5 days post 2nd treatment
The fluid “swelling” overall has dissipated now I’m just left with swollen/lumpy pits. I won’t say it’s painful more so uncomfortable. I did go to the gym 3 days post & it wasn’t the best experience. I have not wore deodorant since before the procedure & I have zero odor in my left arm which I had more sweat reduction to begin with & very slight smell in the right. I also have felt dampness on my right side but no real wetness & only in a small section. Being as though I am still swollen I expect my results to change as time goes on. With the level of discomfort I personally experienced you might trick yourself into believing you’ll be completely sweat free ;) this is not the case. This procedure was never advertised as 100% reduction but instead 82% reduction which I believe is what I’ll experience. I am also totally okay with this :) going from excessive sweating & stained clothing both smell & color wise, you would be very appreciative of the results I have. I am so very thankful for MiraDry thus far.
Will update soon :)

2nd MiraDry Treatment
Hello, wants to come by and update on my 2nd treatment. It’s been 24 hours since I had the treatment done. As previously mentioned, during my first treatment I felt quite a bit of discomfort with moderate pain equating to a really bad pinch & the worst pain being a burning sensation. I voiced my concern to the nurse who would be numbing me. Needless to say, I needed a whole lot of Lidocaine. So much she declined giving me anymore as I was trembling quite a bit due to bad nerves & anticipating the pain from each pulse. They believe my body metabolizes the lidocaine quiet fast.
On my right underarm we had to bring the nurse back in twice to give me more injections. There was only one real occasion where I couldn’t tough it out & asked her to stop. It was so bad I was literally brought to tears. Keep in mind, even the lidocaine injections are uncomfortable. Now when you stop with the MiraDry machine you have to let it go though the cooling phase before you can remove the suction. Because I was treated at a level 5, once the machine gets to level 5 it’ll start counting down & cooling. If you stop before you get to your level you still have to go through the cooling phase & depending on which level you reach you may not be able to go over that area again. On the left side they were prepared to give me more lidocaine & conveniently the machine overheated so that allowed more time for numbing. This side was a breeze once the numbing set it. All in all, if you numb quite well the procedure will be painless. You will feel the suction each time but no pain.
Once finished with my right side I was given ice while getting my left side done. Upon leaving they gave me another set of disposable ice packs or the road. I iced from 4:00pm until 1:00am & I would strongly advise everyone to ice consistently. It truly helps. You are advised to take Tylenol if needed for the pain. Being as though I remember how horrible it was for me the first time around, I didn’t bother with Tylenol. Largely due to the fact I had only one left but also because I had Vicodin on hand. So thanks to the icing & Vicodin I was able to sleep pretty well. I woke this morning feeling a stinging sensation at the incision points so I took another Vicodin & iced some more before falling into a nap. Now at 6:00pm, I am swollen which in itself is uncomfortable but no real pain. I was given an antibacterial bar soap for cleansing in the shower & used Neosporin on my incision sites. I will attach photos of my swollen underarms.
As time goes on I will update on my sweating progress as well as hair growth progress. Coming in to my second treatment I would say I had about a 70% improvement in my left side & 60% improvement in my right side. We decided to focus on the very bottom of both underarms where sweating was continuing & the center points. She did use a larger template this time to get all areas. Being as though we used the max setting both times I do believe there will be improvement. I will NOT be going in for a third time regardless if I still sweat after I recover this time. I could’ve lived with the first results so I definitely will be fine this time around.
Tomorrow I will start massaging my underarms with almond oil to move the saline fluid down & out of my underarms as well as to help with scarring from the incisions. Also, stay away from deodorant/antiperspirant for at least a week.
Will keep you updated on the overall outcome. If you have any questions please let me know :)

MiraDry - Seattle/Bellevue,WA
Hello, I wanted to share my story of the MiraDry procedure as RealSelf was a huge help in me finally deciding to go though with it. Like many others, I have had excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) since the 6th grade. It’s sweating that occurs more when anxious & dormant than in heat & active. Backwards if you ask me. I spoke to my dermatologist about it & at the time the only options were Botox or oral medication. Botox is rarely covered by insurance & the up keep wasn’t something I was interested in. So I opted for the oral medication (glycopyrrolate). Now, this medication definitely worked, dried me up for sure. But with that came excessive dry mouth & blurred vision. So i opted to use it only on special occasions.
Fast forward to learning about MiraDry & deciding to move forward with it. I went in for my consultation in April of 2017 & was scheduled for June 28th 2017. Now, after reading many reviews, please understand that everyone’s experience during & after will be different. For me this was not a painless procedure & going back to work the next day was a definite negative!
