My Melasma Fight - Mountain View, CA

ORIGINAL POST

Well my nightmare started on november of 2008,...

Marcheline
WORTH IT$50
Well my nightmare started on november of 2008, when i saw a little brown spot close to my eye on my upper right cheek, i was on birth control and also i never took care of my skin or used any type of sunscreen, also i was a heavy smoker. How the spot was so little i did not really cared a lot about it and then i just forgot.... i guess i got used to have it and though it will go away ... after one year dark brown irregular spots spread on both of my cheeks and forehead, i tried to get rid of them using naturals remedies i found in internet... it just did not work very well, so then i decided to give it a try to Hydroquinone 2% gel, it did work a bit, but part of my skin was damaged from it and turned light pink... I decided to stop using birth control and the Hydroquinone. On January 2010 i got a cooper DIU, so I've being hormones free since then. Last year on September 2015 I found Skinceuticals Phyto + Botanical gel for hyperpigmentation, it was recommended to me from a consultation i did at Skin-Spirit, they also gave me a free laser test on a little spot of my melasma to see how the skin respond.... long story short this serum was too expensive for me $80 USD and the laser treatment costed $800 USD each section... they recommended 3 session for my problem without guarantees of success. So in the web and i found the gel on amazon, i bought it for $48USD and one bottle lasted more than 3 months. I was very glad with the result,...at first i was not sure if it was working because it does not make u feel nothing at all like peeling or anything, so i waited, then December came and i went on vacation to Chile and to be honest i did not take care too much of my problem and some days i forgot to use sunscreen (very bad, i know!). So now is february 2016 and i realized some new spot are coming back not to dark, but i can tell is spreading a bit more from my cheeks. I order a new gel from amazon and i started to be very carefull again using it morning and night every day and sunscreen too. Even though this gel helped me a lot i think i am stuck in point that i have the feeling it won't fade more than this, so after reading reviews in Realself i decided go to see the doctor William Ting and see what can he do for me. So i will keep you all posted about my melasma. I am posting the photos i took before treatment gel and the photos i took 2 weeks ago. Wish me luck! *English is not my first language so i apologise for any error*

I have been taking tranexamic acid I divide 1 pill in half take one in the morning with breakfast and the other with diner, total intake per day is 500 mg. I haven't take photos yet and to be honest I have been taking this for almost 3 month following a ketocenic diet and topical skin brightening that I got at the dermatologist and two times per week I use tretinoin cream 0.025% and all my friends and my husband says they hardly can see the patches of melasma...., but I feel yes is way lighter but is not gone for complete. I think I am too hard on me and I might not been appreciated my achievements cos I just want them all gone for good. Will post before and after that s weekend.

Interesting. I've never heard of that pill but looked it up. It's also used for aid in blood clotting. Perhaps I will try this. Thanks

You don't know how "bad" the patches would get so I would use caution. Freckles are cute. Melasma is freckles. It doesn't necessarily HAVE to be treated. You have nice, small pores and overall GREAT skin. Be careful with all of the things you do to remove the melasma because it could create other issues that are FAR worse! I think your freckles are cute! :)

thanks for your word i will be very carefull =)

Ur story sounds very familiar to mine

Hello Sanchezjm, my face has good and bad days, but definitive has improved a lot. If you check on the photos you could see that my last photo was taken in January of this year. I am only been using The skinceuticals gel, and sometimes at night i do put some castor oil ( i have read some people said is good for melasma), but has you now the melasma is hard to break so it takes time, so i will finish this second bottle of gel and keep using the castor oil at night and see how its goes, i will post news photos in March so we can see better if i have had any positive progress. Also i have my appointment with the doctor William Ting the 5th of March so i will update my post about how was that =)

I forgot to mentioned i am taking Solgar Ester-C Plus Vitamin C Ester-C Ascorbate Complex Tablets, 1000 mg. it's one of the best ones i found and i stop using the niacin pills, because i feel when you are taking so many differents stuff then when you get results is hard to know what did really worked out for you.

