I am a 41 year old mother of two daughters, ages 9 and 12. Both of my babies were C Sections which left my body undeniably unattractive. I've never had to worry about my weight or body image before kids. However, after having my girls, my self esteem was in the toilet! I tried every fad diet, meal plan, pill, shake, spray, etc that came out on the market. I even started working out at our local gym about three years ago, four days a week. Although I lost weight and felt to be much more in shape than I had in a long time, my stomach never improved. It didn't matter how many days I spent at the gym, how much cardio I did or how healthy I ate, my stomach and hip area remained the same. I had tossed the idea of a tummy tuck around for years and even joked to my husband that I was saving up for one. He must have heard enough of my "belly aching" because as of four months ago, he told me to just go and get a consult done already. So I did! I met with the PS in October 2014 and by the end of the consult, I was scheduled to have a full tummy tuck, lypo on my flanks and the strengthening of my abdominal muscles in January of 2015. It's been 17 days Post Op and although it's been a slow, uncomfortable recovery process, I've never looked back. My body is "normal" again and I love it! It's expensive and the recovery period is slow, but it is so worth it to feel attractive again. So glad I did it!

That's awesome! Congratulations! I'm 18 days post op right now and I had a mini tummy tuck with no muscle repair although I did have Lipo of my flanks. I'm so happy it's done and feeling better every day! I've been back to work full time since 5 days post op and it was hard but I had to go. Anyway, please post pics when you get a chance! It's cool to see someone that had surgery on the same day give or take a day! Talk to you soon! Melissa

I too had to return to work a week after my surgery and it was very hard. I'm going to have to have my hubby take some post op pics as I am not very good at taking selfies ;). Thanks for your comment.

Yea most people get to take a month off but that's ok we may swell a little more at the end of the day for doing too much too soon but we'll be stronger from it!! Lol

Thank you ladies. I feel a little better every day, but I'm still taking it slow and easy. I have returned to work full time, but I sit at a desk most of the day so it isn't too bad. I'm only taking Ibuprofen and Tylenol intermittently to help take the edge off especially in the evenings. I can't wait for the swelling to go down so I can see the full benefit of this transformation! Hope you are all doing well too! Happy Hump Day!

I'm 19 days post op and the swelling is my only problem! Glad you are able to go back to work so soon! I think my recovery is going slow, so I haven't been able to go back to work yet! Hopefully, next week I'll be able to start back.

I wasn't too excited about returning to work, but I was out of sick days and we're going to Florida for spring break so I needed to save at least a weeks worth of vacation time. I'm a juvenile counselor so for the most part I'm sitting in an office. It was the emotional part that was the hardest upon returning to work for me. Took me a couple of weeks to get back into a routine again. It's all good now though. ;)

When is it ok to start putting scar treatment cream on my incision?

User Avatar

As of Friday, I will be 3 weeks post op and my steri strips just came off this morning. My incision looks good. I'm just wondering if it is too soon to put scar treatment cream on it yet?

Keep a light film of Vaseline on it. It needs to stay moist in order to heal with better results! Google it! Also a lot of people seem to like and use silicone strips. My doctor does not really believe in them but he said some people swear by them. I will be getting some because at least it will be something that's on my scar to keep it moist!

Thanks!! I did order some scar cream (Revitol)? Had really good reviews so we'll see how that works. Should be here any day.

I started silicone scar strips at abt 2 weeks after my steri strips had all come of. I got the biodermis brand strips and put the skinmedica scar gel on first and then the strip. I'm amazed at how great everything looks and I'm 6 w today! Happy healing!

Small setback with the healing process

User Avatar
busterdaisy
Well, I've developed a small bump on my incision that has now started slowly leaking a yellowish (sometimes with a red tint--blood I assume) fluid. I called my Dr's nurse today and sent her photos which the dr. reviewed. He wants me to come in on Thursday so he can look at it in person and make a diagnosis. Grrrr....I'm praying it's nothing major and just small fluid buildup. The nurse asked if it resembled a waterbed? I don't know...what does a waterbed look like on one's stomach? My stomach is definitely more swollen than it has been in previous weeks. Anyone else going/gone through this? I'm just so bummed!

I think what they mean is does it ripple like a waterbed if you push it on one side. I had a small area in the very middle of my incision that started to open a little bc of the dead tissue not wanting to close up. supposedly i also had some fat that was trying to get out. It was really gross....treated it just with some guaze and saline and it's finally closing up! Unf the healing process can be a slow one but your doing the right thing with getting it checked out. This too shall pass... and you heal up fine!

Yes! This is what the nurse said it probably was. Gross is right! Did your ps put you on antibiotics? Mine did. I'm hoping it doesn't completely open up. Yes. It's a very long process. Everything else is going well. Very little pain which I'm so happy about. Thank you for your comment and support. I appreciate it. :)

when strips first came of I was instructed to put neosp and vasaline on it and cover with guaze. Did that for two weeks and it actually stayed to look worse (which I was told is normal). Then the next two weeks I've been soaking guaze with saline that my doc have me and putting dry guaze on top. He assured me it would begin to close up and really just in the last couple days it's amazing to watch the change. It's def closing up and I feel it will heal up fine. I go for another follow-up in the am. Well let you know what he says. from what he says and what I've read it's a very common minor complication for tt. Just requires some extra healing time :)

Sorry meant to say I soak a small pc of guaze in saline and then I packed it into the open wound and cover with dry guaze

Ok. Thank you. I feel better reading this. Hope it's a good C/U for you tomorrow.

I would have your doctor test the fluid. I had a similar situation with my scar and kept complaning to my PS and finally he tested the fluid and I have MRSA. Now I have holes in my scar.

I am! My PS doesn't seem to care or feel that it's normal because she doesn't want to see me until March 2nd.

If it gets any worse Helicoptermom3, I would insist on getting in to see your PS ASAP! She needs to make sure it's not infected or a seroma. I would be persistent in this case. I've been putting antibiotic cream on it and covering it with gauze. It seem to be helping. Hope everything turns out ok ;)
