I'm having surgery on the 9th upper and lower jaws...totally freaked out! Can you give me any tips?
March 3, 2017
Oh your surgery is fast approaching!! Don't freak out hun, the first thing I say is enjoy eating while you can!! Once you have surgery you will be on mostly liquid diet for 6 weeks, I once got so desperate I tried to chew a tiny piece of pepperoni and nearly choked..it was the dumbest thing I ever did...you mentally will need to endure the fact that you will have no solids....you will lose approx. 10 pounds...you will mostly be on bedrest as you don't want to raise your BP. You also may get very constipated from not eating so I purchased smooth moves organic tea to help me with that. I have a high pain tolerance and wasn't in much pain, just uncomforatble with swelling. I used a lot of heat and ice packs, those will be your best friend. You may also want to purchase a water pix because your mouth with feel yucky due to your splint, the pix will reach places a toothbrush cant...anyways God bless with your surgery you will be fine hun...any questions ask me....at the end you will have a perfect beautiful smile! :)

I did not have jaw surgery, but I had a tooth abscess almost 3 years ago and could not open my mouth more than about 1/4 inch for over 2 weeks. I could not even fit a spoon in my mouth. A good mouthwash and small child toothbrushes are good to have. Target sells the childrens toothbrushes. I think the package says they are for ages 2 to 4 years, but not sure. Good luck with everything!!!

Absolutely gorgeous! Has your range of motion come back completely? I'm a year post op and still struggling to get more than 2 fingers. However, I was completely banded shut for 8 weeks, so I'd assume my recovery will be a bit slower.

Thank you hun! Yess I can open my mouth by to normal....really? I am not sure hun why your still at 2 fingers..should be able to open a least 3-4 by now..it could be just slower. I am fully back to normal.

That's awesome! I always heal slowly, so my surgeon and I aren't too concerned about it yet. She has me stretching with tongue depressors now (rather than just my fingers) hoping that will speed up the process :)

Awesome, happy to hear...please let me know how your doing as you continue to go along! :)

Omg you look so beautiful! I came across your review a few months ago and I really loved his work on you so i called dr. Caputos office. Sadly they did not take ppo insurance he suggested I see a dr in Beverly Hills near me but I wasn't convinced. Anyways now I don't have insurance but I'm shopping around for a new one but I've been told that if you have hmo that your consultations and everything have to be approved first and they send you to a dr. So my question is did you have to get your consultation approved first and if so how did you do it?

Thank you so much! Sorry for late reply! I had HMO Anthem Blue Cross (Memorial Care), Dr. Caputo is a Doctor at Saddle back which affiliates with Memorial Care. I got a referral to him due to my jaw deformity :) and then went from there, my primary gave it to me. I hope it all works out for you, he is an amazing Doctor!

Thank you so much for replying, appreciate it. So I read your review and your deformity was a cross bite/open bite right? That's the type of Bite i have too. I sent you a msg I hope to hear from you soon, thanks girly.

Beautiful! I'm in the process of having double Jaw surgery to move my bottom teeth back and tilt my top teeth etc... I too have insurance that's going to cover it all. Yay! There are moments when I'm not sure I want to do it. How much extra work did they do before you went in for the actual surgery? Did they take X-rays? Anything to see the nerve placement in your mouth before hand? Did they have a 3-D image that would show you what you're outcome should look like? All I've had done is some molds taken. I go in Monday to see what the total plan is. I have a bit of a longer face due to having a longer lower jaw line but high cheek bones. Did your face shorten at all? I'll go back and reread some of this. Thank you for sharing! The bad results have me second guessing this whole thing.

Hello elode, sorry I missed your post and thats great it will be so worth it I promise! Just as long as your in the right hands you will be fine! I had to have braces before hand, I had them on for one year before I got surgery, your teeth have to be aligned a certain way before the surgeon can do his job, with that said, that includes: Braces, x-rays, molds, everything..not sure about nerve placement because my Doctor is highly qualified and am sure he already knew where there at, as most anatomy is the same in people..no 3-D because all people look different and my doctor didn't want me to have some certain expectation..how did you plan go? I feel like my face relatively stood the same maybe slight change in jaw and nose..but very slight..lol..only I can probably tell.. and yess please read if you have time..I wanted to make sure I shared a positive story! <3 <3

Well it looks like your surgery went great. Love the smile. If you dont mind me asking, did your insurance cover your braces as part of the procedure or was it seperate? And if seperate, how much did it cost to get done? I started my process for surgery today and trying to get insurance to cover as much as possible. My ortho told me $11k for braces. Sounds a bit expensive and my teeth arent crooked or anything major. Thank for the help.
October 28, 2016
Thank you @Byrant... ;) My insurance did not cover my braces that was a separate cost of around $5700. 11K? for braces.. I may suggest you get another opinion that is a bit much just for braces? I had a open bite and all and braces was 5700, surgery around 12K covered by insurance..Hope this helps! btw where you from?
October 28, 2016
My ortho is near Dallas, Tx. He was very good with taking time to explain everything. I had 2 appointments that included xrays and everything that he didnt charge for. But i guess its thrown in with the cost of braces.