Thanks to be concerned about people here of the realself community, but honestly i am just trying to share what i am using and i have showed my result using the best photos i could take. I truly believe if somebody is doing a treatment that is working should share it using good quality photos of before and after. My experience with the products has just helped me to fade it a just a little bit but th melasma is not gone and just like you i am very expectical, but in my desperation i have also fall because the scam of people posting lies and that is the most sad thing ever this site should stay clean from those outsiders who don't help and just play with our hopes to get better.
I bought the Mandelic acid after reading other person here in the community saying she got rid off her melasma using that plus sun pills, so i bought it and it did nothing but making me get new little dark spot so i stopped using it. I hope if u have any good treatment could share it with us. Thanks and have a great day.

New photos February 2016

Marcheline
So this is an update of my achievements using just Skinceuticals gel. The photos are mostly from my Right side because that is the most problematic area i have. I feel the photos might have too much light, but i believe or i want to believe it has faded a lot more.
As i commented before i got an appointment with Doctor William Ting and it was amazing! I feel so happy, he gave me all the options and also told me to avoid alcohol, nuts and soy, because they trigger the production of estrogen.... So of course the options are not cheap, but he assured me they will be a huge step to get my face back as it was and also showed me photos of the treatment on people with melasma and they were really amazing. So now i have to save money and wait for the next winter to do any of the treatment option he gave me =). In the meantime i will keep using my sunblock and using the gel. I will post better photos of my melasma as soon as i can get a better camera.

Hi...where can i buy the gel? I am from jakarta, indonesia.
March 9, 2016
I live in the States so i am not really sure where you could buy it from.
I would advise you to research for the brand SkinCeuticals.
http://www.skinceuticals.com/skin-discoloration-corrective-serums i bought it on a website Amzon and i got it for less money. Good luck

Can you tell me exactly what you are using to treat your melasma? Does that phyto serum worked? Please let me know. I am desperate. Thanks alot in advace!
April 19, 2016
I have used the Pytho serum for 6 months and from the photo i took on september of 2014 you can see that the melasmas has faded a lot but still is there. So now i am taking Vic C 1000, plus niacinamide 1000 gr. I went to see a very good dermatologist and they gave me finacea, because i developed a bit of rosacea after using Hydroquinone in the past. So Now i stopped using the Phyto because it won't fade more my melasma....I am using at Night only a peeling serum Mandelic acid, using sun pills (also you can see them on the photos if you wanna see the products i use) nothing else and of course a strong sunblock and i wear a hat all the time when is sunny. I found that using more stuff on my face it won't fix the problem, so after reading other person reviews on realself about melasma i decided to clean myself leaving bad food habit and following a program to help my liver to clean it self. I was going to do the Lumabright peeling that was offered to me when i went to the mermatolgis, but summer is already here in CA and a that scared me a lot so now i will just stick to a diet and using supplements and then once the fall come i will do the peel. I would advise you to read this review, that is the program i am following to help from the inside to outside https://www.realself.com/review/applicable-melasma-treatment-cured-melasmanaturally
Good luck and be patience nothing work like magic.

I also have melasma and would like to share a few ideas. Micro-needling with a prescription of Tri-Lunia or a prescription of hydrocortisone 1%, hydroquinone 8% and tretinoin 0.05 formal has been successful at reducing the appearance of discoloration and brown spots. IPL and fraxel didn't work for my skin type
May 24, 2016
I am very scared to use anything with needles on my face, my skin is so sensitive that one of my dark spot on my forehead was caused because scratched with my nails and the mark got darker and i still have it. I have read about Triluma and honestly the reviews i have read are not the best, also I did last year a Ipl Fraxel test on the darker side of my melasma to see how my skin responded to it and it was very painful and that was just a test on a very small area, now after a few month of that i can tell that where they did the test has faded a little bit but the price is $ 800 usd per session and they told me i would need 6..... that is too much money for me.
