt.)

First off a friend of mine used Dr. Scot Glasberg for her BR 3 years ago and was very pleased with her outcome. She even gave me all the documentation Dr. Glasberg's office submitted to get her insurance authorization for the surgery, since at that point I had previously been denied coverage. I ended up using another doctor in NYC (I'm now 4 weeks post-op) who also accepted most insurance plans. I did provide a letter from my physical therapist who had been treating me for 3 months, for neck and shoulder pain, a letter from a chiropractor (biggest waste of time & money) and a letter from my primary care physician citing years of complaints of chronic neck/back/shoulder pain treated with PT to no avail and with muscle relaxers which never helped. He also gave examples of how my large breasts interfered with daily living from the inability to exercise, sleep comfortably and even comprising my driving when suffering from neck pain. The more support you can give your insurance, the more likely they'll approve. Good luck to you and keeping fingers crossed you get your authorization... BR surgery is life changing!

I'm scheduled for June 1st. I sent in all my paperwork and am still waiting on my approval but my doctor's office said my insurance doesn't usually give problems with approving BR so we'll see.....

I am scheduled for June 15th same here their saying it would take at least 2 or 3 weeks but I can speed up the promises by inquiring on the status. Well I have contacted by PS financial coordinator who said to call her and she will tell me what to ask and who to ask for but as of Friday honey I 'AINT' got her on the phone. Well if it was sent off like she said than this Monday will be on full week the insurance would have it. I am covered that I know but if I qualify is what I don't know and if they saw the pictures they will stamp 'QUALIFIED"... lol

Today i had my consultation with Dr. Glasberg and it went pretty good. He and his staff were very nice and informative. I had to do since paper work when I first arrived and then I waited to be seen by the doctor. When they called for me they told me to remove my top and bra and put on a gown. The doctor then came in and asked my some questions regarding my height, weight, pains, medical history and what size i want to go down to. He then explained to me the process of getting a breast reduction as well as the risks of losing sensation and being able to breastfeed after the surgery. He said i needed to have a mammogram and try to lose some weight before the surgery. I also have to get a referral letter from my pcp to give to the insurance company. My surgery is scheduled for June 1, 2015, which is about 3 and a half months away. I wish it was sooner but that does give me more time to lose as much weight as i can before the surgery. I'm so excited!!! I can't wait fur surgery day and to say goodbye to these weights on my chest!

So happy to hear all went well! You'll be amazed how fast 3+ months will go. Last October I made my appointment for Jan 2015 and thought it would never come. Now I'm 5 weeks PO and feeling great. I'm still expecting more improvement & changes to my breasts, but I couldn't be happier!!! I agree with your dr's reco to try to lose some weight if you need to. First off, it makes surgery safer. Second, you'll heal faster and finally, some of that breast tissue is fat (my bra size always went up & down when I gained or lost weight). If you lose some of the breast fat, it will likely making reducing them to the best size & shape easier. Good luck going forward and think of all the good things that await you on June 1st!

Yay!! My doc told me the same thing about losing weight. So far I've lost 9.5 pounds, which is like a chicken so I've beentelling people I've lost a chicken! LOL! My surgery is scheduled for August 11th but I've been put on the cancelation list if someone comes up sooner. I'm anxious to get it put behind me. 38H hoping for a D!

Have more than one consultation. Even if you like your first PS you definitely want to see what other doctors recommend. Did the PS tell you the type of reduction he would be doing. There is more than one way to skin a cat lol. Normally the talk about loss of sensation is usually attached to a FNG, but it can happen with any reduction. Also what kind of insurance do you have? You can check the online guidelines of your plan to see what they require. I have BCBS Michigan and my plan does not do preauthorizations or pre approvals... they rely on the PS to follow their guidelines. Also they did not require me to do any physical therapy etc.... I am scheduled for May 21st. Reducing from a 38MM to...... lol Good luck!

So I've sent in all my paper work and now I'm just waiting to see if I'll be approved. My doctor says it shouldn't be a problem with my insurance so we'll just have to see. I'm so excited and a bit nervous....
