Black Ink Sleeve Text Tattoo Removal Picoway

Figured I'd document my process here with tattoo removal and give everyone something useful to find if they find themselves in this place in life. Hopefully this is the correct place for that.

I'm going through with 100% removal, so this will be a long journey. I've went with Invisible Ink, and paid in full. I had enough ink to justify a 'half sheet' in their measuring guidelines, which cost around 4k for 9 sessions (18 visits for splitting up the arm). They have the Picoway laser and I'm told it's truly the only one out right now that really (really) works. I have all black pieces on my arm, most all done in the last 5 months. No cover-ups. I don't hate them but I decided I want a full cohesive sleeve done by a better artist. I got these done after my friend committed suicide in December and was beside myself for months, during which this process of tattooing memories of him was cathartic. I woke up a few weeks ago and realized all of this and decided it was time to go through removal. I understand all aspects of this pretty well and know what to expect for the most part.

I had my first treatment today and it hurt more than the tattoo. Not totally intolerable, but I'd say two times more pain than the tattoo itself. Especially on the inner arm. I left some text untreated by the numbing cream to guage how much of a difference it makes with pain, and can say the difference is negligible for me. Basically feels like a really hot grease splatter hitting your arm. And your body reacts right away. Lots of redness and swelling. Since my pieces wrap around my arm, they are doing the top and bottom half in sessions four weeks apart until probably session 4 in order to reduce the risk of circulation being cut off from swelling.
I'll post the 24 hour picture tomorrow, then follow up with one post between each session so you can see progress. If anyone follows this feel free to ask questions.

I should clarify that when I say the only one that 'works', it's the only one that's FDA approved to remove tattoos. Also one of few that actually removes 'black'. If what I've read is correct, the Picosure only treats shades of gray (not sure the difference that makes in actually removing blacks).

Out of curiosity, did you use the numbing cream provided by Invisible Ink, or was it something you bought yourself beforehand?

You're fading is looking really good so far! I'll be following along with your progress, especially since I'm going to Invisible Ink as well for my removal and would love to see the comparison.

They gave me the numbing cream. If its a small area its probably not worth the hassle of using it, as you have to glob it on then cover it in plastic wrap an hour prior to arriving (and I'm not convinced it does much).

I actually used it for the first time this past Saturday at my second appointment and it helped me more than I imagined it would. I applied and saran wrapped it 2 hours before my appointment as instructed.

My tattoo is black ink down my spine, and I did my first session without anything and it was painful. I can definitely see how an inner arm would be a super sensitive area as well. Maybe I just got lucky with the numbing cream and it working for me.

Ah yeah I have ink down my spine and it hurt the most of all my others going on, so I'd imagine I'd give the cream the benefit of the doubt as well :).

I’m in a similar position as you. Do they think that the 9 sessions will get rid of it completely? Just curious as to how many sessions I might need.

I think after 9 they will be very faded, probably light brown color. Definitely enough to do a cover up without the artist having to take it into consideration much. I think it's going to be more like 12, personally but only time will tell.

Ok, thank you for doing this. It is nice to know I am not alone. I am going in for a consultation next week to see if the Picoway can remove it completely. They are saying about $450 per session, so I know I am in for a huge expense... But I will hopefully be able to have my arm pretty close to normal again in about a year.

I'm already seeing some pretty significant light shading/shallow lines breaking up right after one treatment, which is promising. Basically everywhere the laser hit I can tell a difference, even though it's small.

Still continuing to see some shallow shaded areas of ink fade, and also the edges of text look blurred. Slight itching over the last couple weeks, nothing bad. Went back to the gym after 3 days off. It seems with blood flow or just a little sweat the area will continue to get slightly irritated in the surface, but subsides after an hour or so after the workout. Got a few very small pimple like blisters that do not hurt or itch. Just can see them. Other than that I've been covering up in 95 degree heat so that's going to suck this summer, but it's the bed I've made.. next treatment is two weeks in the underside of the arm.

Good luck.. how are you splitting up the removal? One tattoo first? Then another one after 6 weeks?
May 16, 2018
Top half and bottom half. One half every 4 weeks (so each hit every 8 weeks).

Thanks! I have a quarter sleeve upper arm tattoo for removal myself.. mostly shading but its black and and grey.. hopefully it fades faster if split also

Do you have more recent pics of the removal of the large tatt under wrist? Mine seems to be like that dark
May 16, 2018
The underside has not been treated yet. I've only had one treatment on the top side of the arm. Also, they split up the sessions so that it reduces the risk of circulation loss due to swelling (if you hit the whole top and bottom side at once when there's a lot of ink still, it's risky).

Cool thanks.. might split up my quarter sleeve then
