16 days post op - totally worth it!

16 days post op - totally worth it! I stalked this site for over 2 years as i contemplated getting a mommy makeover after 4 kids. I rescheduled and chickened out 3 times before my actual surgery. I knew I wanted the results - I had a tummy tuck, breast augmentation liposuction around my stomach and flanks. I was mainly apprehensive and concerned about the recovery and down time (especially with 4 kids). I had an excellent doctor who eased my concerns yet gave me a very realistic view of my recovery. I was able to plan ahead child care and household help for the first 10-12 days. My doctor was spot on with the limitations and recovery timeline. I spent the first week with a lot of rest and sleep and focused on my recovery. The pain all long was very manageable. I was only on the prescription pain pills for the first 4 days. After that I could manage pain with Advil and muscle relaxers. I was lucky to have a supportive husband and help from family and friends. Things got progressively better by day 10 and by two weeks I felt so much better, each day seems better. I walked hunched over for the first 10-12 days and most my pain at that point was my lower back, compensating for bad posture. I did have my drain in for 13 days and once that was removed I felt much better too. I love my results and can't wait for the swelling and healing to continue and truly enjoy my new me! Here are my major take aways and suggestions I would give to someone considering a mommy makeover
1) the first 48 hours - expect to do nothing but sleep, eat, rest, use the restroom. Everything will hurt. Stay on the prescription meds and don't let them wear off. The pain at it's worst was not as bad as I feared it would be, stay on meds and it's manageable. Also, I slept in a recliner chairs for he first 3 days. It made getting up much easier. 2) expect to wear night gowns, robes...no pants for the first week. Makes life easier and more comfortable, especially because it will have binder around your abdomen and the drain.3) expect not to drive for the first 7-10 days. 4) By day 10 I felt significantly better and more myself. But it's important to still rest and not push your self too much. You will get worn out easily. 5) ice packs are great and I'm still icing my abdomen at the end of the day for discomfort and swelling at the end of the day. I have a hard time sitting still.6) possibly because of the tummy tuck, I felt very little pain in my breasts. I could lift my arms to change, etc. I was pleasantly surprised by this. Overall, I have felt that any pain or discomfort is well worth the awesome results. I had an amazing surgeon and planned ahead for my recovery, and it has been going very well. It's hard as mom to take time for yourself, but you deserve it!! I was so worried that my recovery would be too much of a disruption for my family. But it was only a couple weeks that I wasn't 100% mom and we all survived. If anything, I think it helped my kids see mom can't do it all. I hope to post pics soon!!