To start out the Med Spa I chose uses a technique of numbing with Lidocaine which wasn’t terrible but wasn’t painless either. You’re punctured quite a few times but it’s necessary. The also created two holes at the top & bottom of your underarms where they pump a Saline solution to “puff” up your underarms for better access as our underarms are concave. I hadn’t read about this part in any reviews & was a bit sad knowing I’d have scarring from this. The nurse chose the template & also chose level 5 which I was very happy with because my sweating was intense. It started off fine on my right side but once she got to the borders it was painful! I had to be injected with more lidocaine to help but it wasn’t very helpful. I believe you must give the lidocaine time to work before going back in. She had to stop quite a few times. Now the pain you feel from the device is a burning sensation that lasts for a short amount of time before it starts cooling... but that burning is no fun! My left side was by far the worst! It was as if minimal numbing was done & it got to the point where the lidocaine wasn’t helping & I had to just tough it out. I was very unhappy to have had to endure so much of the pain from the procedure. While the burning sensation is short lived, when it’s occurring over & over its far too much.
It was required I have a driver & they would not do the procedure without one. They will not allow you I drive due to the nerve shock. They sent me home with some ice packs & after care directions. The numbing was there for a few hours and wasn’t too bad. BUT ONCE THE NUMBING WENT AWAY ALL HELL BROKE LOOSE!!!! I have never experienced pain of this level before in my life. The first 24 hours after I completely regretted my decision. It burned like crazy & my underarms were so swollen I had to keep them up. So icing both at the same time was not working.
The pain goes away after the first day but then I was left wit the most ridiculous amount of swelling. I honestly looked like a linebacker & I’m a 5’5 125lb woman. My underarms were the size of a tennis ball. There was absolutely no way I could rest my arms at my side. While not painful it was uncomfortable. Keep in mind my swelling was in large part due to the saline solution & not all offices use this technique. I continued icing & massaging my underarms to move the swelling down. By day 3 the swelling reduced & the saline moved giving me some side boobage ;) With swelling reduced I was left with lumpy, tender pits. By day 7, I was able to relax my arms pretty normally but still had tender, lumpy pits.
During this time I experienced zero sweating or smell. I made the mistake of scheduling this procedure two days before leaving for Jamaica for a week :( So experiencing zero sweat in Jamaica in July was awesome. By the time I got back home I was no longer icing instead I continued massaging with almond oil to help the lumps & to help the incision marks fade. It was pretty hot by the time i got back home & I tested my luck by wearing a white t-shirt out in 80 degree weather. While a bit damp there was no sweat through.
By the 3 month mark I knew I wanted I get the second half of the procedure done. My sweating had reduced by 60-70%, odor didn’t have much changes but I did have quite a bit of permanent hair loss which I was very happy about.
Fast forward to 7 months later... My left underarm sweats less than my right. Odor is as normal but it wasn’t ever a huge issue for me with deo as I’ve read some people have serious odor issues. I am able to wear things I wasn’t previously able to wear without sweating through & staining with pit marks & pit smells. I go much longer periods of not sweating before some sweat kicks in. In idle times I don’t sweat at all & get away wit not wearing deo/anti a lot of days. Even when I do wear some, it’s nice checking my underarms & they’re dry as a bone & don’t smell like sweat mixed with deo/anti like they used to. My boyfriend is a weirdo & used to dive in & smell my underarm “mustiness” now he says I’m like new person as I’m not sweating or smelling nearly as much :)
I could live wit the results I have but I’ve finally gotten the courage to go back in for the second treatment hoping for more reduction, at least in the right pit & also more hair loss reduction. My incision scars are pretty much gone which sucks since I’ll be going back in but Bio-oil & Almond oil are huge helps.
My advice to anyone considering this is to know that results may vary. If you have minimal sweating & choose this procedure I’m sure your results will be amazing. If you have excessive sweating like myself, I’m talking sweat that rolls down your arm just sitting to your desk working or just sitting watching TV. It may work greatly for you or not at all based on reviews I’ve read. Do ask for level 5 if it’s excessive as to not waste your money. I was charge $1950 for the first treatment with the second being $950. I would advise getting this done on a Friday to have the weekend to recover. It is a very pricy procedure IMO but with the results I’ve had thus far it has definitely been worth the initial $1950. At this point there have been no ill side effects from the procedure.
I will update once I get the second session done. I will make sure they do a level 5 again & a larger template to get the very bottom of the underarms & the very top as well. Im hoping we can have a pain free procedure but if not I can survive again :) I’ll expect recovery to be the same so I’ll be prepared with hella ice packs & clearing my schedule for the next few days. Be back soon! & if you have any questions please do ask.
