Dr. Mehta is a very talented surgeon, and I do not question his surgical skill. However, my experience as a patient has left me deeply disappointed.
Over 12 years ago, I had a breast lift with implants. When I later returned to Dr. Mehta for a mommy makeover, I was very clear that I wanted my breasts made two cup sizes smaller because they were already too large for my small frame. I was also hesitant about replacing my implants because of my age. I expressed those concerns, but I was told I would not be happy otherwise.
During my surgery, I later learned that one of my implants had ruptured and was replaced. I did not know before surgery that my implant had ruptured. I never had a clear conversation with Dr. Mehta afterward about the rupture, what happened, or what my options were. My fiancé was told about the rupture, but I was never given the discussion I needed as the patient. Had I known, I would have chosen to remove my implants rather than replace them.
A year and a half later, I began experiencing symptoms including severe brain fog, anxiety, joint pain, gut issues, and rashes. My family doctor suggested I look into the possibility of breast implant illness and recommended I speak with my plastic surgeon. When I brought my concerns to Dr. Mehta, I did not feel heard or supported.
I was told that his office’s goal is to make patients happy. I reached out and explained that I was not happy with my experience, but I did not receive a response from him.
I paid approximately $34,000 for my mommy makeover, and I am left with breasts that are still larger than I wanted and significant back problems because of my size. What has been most difficult is feeling like my concerns were not acknowledged and that I am now left trying to find another surgeon and additional money to address something I believe could have been handled differently.
I believe Dr. Mehta is a skilled surgeon, but I also believe patients deserve to feel listened to, informed, and respected throughout their care.
