I am a breast cancer survivor of 6 years. ...

I am a breast cancer survivor of 6 years. Currently 56; Lumpectomy, stage 1, chemo, radiation, currently taking tamoxifen. The decline in my sex life was gradual. I felt very comfortable in talking about this with my oncologist. My husband has attended nearly every dr visit with me over the last six years. This topic was brought up in nearly every session. Once you get passed "all of the cancer stuff," you just want everything in life to go back to normal. Sex was one thing that had not. I felt my husband and I had a pretty descent sex life; two to three times per week and satisfying for both of us.

My pleasure in sex over the last several years has declined considerably to the point of avoiding contact or anything that might lead to intimacy. Intercourse became very painful. I head tearing, pain and bleeding during intercourse. I've tried, replense, vagifem, estrace, steroid cream, and compound creams -- all without a whole lot of success. While these treatments may work for some, they didn't for me. While you are trying these treatments, everything was always -- you need to try it for several months; well months eventually lead into years.

I've always kept doing internet searches on various treatments and finally came upon Monalisatouch. I started googling and read several reviews. I was happy to find treatment only 30 minutes away from me.

After an initial consultation a few week back; yesterday was my first treatment. I was treated both internally and externally. A numbing cream is applied externally for approximately 15-20 minutes before the procedure. Once in position for the treatment, large qtips were inserted to "dry out the area" (insert joke here). All numbing cream was wiped off. The procedure was relatively painless. The internal treatment just felt like pressure. For the external treatment, she did have to "dial back" the intensity. In the area where I experience tearing, the treatment felt like pin pricks but compared to the pain of intercourse, it was very tolerable. In the areas where I experience no problem, i felt nothing.

I was at the office for a total of 1 1/2 hours by the time you complete paperwork, do prep, have treatment, and post treatment care. Aquaphor was applied immediately after along with an ice pack. It does feel like you have a sunburn and you feel swollen. The Dr instructed me to apply Aquaphor after each time I urinate and to keep the area moist until the area is healed. No intercourse for one week because of external treatment. If only internal treatment, it would have been 3 - 4 days.

I've had virtually no discomfort and the procedure was 24 hours ago. I am very optimistic that this will be the proper treatment for me. Based on my history, I'm a good candidate. I hope it turns out that I'm a great candidate!
