Background:
Since puberty i’d sweat in every situation, just sitting there reading, writing, eating lunch, listening to a seminar in a freezing cold conference center, etc. I would always wear baggy, dark, thick, long sleeved shirts embarrassed about my sweating, I was always “cold” even in 90 degree (120 w/ humidity) in MN. Deodorant would cover the smell but not the wetness. As I got older I realized I just needed to wear black, which I like (or have grown accustom too), as a teen I was pegged as goth. As an adult professional I still always wear black, I’m perceived as someone with a negative attitude and unapproachable by people who don’t know me. Probably a combo of the black and the lack of self confidence.
How I heard about miradry and how I got started:
A year or so ago I googled excessive sweating and I saw miradry on a clip for Rachael Ray, I was intrigued. I did research and then just put it on the back burner. This month I started started hearing about it on a radio ad on 93X. I decided to start researching further and reading reviews on Real Self (specifically one from mhuerd31 I read over and over again) I finally decided I’d see how much it would cost if I did it. I called Envy Skin Clinic in Eden Prairie. Honestly I was a little shocked at the price, but the lady I spoke with was so confident that I would like it and be happy with the results I just decided to do it. I called a few other places in MN but decided cost wise Envy was the lowest price. Plus there was a special going on with 3 free laser hair removal treatments on top of the special from the radio. I got in the next day, I believe due to a cancellation. I went after work. I took ibuprofen before I made the hour drive there.
The first procedure was done yesterday:
When I walked in the staff was nice, there was some paperwork to sign regarding the laser hair removal, Miradry procedure, warnings, payments, etc. Lisa, (the nurse who would be doing the procedures) came out and introduced herself, got my paperwork together and brought me back to a room for the laser hair removal. She got right to work. It burned. Not at all what I was expecting. Quite honestly, probably worse part of the entire visit that night. After maybe 3 minutes we were done and moved to another room for the Miradry procedure. I laid down on the table with my head propped up a bit. From what I recall: I took turns lifting my arms above my head so that the sweat test could be done (I believe with starch and iodine), a guide was place on my armpits, then lidocaine was inserted in specific area to numb the area. After that a saline and lidocaine solution was injected to create a cushion for the procedure. Lisa followed the template she placed on my armpit and started suctioning with the machine. Right off the bat went to the highest level. Go big or go home. :) No hesitation for me, frankly I was afraid that they’d want to start low and results wouldn’t be as good as they could have been- but that was not the case at all and I really appreciated that. Because I was numb I could only feel the suction of the machine and in some spots it felt warmer than others but not unbearable, so I didn’t ask for more lidocaine. (Which I could have at any time if I felt anything.) The machine suctioned one spot for 40ish seconds then moved to the next section of the grid. Switched arms and done. I was in and out of the office within 1.5 hours. The time went by so fast too, Lisa was just wonderful, (like catching up with an awesome aunt who I hadn’t seen in a while!) I left with an ice pack under my arm, another ice pack to put under my other arm when the first one was done (20 minutes) and 2 frozen bottles of water, gauze and Info sheets.
Within hours after the procedure:
I went to eat and visited relatives in the area all while rotating a frozen water bottle between my armpits. The best I could describe the feeling when the numbing agent wore off is that of razor burn. When I went to bed I put ice packs under my arms but had a hard time getting comfortable. My underarms had begun to noticeably swell. I wasn’t able to lay on my side because my underarms felt weird. I can’t sleep on my back. I’m hoping tonight is better.
The day after the procedure:
I got up planning to go to work. My underarms were even more swollen than when I went to bed. The razor burn feeling was a little more intense than when I went to sleep. I showered was able to wash my underarms with soap but I got light headed and wondered about doing my hair and ultimately decided I should just rest and ice today because I knew I wouldn’t be able to at work. I was told not to put deodorant on for a few days after. Tomorrow when I’m at work and unable to ice every 20 minutes, we will see if I start to smell. I will definitely post more updates. A little less than 24 hours since the procedure I feel like I’m walking around like a body builder, my under arms are pretty swollen and bruised.

Per instructions from Lisa- I was not to force myself to sweat for 3 days or wear deodorant. I almost never force myself to sweat so that was not an issue... but 3 days later I kind of want to see how well this procedure worked! I have not put on deodorant, and I did wear a shirt I wouldn’t normally wear because the pits would be soaked within 10 minutes of putting on and I have to say I am so impressed and relieved that I it actually worked!

Second treatment done.

I am satisfied with the results. I would totally recommend this to anyone who suffers from excessive underarm sweating. I have yet to buy colored shirts because I’m just so use to wearing black but I can definitely tell there is not a lot going on in the pit area. I had the 2nd procedure done 4 days ago, I am still a little swollen but not in pain like I was after the first treatment. I was able to go to work after this treatment, the first one I did not. I haven’t really been icing or applying heat as suggested- I’m sure I’d be a little less swollen if I was. In the 9 months between the two treatments I wore deodorant most days. On days I didn’t I could smell a little BO but it wasn’t as obvious as it use to be. I did notice that I had some lumps still lingering around that tingled but I never got them checked out. I will if they are still around after I heal from this treatment. Lisa from Envy Skin clinic did the procedure again- she was fantastic.
