I am writing this from my mobile, so this first update will be the highlights, I will come back with details in the update section.
I have always been embarassed by my smile, now that I am an a financial position to fix it, I decided to finally fix my teeth. ( Due to my fear of anethesia and dental procedures, my teeth are being removed 2 at a time for a total of 8 extractions)
July 19 spacers
July 29th 6 brackets placed on uppers. We are waiting for the teeth to fall back some and for extractions.
Aug 19th upper left 5 and wisdom tooth removed, vurtually painless, just a bit sore.
Sept 2nd bottom 4 and severly impacted wisdom tooth removed. 3 days after i had severe pain, there was a cut in my cheek that got infected and a dry socket. Intense pain days 3-9 pain began to disapate by day 10, gone completely by day 15. I also developed trismus and would massage my face daily and apply moist heat.
Sept 19th first adjustment, new gauge wire, 2 more brackets added to the top.
Sept 29th right side upper 5 and bottom 4 removed, again minimal pain, but very sore the position of the upper 4 left a large ole that is difficult to keep food out and it aches.
Last 2 wisdom teeth to be removed after I wean my baby.

More updates to come.

Congratulations on getting started! It can definitely be intimidating to start a process like this, and I'm very happy for you that you're doing well. :) Well, except for the dry socket. I had that when I had my wisdom teeth removed, and it's no fun.

Please keep us updated as you go. I know the community would love to see your progress!

Congratulations on finally stepping up to what I'm sure was a deep insecurity of yours. I'm 27 and can relate as I also felt myself feeling low about my teeth until on January 6th 2015 I too started my orthodontic treatment plan. It actually sort of begin August 4th 2014 when I started filling 12 cavities that I had. In January I had 5 extractions 2 of which were my bottom wisdom teeth. I didn't have any infections (thank God being a smoker) or any severe pain. On January 21st I had a rapid pallet expander installed on the top and wired metal braces on the bottom. In a nut shell, my jaw was to small so the bone in my mouth had to be broken and my teeth pushed outwards. I had to put a key in a little hole and turn it once a day for 21 days. It was left to heal for another 6 months. Sounds worse then it really was - removing it was worse then anything over the nearly 7 months of it being there! Once it was removed in July 2015, top braces were installed. My teeth were overly crowded, I had gaps and one of the extractions I had done was a baby tooth (at 26? I know right!) So the permanent tooth had grown in behind it which needed to be pull forward. Since January 21st 2015 when the bottom ones went on my bottom arch is prettty much perfect. Im on my last bottom wire - she just repositioned the bottom brackets a month or 2 ago for final tweaking. The tops are coming together nicely. She just cut one side of the wire on the left side and installed a chain on the back. I can't remember what it's called but It's been there for 10 days and I can see the difference already. I'm supposed to see her in 5 days so I'll see what she says. The right side has a small gap still but I'm thinking by the end of the year it should be closed up too. The moral of my story is be patient because really soon all you're going to do is smile. I smile in every picture I don't even care about how the braces look. It's gonna have its bad times but it usually passes quick. That insecurity or thought of people looking at your teeth when you talk is soon going to disappears. Soon you'll be getting compliments. You got this girl, I'm so proud of you!

What an ordeal....people who are born with aligned teeth are so lucky. I guess that's why they tell us to take our kids to dentist early. Maybe by time for college they'll have straight teeth. Congratulations....

You've got so much accomplished already! I too had to remove my wisdom teeth and got a dry socket - eek! Such a weird type of pain to describe. These brackets look so tiny on your teeth - you can hardly see them! Do you know what kind of brackets they are? How long did your ortho estimate your treatment would take? After all the work you've already had done, your braces experience should be a breeze!

I have clear top brackets. They are actually a little thicker than the metal. They estimate my treatment time to be 2.5-3 years.

Wow....you rock! It's amazing. Congratulations. You said you were weaning your baby? I think the baby may have been easier than your braces. Best to you.

I had braces (and 4 bicuspids extracted due to crowding that still existed even after losing my wisdom teeth) at 28, too. I was supposed to have orthognathic surgery, but insurance wouldn't pay so we went ahead with ortho: first a bite plate, then headgear, then full-metal mouth (this was 1979). By age 32, everything looked great, but I barfed up my Hawley retainer at a yard party in Canada, never found it, and was too embarrassed to go back. Dumb decision.

So at 68, I decided to give it one more try (basically, to keep my upper teeth from loosening & falling out). I did Invisalign Express, and am now wearing a clear retainer. You can bet I am wearing it not just for sleep but most of the time--and carrying its case wherever I go.

You look magnificent!

Your teeth and smile are beautiful! I’m just starting my journey now with the spacers. You reminded me to take pics but also how great my teeth will look in the end!
