Its been awhile......
After years, and I do mean years, of research and trying to eat better and lose weight I decided it was time. I had lost 14lbs (down to 134) and was ready to take the next step. I found the surgeon I wanted and went from there. I had saved up for the surgery and lost income from being off work and I thought I had everything covered. Little did I know that what was about to happen to me would put a big damper on all my previous planning.
Fast forward to July 6, 2017, went to Miami to meet my doctor and have my surgery (had done phone/email consults before then). I had a mm which consisted of a full extended TT with a BL with augmentation. I am a healthy, woman in my early 40s (at the time) with no major health issues. Good to go. All labs, bloodwork, mammogram all came back great!! So had my surgery on July 6th as planned!
My PS starts his follow ups the very next day (thank God for that). So I went in and saw an NP and she immediately went to get the doctor. My stomach was grayish/purple and they were concerned for necrosis. The doctor gave me special medicated gauze to put on the area for the weekend and I had to send him pics twice a day for the weekend. I went back in to surgery on Mon July 10,2017 to have the necrosis removed. He got most of it and thought that treating it with different medication, gauze, etc would do the trick. I stayed in Miami for 9 more days after that just to be sure.
Fast forward again about 6 weeks later, the area of necrosis had spread and my incision started opening up in spots. I was finally able to see a wound care specialist and had the area debrided (sp). I went every week for 3 months until everything was closed and healed and then I was able to go back to work. Now, I don’t tell you all of this for you to feel sorry for me because I’m doing great now. But just to give everyone the knowledge of what COULD (but probably won’t) happen. I am healthy and very happy I had this done.
I have now lost another 17lbs (still working on it) and feel better than ever. Are my scars on my tummy beautiful and thin and almost invisible? NO Are there things I would like to have fixed? SURE, who wouldn’t if it was an easy and cheap “fix”!! But overall I am ecstatic that I was able to do this for myself and feel 100 times more confident than before. I can wear anything I want now. It’s an amazing feeling!!!!
I hope my journey has helped someone out there going through what I did or even just give someone the hope that even if it doesn’t go as planned, you can still have a wonderful outcome in the end!! Be positive ladies, positivity goes a very very long way in this kind of journey. I’ll share some pics I took a couple of weeks ago. If you want to see the disturbing wound pics those are in my earlier posts. I think I did a good job keeping those posted often during the recovery.
Wherever you are in your journey, I wish you all the best. Feel free to ask any questions you want and I’ll answer anything I can. Thanks for always being a great support system!!!
Just because
Started this journey a couple years ago. Weight was 148 and I lost down to 134 lbs before surgery. Started my weight loss journey again about 7 months post op MM determined to reach my goal weight. And now down another 14 lbs and finally have reached my goal weight of 110 lbs. I am so excited!!!!! Thanks to all you lovely ladies who have been here with me through it all!!
45 yrs old (17 mo po MM)
Quick recap for those that may not know me. I am now 45 yrs old with 2 grown boys. I had a mm with a TT, lipo to flanks, BL/BA with 300cc full profile, Natrelle silicone, round implants. When I went in the day after surgery for my check up, they noticed I had some necrosis at the tt incision. I was given medicated dressings to put on over the weekend butbwent back in for a revision surgery the following Mon (just 4 days after initial surgery). That surgery went well but not all of the necrosis could be removed. So fast forward 4 mo ( after my incision opening and going to wound care center) my TT incision finally healed. Scar is ugly but it’s closed and healed.
Today I reached my weight loss goal of 110lbs. and I couldn’t be happier. I lost 14lbs before having surgery and I have now lost 24 lbs in the past 10 mo through diet!!
So here are my stats as of today:
Height: 5’1 3/4”
Weight: 110.8 lbs
Bust: 34”
Waist: 26 1/2”
Hips: 37”
I hope wherever you are in your journey you are doing well. Please feel free to ask me any questions you may have. Even though my journey has not been typical and may not have happened the way I had envisioned it, it was still worth every minute and every penny!!! I am still so happy I did this!!!
I’m posting before and after pics as well. I won’t post the wound pics as they are gruesome but feel free to look up through my journey if you want to see them.
Provider Review
Dr Ortega seems to care for his patients and he did make sure to see me himself since I had necrosis and a second surgery a few days after the first. Even though I liked him, I felt like he didn’t listen to me when I asked for a certain size implant and profile. Seemed to just dismiss what I was asking. He stayed in touch when I went home for a little while but then I felt like he abandoned me when I started going to a wound care center. His staff is incompetent and could not even send paperwork for a wound care referral. I had to find a wound care center that didn’t need a referral. The office was not the cleanest and I had to ask for toilet paper for the restroom at 2 different appointments. Very unprofessional in my opinion
