I am 34 years old with no children. I have been overweight my entire adult life. I have decided it's time to make some changes for me. I never had a problem with what I saw in the mirror but I'm starting to get uncomfortable. I'm a little over 5'8" and my weight as of today is 270. I start my liquid diet tomorrow...I am sooo scared the closer I get to actually having this done. I will use this as my outlet, its difficult to talk to people who just don't understand why I don't do it the old fashion way. I have been asked why I don't just exercise or change my eating habits ( as if this was some new novel idea).I know some of them are worried, but I have researched this for over two years and I think this will be great for me.

First of all, congrats on your decision towards a healthier future. You are doing a great thing. Being scared is something we all go through, you are not alone. Don't worry about what others say, they do not and will not understand what we go through as overweight people. I am sure that they are concerned with you having surgery, it's surgery for goodness sake! It will be fine, maybe educate them about your research to ease their minds. Welcome to RealSelf. There are a lot of us on the Top Ten Tips Before And After Gastric Sleeve Surgery every day (at top of page under Forums). Lots of subjects and support for each other. Jump in if you ever have a question.

You will be fine. I am 4 weeks postop and down 20.8 lbs. You have made one of the most important decisions of your life (for you) so never mind the negativity. We here in the WLS Surgery Community are very supportive of one another because we all have the same common goal. To lose weight so that we can have more productive lives. Just follow your eating guidelines PostOp and the food stages. Ensure you buy about 2 or 3 boxes of Gas -X it will help with the gas pains after surgery along with plenty walking and water. Keep is posted and don't delay asking any questions. We look forward to your new journey.....Atlanta GA

Ok trying this again...my surgery is scheduled for Thurs 25...I don't think I'm nervous anymore just ready to get it done. I think I have everything I will need:gas x, vitamins, comfy clothing, antibacterial soap, pre mixed and powder protein, my fmla finally approved...not sure if I'm missing anything. I do have a question for the ladies...I have PCOS and don't normally have my cycle but I feel as if it's going to start any day; will this stop my surgery? Has it happened to anyone else just from the liquid phase?

How did everything go?

I did get nauseous once, but it was because of the nurses purfum. I was walking around that night (I sent my family and friends home) I live alone and wanted to make sure I could take care of myself. So far crushed medicine is HORRIBLE and I haven't tried any protein shakes.

My prayers are with you. We are a very supportive community here. Just as you said many not dealing with our issues do not understand therefore we are family here because we keep it Real. I am 6 weeks postop today almost 25 lbs lost. This will be the best thing you could have ever done for yourself. The gas ⛽ pains and everything else will only last a few weeks so don't get discouraged hang in there it will be so worth it.....Take Care....Evelyn in Atlanta!

So far I've had slight gas pain, so I have been blessed. All I wanted to do was sleep. I'm home now...trying to get adjusted to getting around on my own. I feel like an old lady shuffling around lol

Im in the same boat Mshill, NERVOUS as heck ...Im going down the “check List” so that my insurance approves it when the paperwork is all said and done, but still i cant help but read the negatives to see what the worse case scenarios would be and of course it makes matter worse for me :/
