I can finally check off the removal of my #1 dysphoria! I am posting this about 6 months after but I am including some other notes some posts from other questions from friends and other sites I posted in... a such from my journey...
I scheduled this surgery almost 4 months before having it, as Dr Haben has a pretty long waiting list. The surgery cost is documented on their website and includes two nights hotel stay at the Airport Marriott in Rochester, NY... pretty nice place and close to several worthy "last meal restaurants" I drove up from Ohio so we stayed 3 nights as the first day you have to have a pre-consultation that is a MUST. I met Dr Haben and pretty much cried as soon as I saw him. He was super nice and informative. He had me do a baseline reading and he took measurements to determine the approximate stitch location. Basically he used a scope to look at my cords and had me speak and hum sounds. You can tell he has done 100's of these and really knows his work! (Which is why I chose him over any other surgeon) So after the visit we visited the National Museum of Play and relaxed.... Surgery day was pretty fast.. I was checked in to the hospital and went back to the pre-op area almost immediately. Everyone was SUPER nice and helpful. The Surgery lasted about 3 hours (I had the triple so you may want to look that up) I was in the recovery room for about an hour. I went back to the hotel (Which they can provide transportation to) The next day I had the follow up and he checked everything and I was given a clean bill of health and instructions on aftercare.Just as others have done before me and to help my sister with their decision to have this done, I am presenting you with "before and after" sound clips of the standard Rainbow passage.
If anyone has any questions for me about anything, especially this surgery, I would be happy to answer. I could not dream of a better outcome and I am so happy!
I suggest for the best affect, listen to the POST op first!
This is 30 days post op (Glottoplasty, CTA (cricothyroid approximation) and Tracheal shave) AKA the "Triple" and what is most common are three separate procedures done at once. One shortens the length of the vocal folds, so they vibrate at a higher resonance (Glottoplasty) the 2nd is the CTA this tightens the folds and prevents so also vibrate at a higher frequency (Think of tightening the strings of a guitar) lastly is the chondrolaryngoplasty (Aka the tracheal shave) aside from aesthetically removing the Adam's apple it also reduces the mass which increases the resonance so when I speak now, my resonance stays in my neck and head. I can't make it go any lower into my chest.
So it effectively puts my Timber/Resonance and pitch in a naturally female range without trying......

These are the Pre-Op recordings:
This is after 7-8 months of professional transgender training

This is PRE "Everything" - No Voice training whatsoever.. GUY Yuckiness in all its glory!

I really never had much pain even at the incision site, Since I had the CTA (cricothyroid approximation) as well as the Glottoplasty it puts me in a permanent "swallow" that feeling is slowly going away so the only discomfort would be when I yawn at the moment and that discomfort is lessening too. (Post op 6 months and this almost gone) So vocal range.... Now I am only 30 days po-op and things only get better. I am told I am one of the exceptions that my voice is not very raspy. It is normal to sound for the first 3 months. I can talk for about 15 minutes every hour before my voice goes... and I mean it just feels like laryngitis no pain I just sounds like I lost my voice lol in 20 min I can talk again but I usually have been resting it for about 40 min. So the range right now feels like I can go as high as I could before (But I will be able to go higher) my lower range is completely gone YAAAAAY !!!!!!!!!!!! The lowest I can resonate is at the bottom of my neck and it sounds funny.. like a girl trying to sound "low" Now My old voice app I could cross 3 octaves now it is just the two upper ones at the moment. So yeah I can sing, but I don't want to push it much right now :)
I have been answering my telemarketers calls (The SPAM ones that sell the blue pill enhancement drug) just to hear them ask me to talk to my husband HAHAHAHAHA and that is just me saying "Hello?" I had a voice reveal party over the weekend and it was funny to hear my friends say they keep turning around wondering who that is. It is priceless :) OH so something else. I have kids and they were so worried about me sounding different. My family too.. I may not be able to go low as before but I can talk like "Dad" and brother and they were very comforted to know I was still there when they need it. This is a good example of how pitch is just a small part of the female voice. My intonation and tone are what really makes me Kristen although not having to think about keeping my pitch high is amazing!

Thank you for sharing such a helpful review. I've just learned about Dr. Harben and if your results are typical then he's definitely on my to do list. You've got a beautifully silky voice which I'm sure you're thrilled with. I'm curious if you gained pitch, and if so, how much?

Hey Kim, thank you! I am almost a year post op and I would say yes I can pitch higher than I was able to after I posted this. I can definitely pitch higher than pre-op!

Thanks for your reply, that's really helpful. ATM I don't have issues with my voice, but a bit more pitch sure can't hurt!

Thank you so much for the detailed review! I haven’t came out to my parents or anyone yet, I’ve been looking at costs for different surgery’s to hopefully have a plan set before going over with them and was wanted to ask do you think this surgery should be one of my first to do? I hate my voice and honestly want to change it but don’t know if this should be like a “last surgery”

Sorry for some reason the site didn't notify me there was a message. I think we are all different but hands down I would not change the order of my transition procedures. I have spaced them all 6 months apart.

#1 Voice
#2 FFS
#3 Breast Aug
#4 360/Lipo/BBL (Aka body contorting) - November 2020 Dr Doback
#5 SRS - PPV PriyMed (Dr Jane Watson) Sometime in 2021!

DONE!

Cool to know you're also with PriyMed! Like you, I would check off my surgeries in the same order. Interestingly, Jane insisted that voice should be the last surgery due to intubation. That got me wondering if that's ever highlighted as a possible concern? Clearly, it hasn't had an impact because your voice is like, wow!

I have had no problems, Dr Haben made sure I know to tell the anesthesiologists to use a #6 breathing tube. I picked the physical parts of my body that gendered me first... After my voice and face my Dysphoria is almost gone! :) I would not worry about it at all! :)

Hi Kristy,

I'm Jessie. Thank you for sharing your results! You sound lovely, I'm happy for you! I'm planning to get my voice done by Dr. Haben hopefully in 6 weeks from now. I have a couple questions for you.

- Are you able to speak and pronounce a clear, higher-pitch sound at all after 30 days post-surgery? Or does it sound raspy/husky?
- Are you able to scream, yell, or sing like normal after you recovered from the triple procedure (2-3 months post-op)?

I am still considering whether I should get a double or triple procedure. I was a singer and I'd like to sing again with a feminine voice, but I'm not sure if triple would make it harder for me to hit some lower notes.

- Also, how does the scar heals for you? Was it really obvious and how long does it take to fade and be less noticeable?

- And would you recommend Dr. Haben to all future patients?

Thanks again, I appreciate your help.
