I don't have hyperhidrosis, but would say I sweat more than average for someone who is cold most of the time and doesn't lead an especially active lifestyle. I have yet to find an antiperspirant deodorant that prevents sweat patches or odour, and I've tried them all. I really don't like the idea of blocking my pores with aluminium either. Sadly, the natural alternatives are utterly ineffective. I'm scrupulously clean, shower twice daily and lead a healthy lifestyle, yet by mid-afternoon I stink like a leather-clad, hairy biker! I've had to leave events early because of my sweating and BO, so it definitely affects my social life. It's certainly exacerbated by nerves or anxiety, so dates and exams are a sweaty nightmare! Despite a severe needle phobia, I tried underarm botox once just for some relief. It worked perfectly for 3 months, but is not something I wanted to repeat.

I heard about Miradry several years ago. Fortunately, the price has decreased slightly since it's inception, the treatment protocol has improved and I've also had plenty of time to research and read reviews, so I knew what to expect. I had a consultation with Spirithoula Koukoufikis at the Phi Clinic in London. She's had the treatment herself and was very knowledgable and well-informed and conducts several Miradry treatments per week. I had the treatment 2 days ago, so it's too soon to say if it was worth it, but I haven't had any sweating or odour so far. I will briefly explain the steps for anyone else who is apprehensive about the procedure...

I informed the practitioner of my phobia of needles and requested numbing cream first (which they don't normally do) and asked that I don't see any needles. My underarms were marked and I sat for a while with the numbing cream, then it was cleaned off and iodine and starch were applied before photos were taken of the area of sweating. At that point the lovely RN Sarah arrived to administer the anaesthetic and saline. She was very careful to ensure all the paraphernalia was kept out of sight. First there were 3 lidocaine injections to numb the area. In fact, my entire arms, hands and fingers went totally numb. I felt it course through my body and began to shake in response to the adrenaline, a normal reaction. Then a canula was used to insert saline in various points, to lift the skin away from the nerves. This was the worst part for me because it took quite a while and I could feel the repeated prodding and began to freak out. However, they chatted to me to take my mind off it and politely ignored my swearing!

The actual Mirady part took about 10 minutes on each side and was totally painless. There was some slight suction as the skin was pulled into the handpiece and 'zapped'. The practitioner followed a grid pattern to ensure full, even coverage. There were some graze-like marks afterwards and one bruise. I was given Fucibet, an antibiotic cream to apply 3 times a day, as well as a couple of small ice packs for the swelling.

I was still completely numb and had to be helped into my top and fumbled quite a bit with the door to leave. It was a bit disconcerting trying to get home with useless jelly arms. Fortunately, sensation returned after an hour. The lumpy swelling was quite spectacular and I couldn't rest my arms at my side. I had small frozen water bottles to use, but they were too big so I just used the small ice packs they'd given me, wrapped in kitchen towel. I only took one dose of ibuprofen and have been taking Arnica 3x a day since.

The soreness and swelling have gone down quite a bit already. I'll have to wait and see how much sweating and odour, if any, returns. I can safely say that I probably won't be able to go through a second treatment though, because it was quite an ordeal (for me). However, they do offer the second treatment at a reduced price.

The Phi Clinic is a well regarded clinic on Harley Street that was one of the first in London to offer Miradry. I was very impressed with my Miradry practitioner and the anaesthetic Nurse.

Hey I’ve been thinking about booking a consultation at Phi for Miradry. Pretty sure I have hyperhydrosis but have never seen a doctor and instead do the all black and other tricks. Would you say it’s worth it now 10 months on?
June 18, 2019
I had my treatment at the end of May 2019, so it's been just over 2 weeks. Too soon to say whether it was worth it at this point. However, I recommend you visit the Phi Clinic for a consultation and discuss it with the Practitioner, they're very helpful. From what I've learned, it seems that those with hyperhidrosis do need more than one treatment.

I would have to disagree with that statement. I was a severe hyperhydrosis sufferer for years. Each time i had a miradry procedure the resulting sweat was less each time. That being said... It took 4 treatments to get to the point where i no longer need any deodorant.

