Negative experience - the settings were too high for my skin type

Negative Experience

I had the Embrace RF procedure which combines Face Tite and Morpheus 8 (micro needling with RF). The Face Tite portion of the procedure was positive. The Morpheus 8 portion was not. After speaking to 3 additional physicians and consulting with 2 procedure professionals I was advised that the settings used to perform the procedure were too high for my skin type. Which is supported by the results. The lowest setting was used on my forehead which had no negative reaction and much higher settings were used on the face, jawline and neck which all had very severe reactions. I was also advised that for the 2 weeks prior to the procedure I should have been treated with Hydroquinone to prevent hyperpigmentation. I was not pre treated with Hydroquinone and as a result of that and the too aggressive setting that was used I had a very severe skin reaction which left me with severe swelling, red, raw skin, raised bumps similar to chicken skin every where the micro needles punctured my skin and severe hyper pigmentation all over my face, jaw line and neck. Everywhere the higher settings were used. My forehead, which received the lower settings had no negative reaction. The Dr. was dismissive of severe reaction to the procedure. It was only after 2 months had passed and after I had seen 2 physicians on my own that he sent me to see a Dermatologist. After being in the care of the Dermatologist for 2 weeks and after multiple doses of steroids, antibiotics and prescription steroid creams and non steroid creams I am beginning to see improvement. After two months most of the redness, skin sensitivity and bumps are gone. I still have considerable hyperpigmentation all over my face and neck, some skin sensitivity on my neck and some bumps still on my neck and face. According to my Dermatologist and other skin professionals I was told it my be 6 months or more before the problem is corrected and may require additional procedures to completely correct my skin texture and the hyper pigmentation.

Sorry, you had a less than positive experience. I'm a person of color and I had the exact same treatment, it was a little scary the first 2 weeks, but I was told exactly what to expect, so I wasn't overly concerned with what I was experiencing.

Anyway, I wanted to share that I made my own post-care toner to control hyper pigmentation. I took a 4 ounce bottle and I used alcohol-free witch hazel and mixed in 1 ounce of aloe vera juice with 3% Mandelic Acid and 3% Transexamic acid - both of these you can get in powder form off of Amazon. I also always wear sunscreen. This combo has kept my skin smooth and blemish-free.

Best of luck.
