I certainly look better than before the op but I could be happier. Specific issues that I wanted to be addressed don’t seem to be any better. My nose is nicer in profile but still bulbous. My jaw line has a small jowl like appearance. Nasolabial lines are still very noticeable so that adds a bit of tiredness and age to my appearance. So I’m looking forward to my next check in with the surgeon because it was so much money and a mediocre result. I really hope that he will offer some improvements.
Smooth and Pain Free.
I had a chin implant 8 years ago with an Auckland surgeon. At the time I couldn’t afford to have my nose done at the same time. Over the 8 years my chin stayed fine but the skin below it started to say and was saving me a lot.
When I saw Brandon, I told him about my areas of concern and he talked me through what he could do to improve them. He has a very calm, reassuring manner which I really liked. While discussing a neck lift and rhinoplasty, we decided that a face lift at the same time would finish off the results really well. So I decided to go ahead with all 3 at once. This meant only one recovery time and one general anaesthetic.
He was booked up with a 3 month wait so I was able to book surgery for the first day of the school holidays. Being a teacher this was the optimum time for a2 week recovery period.
I returned to the clinic with my partner who was anxious about the procedure and Brandon talked him through the process and he was reassured.
My anaesthetist was Justin Imrie. He was awesome. Again a lovely reassuring manner and I felt safe and confident having him responsible for my life (lol). I met with him prior to the op where he asked me some questions and took some details.
On the day of the operation, I had to be at Grace Hospital in Tauranga for 7am. I was in the waiting room for about 5 minutes when I was taken by a nurse and asked more questions (many of the same ones that I had been asked previously). I was weighed and measured and given an ECG. Changed into a gown with warm socks. Brandon and Justin both came to check on me during this time.
I then walked through to a ward where I waited with my partner until it was time to go through to the operating room. Surgery was scheduled for 8am and was dead on time.
The OR was huge and dazzling (compared to the one at (Southern Cross in Auckland). A quick chat and I was out. (5 hour op).
It took a while to come round and I didn’t attempt to walk for a number of hours. Hospital's facilities were great. I had lots of attention from nursing staff who were all wonderful. Brandon and Justin came to check on me again.
Nurses came throughout the night with medications and to check if I wanted anything.
Was checked on again by Brandon and Justin then was discharged with lots of medication and follow up appointments booked.
Heavily bandaged for a few days and lots of rest with periods of moving around the house to avoid DVT. Then back to the clinic for nose packing removal and drains removing. This was weird but not painful. No pain at all up to this point which was very surprising. Large bandage removed and compression garment fitted. In a few days, I go back to the clinic to have my rhinoplasty stitches removed followed by nose splint removal a few days after that.
I’ll update after next appointment :)