Biggest thing is people get lulled into a false sense of security because there is a short window after eaxh treatment, untill thw swelling subsides, where the patient experiences no sweating. This probably lasts about a month. Dont let this initial "zero sweat" fool u into thinking that will be the new norm. Likewise, dont get discouraged when some sweat comes back.. It will be less after each treatment. But you will not be free of sweat for the rest of your life after 1 treatment, that admittedly is inaccurate info which i actively dispel every time i see somoene suggest it.

Miradry does provide permanent relief. But not in 1 treatment

Hi, what is Arnica?
September 11, 2019
Arnica is a homeopathic herbal remedy, used in tincture, cream and tablet form, to relieve bruising and swelling. It's often recommended post-surgery. I took the pills for about 4 days.

The worst of the swelling has gone and I'm left with some pretty gnarly lumps, which are tender to the touch. There's some residual numbness too. I decided to go back to the Clinic for a quick check up today and the Practitioner said it all looks good and was impressed there was no bruising (I guess the Arnica really works.) She advised me to massage the bumps with some cream to help smooth out the knotty tissue. I stopped applying the antibiotic cream yesterday and haven't had any sweating or odour so far, so no need for deodorant either. She said that the skin felt nice and dry, but that I would probably get some sweating return. I'll update again if/when that happens.

*I had my treatment on a Friday afternoon and would say it's fine to go back to work on the Monday, as long as it's not a physically demanding or active job, in order to avoid the possibility of developing banding (a rope-like puckering of the skin and tissue). In any case, I was assured that the lumps/bumps and even banding will resolve on their own after a few weeks-months.

You're looking great! The results you're seeing are textbook. The swelling starts to subside after about 48hrs, and by day 4 or 5 you'll have weird lumps in your underarms. These are nothing to worry about. They take a bit longer to go away, I had 3 miradry treatments and I'd say the lumps probably stuck around for 2 or 3 weeks after each session, they will get smaller gradually of course, but count on 3 weeks before there's really no more lumps in your underarms. Looking great, post a few more pics after week 2 and 3! Does the other underarm look the same?
June 16, 2019
I'm amazed that you had this done 3 times (I really couldn't put myself through it again!). How are the results for you now? It's just over 2 weeks and as you said, the bumps have reduced further, but there's still some lingering tenderness and a weird sensation along the inside of my upper arms. Both underarms look the same. I'll post more pics shortly. I've experienced no sweating to date and no odour either. So far, so good.
June 17, 2019
Sound like things are progressing about the same for you as they did for me, glad to hear you're doing well :). Yes pics that show 2 wks + post op would be an excellent as they'll be representative of the progress that has been made on inflammation reduction. I'm curious to see if they are also similar to mine.

How's things for me now you ask? Well... I admit, the first time was the worst. Fort 48 hours hurt a lot.. right? But, after about a month, you start to see some sweating return. I saw this after each treatment.. Less every time of course though.

After 2 treatments I'd say I sweated like an average person. But I wanted to be completely dry and free of chemicals. So I decided to go again. (and to be honest, I got an offer from my derm clinic to be a patient for their new miradry "trainee", so technically, I had 4 treatments with the 4th being free). After the 3rd session, I only needed a light deodorant (no more antiperspirants), and I stayed that way for a year. very life changing!

But after having the 4th.. wow!!! I've been bone dry (this is 7 months post my 4th, so I'm pretty sure it's not coming back). I need no deodorant now at all! Even when working out! So thing for me now are absolutely amazing. I love being dry and odour free all the time, with no need to use deodorants or antiperspirants. Took a while to get here, but my god so worth it!

See how you're doing in a few months, but if you decide to go again, here's what I've learned to make it MUCH more tolerable.

• Book your appt on a Friday, so you've got fri evening & saturday to tend to what feels like a nasty sunburn! (and Sunday if needed, though I found by Sunday I was pretty good)

• Pickup a 9-pak of those half size water bottles from the store. Put them in the freezer the day before your appt. They are the PERFECT fit in an underarm. cycle them for the first 24 hours after your treatment (extend to 48 hrs if you feel necessary). But the first 24 hrs makes a huge difference! You'll be thanking me :)

• Apply poly sporin heal-fast with pain relief few times a day for first 3 days (contains a light topical anesthetic that dulls pain).

