I felt very comfortable and at ease the minute I met Dr. Van Ye. He had a fantastic bedside manner and explained everything that he would be doing on my body so thoroughly that I didn't have to really ask him any questions. Fantastic surgeon.

Update on the bump on my incision.

I went and saw my PS yesterday. He said he felt a little fluid surrounding the area on my incision. He said that it was a combination of the start of an infection, a little bit of fat necrosis and fluid. So he made a tiny incision into the bump with surgical scissors and squeezed the fluid out along with lots of blood (good thing I was sitting down). My PS said it would most likely drain for the rest of the day and possibly for a couple days after that. I've been on antibiotics for a few days now and it's been helping.
I was so happy that I didn't have to get aspirated with the huge needle and that my stomach was still very numb so I couldn't feel my Dr. cut into my skin. It's still draining some, but no pain. Dr. said to continue keeping an eye on it but it should all heal up nicely. Feeling thankful :)

Thanks for update! I have two more days of antibiotics to take and my scar below belly button has oped a little, so a little fluid is draining. If I don't see improvement next week I'm going to demand to see my PS next week!
For sure. I'm so glad I went in. It was worth the 6 hour drive. Good luck. I hope all goes well for you.
Thanks
Looking forward to seeing post-op pictures. I too am from Wisconsin I had mine done three weeks ago in wausa.
Cool. I will put on post op pics soon. How's your journey thus far? Happy Healing! :)

Small setback with the healing process

Well, I've developed a small bump on my incision that has now started slowly leaking a yellowish (sometimes with a red tint--blood I assume) fluid. I called my Dr's nurse today and sent her photos which the dr. reviewed. He wants me to come in on Thursday so he can look at it in person and make a diagnosis. Grrrr....I'm praying it's nothing major and just small fluid buildup. The nurse asked if it resembled a waterbed? I don't know...what does a waterbed look like on one's stomach? My stomach is definitely more swollen than it has been in previous weeks. Anyone else going/gone through this? I'm just so bummed!

I think what they mean is does it ripple like a waterbed if you push it on one side. I had a small area in the very middle of my incision that started to open a little bc of the dead tissue not wanting to close up. supposedly i also had some fat that was trying to get out. It was really gross....treated it just with some guaze and saline and it's finally closing up! Unf the healing process can be a slow one but your doing the right thing with getting it checked out. This too shall pass... and you heal up fine!
Yes! This is what the nurse said it probably was. Gross is right! Did your ps put you on antibiotics? Mine did. I'm hoping it doesn't completely open up. Yes. It's a very long process. Everything else is going well. Very little pain which I'm so happy about. Thank you for your comment and support. I appreciate it. :)
when strips first came of I was instructed to put neosp and vasaline on it and cover with guaze. Did that for two weeks and it actually stayed to look worse (which I was told is normal). Then the next two weeks I've been soaking guaze with saline that my doc have me and putting dry guaze on top. He assured me it would begin to close up and really just in the last couple days it's amazing to watch the change. It's def closing up and I feel it will heal up fine. I go for another follow-up in the am. Well let you know what he says. from what he says and what I've read it's a very common minor complication for tt. Just requires some extra healing time :)
Sorry meant to say I soak a small pc of guaze in saline and then I packed it into the open wound and cover with dry guaze
Ok. Thank you. I feel better reading this. Hope it's a good C/U for you tomorrow.
I would have your doctor test the fluid. I had a similar situation with my scar and kept complaning to my PS and finally he tested the fluid and I have MRSA. Now I have holes in my scar.
I am! My PS doesn't seem to care or feel that it's normal because she doesn't want to see me until March 2nd.
If it gets any worse Helicoptermom3, I would insist on getting in to see your PS ASAP! She needs to make sure it's not infected or a seroma. I would be persistent in this case. I've been putting antibiotic cream on it and covering it with gauze. It seem to be helping. Hope everything turns out ok ;)
