48 Years Old and Very Scared to Have This Procedure. New Jersey, NJ

ORIGINAL POST

Hello I am going in tomorrow to have the sleeve...

WORTH IT
Hello I am going in tomorrow to have the sleeve done. I have so many thoughts going through my mind. I am 5'8 250lbs I am sad that I have come to this point and upset that I am unable to do this with diet and exercise. I have just gotten to a point that I am tired of the weight going up and down. I would loose 20lbs then gain back. I guess I want permanent results and I feel this is permanent. My other emotion is excitement for the loosing weight....or what is my life going to be in 5 years? I'm scared if I gain the weight back :( it's like I don't trust myself to change. Sorry I'm not showing my face. Only my husband knows. No other family or friends. Oh yea and I am a nurse so all my fears of post op complications are going through my mind. Lol

I am also 48 & was worried about complications. I was just sleeved on 4/4 and feel amazing. I know I was lucky in that I just had pain for the first 6 days & never vomited and have not had aversions...yet. I go to puréed on 4/21 so I'm very new but I wanted to reassure you done. I am already so glad I did this. I'm working toward 10,000 steps and would/could not have done that before. And this is only 2 weeks out! I worked on my " head " for months before the surgery. It will be a lifelong process but we will be LIVING. Best of luck.

Thank you so much for posting this. I've been sleeved for 6 hours so far and wondering about my next few weeks. I honestly don't feel as bad as I thought. It was extremely painful the for 30 minutes after surgery but I'm ok now. So excited for my future

I'm also a nurse, actually I'll be an NP in 1 month :) so I too am worried about complications. Unlike you I've told everyone :) despite people trying to talk me out of my decision I am confident in my decision. I definitely feel you should be too. As nurses we tend to care for everyone else and somehow we forget to take care of #1

Hello!! I had it done today and I am happy so far with my decision. It's not as bad as I imagined it to be. Congrats on your NP.! I know what you mean about telling everyone but I just cannot deal with the lectures of how wrong this is and how I need to workout more My immediate family knows and I'm good with that. I need to really focus on me which as women or nurse we don't do! Lol. I'm excited for the future

I had the sleeve on August 28, 2015 and when I was waiting to go under I got a panic attack and just wanted to run. I didn't and now I have lost 56 lbs., and now 144. I was 200 before the procedure, diabetic taking 5 shots a day. I now take pills only. Just think how much better your health is going to be and how great you'll look after you loose the weight. You're going to be fine.

I'm sleeved! It's uncomfortable at this stage. I'm still in the hospital leaving tomorrow. I'm on clear liquids and when I drink the pain is around my chest It last maybe few second . Wondering if anyone has felt this?

Sipping tiny tiny sips at first is the hardest thing to get used to. I had that pain and still get it sometimes if I try to drink too fast. I am in my 4th week post-op. I was 190 and I was in the low 160's last Friday. I haven't weighed myself this week but I'm averaging 3-5 pounds weight loss per week. Stick with the post-op diet and sip slowly and you'll do great. Congratulations! :)

I should say I was 190 at my highest weight. I lost weight on the pre-op surgery too. ;)
April 21, 2016
Good Lord, I meant pre-op diet* lol
April 21, 2016
Thanks so much. I think I'm drinking too much too fast and my body says no way and the pain starts. I'm going to try to just sip it. I saw my surgeon and she said there still is a lot of gas in my body. So I have been walking the unit. Seems to help
April 22, 2016
Yes, the gas pain doesn't help but slowing down the drinking too sipping is crucial. Take it one day at a time. It gets so much better every day. :)) You'll do great! :))
April 22, 2016
It does get better every day! Your body is adjusting to the sleeve and this take a little time for you to re-learn how to eat and drink. You will get there! Baby steps :)
April 22, 2016
Thank you so much. I'm feeling frustrated. This helps me to have hope
April 22, 2016
I am 3 1/2 weeks post sleeve & defintely had that pain from drinking too much too fast!
May I also recommend GasX dissolvable strips?? They are still helping me
April 23, 2016
I'm going to try that. I walked outside today for 20 minutes and that seem to help. Thank you

10 day Post op visit to MD

m04192016
I started at 250 my weight was at 235 today at the MD office. My bandage were removed and I met with the dietician to move on to phase 2. I was so excited to have something different. I made butternut squash soup and it was delicious. I added peanut butter to my shake but it was to heavy. I was too full. I've had one really bad episode of heart burn where I was going to drive myself to ER but I knew they would do nothing for me so I just walked and walked took gas ex. It finally went away. Overall I'm really happy I did this I just want to get into a routine of eating regular foods. Soon enough. The doc also mention this is critical 2 weeks because this is where people get dyhdrated because they stop drinking fluids because there too full with foods. I'm nervous but I'm keeping an eye on it. This is it so far

YAAAAAAY! Congratulations on your weight loss so far! That's fantastic! Definitely stick with the doctor's advice. To stay hydrated just remember that your protein shakes count as liquid and so does soup, even if it is a little creamy. I also drink G2 Gatorade everyday to get my fluids and electrolytes in so I stay hydrated. I still drink a G2 Gatorade everyday. You are doing great! Keep it up! Day by day! :)))
