5 months

some before & afters!

to anyone freaking out over swelling..

...i feel you! here is a comparison picture of my nose. i'll be posting a proper update in a few months probably, since all the stitches are out, and most of the bruising is gone (some yellow remains, and darker spots), and by now the very obvious swelling is gone, but things are changing on a more month-to-month basis.

If you are also having an extremely emotional experience through this surgery, you are NOT alone and you are not a freak. Do not believe anyone telling you "right after your cast removal is more or less what you look like", or "it'll take x amount of time for the swelling/bruising to subside" because everyone is different. the picture posted shows my nose right after cast removal, and it looks NOTHING like the one now.

this experience is also teaching me not to value physical looks as much. whether you are happy or not with your surgeries, know that you are more than 1 body part. to anyone else who is having an extremely emotional experience - know that you are worthwhile and that others are not seeing you the way you are :-)

mid week 7

this week has been difficult. i started feeling the bones more since they are coming through as the swelling is starting to dissipate. unfortunately, things feel odd. i stand by the doctor's competence, i really do think he is talented, and have seen his other work and loved it. he is also really kind. perhaps it really is just me. i'm trying to get a hold of him to schedule something to talk about it!

i'll illustrate what i feel with a photo (the one with the lines on it). the left side feels relatively normal. you feel the bone of the bridge going down as you'd expect, it's a little bumpy but that must be normal! on the other side, the bone goes off the area the bridge 'should' be. this is what it feels like, i tried to illustrate it on the picture. however, i did find an old picture pre-surgery that shows this bone, it was there before, just looked different. i'm wondering if during the osteotomy, perhaps everything is just wider than before and that bone is more off to the side.

i truly hope i can get in touch with the doc! maybe if i understood how everything worked i'd calm myself down a little. i'm not quite sure what to do about the anxiety over this, since i keep getting panic attacks. to be continued!!
