WORTH IT
I want to thank Dr. Paul and his staff for helping me so much with my hair loss. I am writing because I could not be happier with my hair.
Here is my story: I noticed a significant change in my hair after having a baby, and I tried rogaine for months without significant improvement. I stopped rogaine and noticed my hair was still shedding. My part widened. I was very concerned. I met with Dr. Paul as I was interested to see if PRP could help my shedding. Dr. Paul explained that PRP very well may help me, but we would not know for certain without trying it. I did two sessions of PRP spaced 2 months apart then started to see a result with real improvement after about 3-4 months. There was a reduction in shedding, my part looks better (see the picture), and I am delighted. I did a third session and now am on a maintenance regimen doing PRP every 4-6 months.

This is pretty amazing! I had one treatment done thus far with another doctor (Dr. Rappaport in NJ) about 3-4 weeks ago and have noticed slightly less shedding but if anything, my frontal hairline seems to be disappearing! I'm hoping this may be a temporary thing preparing for thicker hairs to grow in. Did you only first notice improvement after that second treatment, or were you beginning to see some before that? My second will be in early October. My hair is similar to yours and I would be ecstatic to get those results! Your hair loss looks reversed!

Hi there, I'm considering PRP as well for thinning frontal hairline and temple region :/ 28/F here. Just curious what your results were?

I've now had 4 treatments in about 4 months' time. Next will be longer and longer time lapses between treatments. So my 5th will be in about 2.5 months. There's definitely a difference though I would not say it's significant at this point.

Hmm, I'm scared to drop this kind of money if it's really minimal improvement. Your hair looks lovely in your photo! Where were you experiencing loss? And have you seen any growth in temple region.. that's my biggest concern, and where i naturally split my hair, the scalp line is pushing farther back into my head.. :/

Thank you, but it's a good photo! haha I have had androgenetic alopecia (genetic hair loss/female-pattern baldness) since I was a teenager. The loss is fairly diffuse, but more on the top and crown. I have had I think a very small amount of regrowth in the front but I am not sure if there's a specific area that reacts better or worse to PRP. Have you used Rogaine or, assuming you're a female, any of the off-label meds like Spironolactone and Diane 35 birth control? They both did wonders for me and if you haven't, you should.

Yup, female. Derm recommended both rogaine and spiro... but was hesitant since it's a life long commitment, you can't use while pregnant, and you lose all progress when you stop use :/ I also read horror stories online, which scared me off. I'm most scared of the side effects some report: dark circles under their eyes, and that their skin seemed to rapidly age. Although that seems to be in rare, extreme cases.
How long have you been using rogaine for? Did you experience a massive shed or any other side effects? When I went in to the doctor they told me I have androgenic alopecia as well.
Ps thanks for the speedy replies!! I find so few who actually respond to messages on these boards. Truly helpful to get insight from others!

No problem, always happy to help. I have read those reports too. Every single medication you can possibly think of, from tylenol to chemotherapy, will have horror stories online, so please remember that. Rogaine does cause a bit of fine facial hair growth for some women (mostly on the forehead), but it's very easy to remove and very worth dealing with. Actually Spirionolactone helped clear up my skin, and when I started the Diane 35 birth control (I have to order online not otherwise available in U.S.) my skin practically became porcelain. I get compliments on it all the time. These anti-androgen medications also help to clear up "extra" hair you may have and made my scalp less greasy, as they are used to help women with PCOS. I have absolutely no interest in having kids, but if you do that is a concern as there is a chance (though no actual real-life reports) that Spironolactone MAY affect the development of a male fetus. Remember doctors have to be extremely careful about this due to our liability (CYA) culture. I wouldn't risk it though if that's a concern. Spiro also acts as a mild diuretic and at first can cause some weight loss because of that. I pee a lot. I did have some mild shedding for a few weeks when I began Rogaine and then was quickly followed by rapid growth. I had friends asking me if I'd gotten hair extensions. I've been on Rogaine since April 2009 and then started Spironolactone a month or two later, if I remember right. I started at 50mg, then went up to 100mg and now at the so-called maximum/most effective dose (not sure I believe it is) of 200mg/daily. interesting fact: Trans-females use very high levels of Spironolactone and birth control like Diane 35 to help feminize themselves with female hormones. I will say that there are possible real long-term risks. Spiro and estrogen-heavy birth control have a possibility of slightly increasing risk of certain female cancers while also cancelling out others (I forget which ones in particular). Your libido may be affected. There's also over time a possibility of gaining weight, but if you keep an eye on that you should be fine. I successfully lost and kept off 40+ lbs. a few years ago while on all these meds. I'm assuming you've already had your thyroid checked too? I have a hypothyroid and tends to be strongly correlated with this type of hair loss. Anyway let me know if you have any other questions!

Hi! Just checking in to see how you would rate your prp success after all these months?
I still haven’t pursued any treatment, but almost on board with giving rogaine a try.
You’ve been using since ‘09 you said, have you consistently used it? Or ever gone off it? Do you use the liquid or foam? Do you feel it makes your hair crunchy / hard to style?

Rogaine works great. I only use the foam and it actually is almost like hair mousse. Does not affect my hair quality in any way so long as I was it every two-three days or more. PRP is iffy. I can't say I am positive I had any real results, especially considering the exorbitant price and experience of it. I had a bad experience where the doctor (NOT the one listed here) was very disrespectful to me and my mother so I will not be returning to see him.

I’m sorry to hear about your experience with the rude M.D. :( / lack of results from PRP. You’d think bedside manners would be integrated into med school training!
As always, thanks for the reply. Trying to get over my fear of aging skin quicker with rogaine.. but think I’m on board.
Ps not sure if you’re looking for any cosmetic fixes.. but I’m a fan of Joan Rivers great hair day powder to fill in spots in my hairline that are a bit weak. There’s also toppik hair building fibers and bumble & bumble hair powder spray (but honestly, any root cover up spray works well too). I had a bout of alopecia areata for a few months, so had to get creative. I also love halo style extensions for added volume. They don’t put strain on your hair like permanent or clip in extensions. And the hair quality is AMAZING.
I’ll prob check in with ya once I start rogaine, just bc I am

I've done two PRP sessions with 21 days apart and will be doing my third treatment in two weeks, so there will also be 21 days between my 2nd and 3rd injection. I've read everywhere that it's more recommended and affective to do it with few months apart and when I ask my doctor why they only do it with few weeks apart he tells me it's because of the hair growth cycle! My question is does this treatment work the way it's been done to me and how necessary is to maintain?

Tell me, how the treatment of PRP plasma http://integrativemedicineny.com/platelet-rich-plasma/ proceed? Do I need to have some additional procedures or drugs then? How effectively and quickly restored the injured tissue?
