I had my implants put in about 8 years ago. They were “fine” but they never felt normal (which I thought was normal) and my range of motion changed and along with sensitivity, etc. All these things I accepted but as a dancer who uses my body for my career, the time finally came when I could no longer accept the pain and discomfort. I didn’t want to have to worry about the possible cancer-causing effects of having a foreign object in my body anymore, the pain in my neck and the gravel-y feeling under my collarbone were not okay. I knew I would have my implants removed - someday.
Then this past summer, I finally had the courage to look on RealSelf at some before and after photos. To my surprise, this procedure has become very popular and the after photos do not look like pancakes! After some time to heal, women look great and more importantly FEEL better. I read stories online about how women came to love their bodies more and I made my consultation appointment with Dr. Wendel. He was kind, supportive and understanding. We decided to do a fat graft from my hips into my breasts to add a little more volume to my small A-cup breasts after taking out the D-cup implants I had. Surgery was scheduled and 2 weeks later I was going under for my procedure. Upon awaking, I reached down to feel under my collarbone; the gravel-y feeling from tight muscles and tendons was completely gone!
Recovery was pretty easy and I was fully back to work in 3 weeks (dancing). I am amazed everyday at how beautifully my new scares are healing and how much I like my little breasts! In my before and after photos (which I will not post here due to identifying tattoos), my left breast with the implant set higher than the right and the nipple was significantly lower. Now, they are even and soft looking. I feel so much better and couldn’t be happier with my decision to have my implants removed. If you are considering this procedure, don’t be afraid!
