6 Month Smiles: DONE in 8 months!

6 Month Smiles Journey
$5,500
Slight cross-bite, 40 year old woman. Never had braces ever. As I get older my teeth are getting worse. The left side of my teeth are pretty straight. The right side is crooked, and my top teeth do not go over or in front of my bottom. I also noticed the straight left side is kind of leaning towards the right teeth. I’m getting more self-conscious by the day! I am getting a cleaning and Impressions done in a few days. I will update my progress. I consulted 2 dentists and both told me I was a candidate with 9 months treatment back in 2013. Today, I saw one of the dentist’s and he estimated 6 months, could be 4, but thinks 6 is conservative.

Impressions Day
Today I went for a cleaning and the dentist took my impressions. The receptionist was chatting with me about if I was prepared for how different braces will feel in my mouth? I told him I had been researching and doing a lot of reading about braces in general and I am a little worried about how it will feel and how big they will feel in my mouth.
After my teeth cleaning were impressions. They did the bottom first. I had to sit with it on for about 4-5 minutes. It wasn't too bad but not very comfortable. Pulling the trays out of my mouth afterwards, I jokingly asked if I had any teeth left? I can't believe how hard those things were to come off. But thinking about how big the trays are made me kind of worry and I'm having a little anxiety about if I am truly ready for this process.
The dentist mentioned that he is going to put some kind of bumpers on my molars to prevent me from completely biting down in order to correct my cross bite until the bottom teeth move in behind the top teeth. Sigh. I'm not looking forward to even MORE hardware in my mouth.
My next appointment is in 3 weeks and will be the office 'braces on' day. I was told to expect to be 2 hours. I am going to update again after that appointment.
In the meantime I have to be incredibly diligent and tedious in keeping my teeth clean!

Braces on today!
I’m so grateful the braces are finally on!
My dentist put ceramic composites on top of one molar on each side so I cannot bite down at all. I only bite down on the composites and my teeth do not touch at all. It’s an awkward feeling and makes eating weird! I feel like I can’t really chew lips closed well and I make unintentional ‘smack’ noises trying to eat soup (my first meal) Sigh!
It also makes talking unusual. Imagine not being able to close your teeth. I can’t say “s” or “th” sounds hardly! I have a bad lisp now.
I’m told it will go away as I adjust to the braces.
No pain though. Feels tight but not painful. One of the brackets is rubbing my lip raw so I already am using the wax.
I was told not to expect any movement in the first month.
