I had always wanted better shaped breasts since I was in my early twenties. I was not particularly bothered about them being big, just a more desirable shape and enough to make me appear more "womanly" since I'm not very curvy elsewhere.

As I was approaching 40, after years of relying on padded bras and going as far as I could in terms of "acceptance" of my body, I was inspired by the results of a family member who had undergone a similar procedure. The results were very natural - to the point I did not even realise until she told me. I was also quite wary about looking like a [RS bleep] star so seeing her results was helpful.

I had seen ads for MYA and thought I would start with a simple consultation to see what it was all about. While it was far from pushy/hard-sell and my patient coordinator was very informative, honest and understanding, it is clear that they are keen to have you sign up for a surgery. I was contacted a few days after the consultation to see what my thoughts were, and was soon offered a significantly reduced rate for a surgery package because of last-minute availability. That said, there are "cooling off" options so at no point should anyone feel coerced or trapped into something. The patient coordinator is also very good at answering questions and responding to any concerns should you have them. I chose not to have more than one consultation with the surgeon before agreeing to surgery as I felt comfortable about the recommendation and all the literature that had been provided.

On the day of the surgery be prepared for a long wait before being taken into theatre. You have to fast from the night before so you will be very hungry. As it was a Sunday, there was no catering available -which would have been helpful to know beforehand. The hospital I attended is in Preston and is clean and comfortable. I can't fault any of the staff who were involved in the procedure i.e. anaesthetist, operating theatre assistant, post-op nursing. I did not feel pressured to leave after the procedure and I had woken up. I was checked regularly by the nursing staff and looked after well.

Post-op care with the MYA nursing staff is also great. My only complaint was the post-op consultation with the surgeon was significantly delayed which was very inconvenient. However this could not be avoided as he was stuck in traffic. All in all, the process was very professional, good value for money and I highly recommend MYA to anyone considering a similar operation.

My first meeting with my allocated surgeon Mr Frati was positive. In terms of interpersonal style he might come across to some as a bit aloof and uncommunicative, perhaps overly business-like. I interpreted this as his personality style rather than disinterest or rudeness, but for some people, this might be something to take into consideration. Mr Frati was quite forthright about whether something will work or not, and very quickly gives you an assessment of what he feels is right for you based on your ideas and wishes. I chose not to have another consultation before agreeing to surgery as I felt comfortable about the recommendation and all the literature that had been provided.