• As soon as you walk out of your treatment, Take 2 advil. Continue to take every 4--6 hours for the first 48 hrs post appt.

You'll find your weekend you can still do quite a lot on the weekend, you'll feel a lot better than round 1! By Monday, the thought of returning to won't be daunting in the least.

Amazing that you are completely sweat-free - what freedom! Interesting, I've also read elsewhere that recovery is more comfortable after further miradry treatments. Perhaps because the majority of the sweat glands have already been destroyed?? In my case, the aftermath wasn't so bad, I only took ibuprofen the first day before the anaesthetic wore off. It was the procedure itself that was unbearable!

Good tips, thank you. I did book my appointment on a Friday and had a stash of small water bottles in the freezer for afterwards - but I'm quite petite so they didn't sit in my armpit properly, I was simply freezing my upper arm and the side of my torso! The small ice packs the clinic gave me were better, I folded them in half and they hit the spot. Only used them for 2 days, I think the arnica helped with the swelling too.

I simply don't think I can face the prospect of all those injections again. So whatever result I get, it will have to suffice.
June 18, 2019
I think that must have something to do with it (less sweat glands to destroy on subsequent sessions I mean), because ya it didn't seem quite as harh in subsequent rounds. It's been a long road, but yes, very liberating to be totally sweat free omg I can't tell you how it changed my life.

Sounds like you had all things setup good as could be :) But that's frustrating about the water bottles, (i.e. them being too big to fit so they can comfortably cool / reduce swelling, yikes). I didn't realize it was the procedure that was so difficult for you. :( I've read that depending on the technique used / skill of the nurse with needles, they can be almost un-noticeable or super painful. I barely felt a series a a few pinches, but the nurse who did mine was maybe really experienced? I'm sorry to hear that part was so harsh for you.... I do hope you get the results you're striving for and don't have to go through it again!

I'll be interested to see how you're doing in a couple months post. Hope you'll post an update!
June 18, 2019
I have a severe needle phobia (see below)! The nurse was actually a specialist and particularly experienced with nervous patients. I was just in a state of abject terror for close to 2 hours, so obviously not something I want to repeat. I will continue to update for a while.

Still no sweating! It's totally bizarre to get out of the shower and straight into your clothes without applying any antiperspirant/deodorant. I decided to shave for the first time since the procedure. (I have very little underarm hair due to laser hair removal years ago, and even less has grown back since the Miradry.) It's very disconcerting to run a razor over completely numb, bumpy skin - I couldn't feel a thing. Massaging the lumps in the shower is still a little tender though. I get the occasional stabbing pain in my upper arm or armpit as things settle and heal. Nothing else to report at this stage.

Oh wow, you're looking great under there lol! :)

Healing up very nicely, everything looks comparable to what I saw a couple weeks out. Ya the lumps stay tender for few weeks for sure, but they will continue to subside I have no doubt. Glad you're doing so well, and enjoying being able to put clothes on after a shower without having to spread chemicals all over your skin (it's a wonderful feeling right?!).

Thank you for taking the time to update your review, and post a couple pics of
your amazing progress. Laser looks great too btw! (I can also speak to how awesome that is!) and yes the Miradry procedure destroys hair too! double benefit
June 19, 2019
Thank you! I've read your review and you're surely the expert on Miradry by now! I don't expect I'll be completely sweat-free, but if I can get away with using a non-toxic natural deodorant I'll be very happy.
For me, laser hair removal was the most life changing thing I've ever done - I think I inherited the 'fur' gene!
June 19, 2019
LOL. I'm so glad you liked my review! I often wonder if it helps people (there was so limited info on Miradry at the time I did it I wanted to help people by making a writeup!). Guess after that many treatments perhaps I am a little more experienced eh ? not sure I'm an an expert but thankyou

Your Fur gene comment made me laugh!! :) I hear ya, even for a guy I was unhappy with the furriness level, so I did laser on some areas, and then kept going to others! It almost becomes addictive! Because I agree with you it is life changing. Wish I'd have done it 15+ yrs ago! I haven't done any write ups on that yet (too embarrassed I guess lol)
