A brief synopsis: I had a Mommy makeover at Weston Cosmetic Surgery: Tummy Tuck, Lipo, Breast Implant and Lift. Dr Messa was exceptional from pre-op, to actual surgical technique, to post op care. His team is strong and the energy of his actual practice is warm, patient and caring.

(Disclaimer- this is based on my personal experience, everyone’s experience is different- and I am not a doctor.)
I am extremely nervous when it comes to medical procedures. This is probably a result of over researching both procedures and doctors, and seeing the myriad of possible complications that can occur. Picking a surgeon was like picking a partner to go into business with for a couple of months, It was a big decision for me.
To be honest I never thought I would be the person interested in plastic surgery, but a couple kids and years of breast feeding will change that. Approaching 40 doesn’t help. One day you wake up and your boobs look like pancakes and your stomach has its own stomach- time for a plan.
My Assitant has been seeing doctor Messa for years for boxtox and fillers, although she’s only 31. Additionally, her sister gets Botox and injectables from Dr. Messa and her cousin, who works for a company where looks are the most important has had her breasts done by Dr Messa and 3 of her co-workers also had their breasts done. They all still see Dr. Messa for botox/injectibles, and they look great. I figure that’s like 6 referrals- not easy to get.
I should probably also mention I live in Miami Beach only 1 city block from the most famous plastic surgeon TV doctor in Miami and about 2 miles from the second most famous “boob doctor” in Miami. I still chose; based on data, research and referrals to drive one hour to Westin for my procedure.
I booked an appointment to see Dr Messa- I figured it’s better to test out a practice with Botox before a major procedure. Since I live in Miami I was almost 30 minutes late but everyone was so cool and nice. I loved the warm energy of his staff, and Dr. Messa is so nice- I wanted to add more filler in certain places and he did it with no hesitation. We discussed the other procedures I wanted to do and I felt comfortable to book my procedure. Incidentally, my Botox and fillers looked the best they ever did.
I also want to mention this review is not about price- to be honest I did not shop around prices and I have no assessment on the fairness of his price, I was strictly concerned with the specific doctor I chose Not how much the procedure would cost. I will say this though related to price, the day of my procedure I had a chin lipo on the list of things I paid for and he looked at my chin and said you don’t need it- just cancel it. I found that very surprising. Like he wasn’t thinking about money at all- and let’s be honest isn’t that the type of doctor you want? I was hesitant to have work done by a doctor that is snap chatting or filming a tv show at the same time- that just didn’t seem professional to me, Dr. Messa is the opposite of all that hype. I want my surgeon to have a laser focus when they’re working on me because this is really life and death stuff.
Dr. Messa has a long wait and that’s just something that you’re going to have to accept. However, his surgery coordinator Diane was able to bump me up through others cancelations. Although, I still had to wait months to see him for surgery. He is extremely busy, it is not just hype, he legitimately performs multiple Surgery’s daily. The day of my actual surgery he also performed 2 other surgeries that day where I heard people come in and out of the hospital room next to me. This guy is non stop- in his office there is a small hospital area and an operating room it’s like a mini Mount Sinai back there.
Day of surgery was freighting for me, I arrived about 30 minutes early, and Dr Messa drew on me with the sterile marker. I explained I wanted a very curvey body and perky breasts. Before I knew it I was walking into the operating room- probably the most scary thing you can do, I laid on the table and I was out. I woke up in the hospital area where Jill was the nurse. She was nice and then the night nurse arrived. The night nurse had an energy that make you feel like whatever you need was ok.
I stayed overnight and when I woke up in the morning I didn’t want to leave. Obviously I had to but the thought of taking myself off the monitors and the blood clot preventative machines on my legs was very scary to me. Dr Messa let me stay a couple extra hours but I was trying to stay there like a week. Obviously that was not possible and ultimately I had to leave and I was fine at home.
Post surgery I really did not have “pain”, I thought it would hurt and more of what you feel is uncomfortable. The drains obviously, suck- and for me it was terrible I had one for 2 weeks and the other for over 3. I obviously had a big fear of seroma and I still do. But fingers crossed.
One morning a couple days post-op I woke up and the tape started falling off, I didn’t know if that was ok so I called the office and they immediately put me through to his house he was so nice when I spoke to him, only after I hung up I realized it was 7:45am on a Saturday. It probably could’ve waited but to be honest I was still a little off from the anesthesia and not sleeping I didn’t even know what day or time it was- still he was warm and caring on the phone.
Since then I think I talk to someone in that office almost every other day. I did not want to make any mistakes post op, and I’m probably overly cautious, but better to be overly cautious than to have a complication, or worse. Always the team on the phone is sweet and helpful and often Dr. Messa would come to the phone and just talk to me. Let’s be honest we all want to talk to the doctor. As much as we love nurses we wanna talk to the guy who’s name is on the building, just like we want the chef to come out of the kitchen during dinner.
The key to the recovery is following the protocol precisely. I created an Excell spreadsheet and I did not miss a pill or a task such as logging a drain or changing a bandage. This is key to post-op comfort. Also I started every day with 16 ounces of fresh pressed organic celery juice and following that a beet, carrot, cucumber juice. I also started taking Colace days before my surgery and Even on this regime I had horrendous issues with bowl movement initially and one that lasted days, I mean horrendous pressure, pain, crying etc. until I called Dr. Messa and he suggested a solution which worked, pm me for details.
Small items made me more comfortable post op- I ordered an old school grandpa recliner. Yes it is very ugly but I would really suggest it, especially an electrical one with a lift function. These key items helped me get through what was about a 6 week recovery. I am still in it right now- but my body already looks great and they said in several months it will be even better. Also I would reccomend getting a couple extra girdles so you can have a washing rotation. Also- if you have kids, you need to know this is impossible without help, whether is a husband, nanny, babysitter or all 3 - you will be out of commission, period. I couldn’t even make coherent phone calls for a couple days. Do your research- everyone’s recovery is different. You also might feel sad or depressed post-op. There were days where I just didn’t want to do anything and I didn’t feel like me, but now I’m passed that.
Based on my personal experience I would feel comfortable highly recommending Dr. Messa to any one of my friends. I already have 2 friends going in for consultations this month.
