MiraDry - Absolutely Worth It!!
I had given up on controlling my underarm issues after trying prescription antiperspirants (which sting!) and failing. I literally was online one sunday morning and saw someone's post about MiraDry - it was the first time I had ever heard of it. I started my research and literally had my appt for a consult 2 days later because I was so excited! Fast forward to the nitty gritty: You shave your underarms the night before and arrive in a tank top with no deodorant (scary to me since my appt wasn't until 11am). Once you lay down, you'll put one arm up and they'll apply numbing cream to get you started. You will definitely want it numbed first because I can't lie - the needles used (it looks like a multi-injector with several needles on this rounded contraption) really hurt. And I am not a wimp. Depending on the size of your armpit will determine how many of those injections you get. They literally place it on your armpit and push it in. And then inject a solution to give a cushion under your skin. It's kind of crazy. I was worried when i read some reviews about people's hearts beating fast from the adrenaline rush of the solution but I didn't get that at all thankfully. The closer the injection gets to your underboob the worse it hurts. There were a few times I had to say "Girrrrrrrrl..." ha! But you will get through it just like I did. No one died. Anyways, once I was numbed up, she tested my armpit by pricking me in a few spots to see if I could feel it (I couldn't) so let the lasers begin!! For 99% of it, I felt nothing, totally easy at that point. Only twice did the laser feel CRAZY strong like someone was burning me with a hot iron but it's better to just take a deep breath and power through because the laser is on a countdown. You can get injected with a little more numbing in between the lasering (which we did do once) but don't stop it in process if it hasn't beeped done yet. Both armpits took about an hour total and we were done!! They placed MiraDry brand ice packs under both arms and I was able to drive home with them in place. I took an 800mg ibuprofen about an hour after I got home since I didn't need it until the numbing started to wear off. I took pics of my armpits and sent them out to make all my friends cringe. HA!! I iced as much as good the first day and night and a little the next morning. I didn't really have any issues sleeping like some people did but I was really careful to stay on Ibuprofen for a good 24 hours straight. You can wash your armpits normally right away - I waited until the next morning to wash and I used Hibiclens for the first few days, once a day. You will feel like you have gorilla arms for the first day or two from all the swelling and it will be hard to sleep on your side at first but by day 2-3 I was feeling pretty decently good. I am a month out at this point and still healing. My armpit hair has totally slowed down too - you can barely tell I need a shave after 7 days worth of growth. I started exercising about 4 days out. I usually don't wear any deodorant unless I'm going out somewhere and even then I'll only do a small swipe and that's all I need. No more multiple applications a day (I used to do 3-4 a day if I was in the office around people). If I don't wear any deodorant, I only get a tiny whiff of BO that only I can smell. My husband is in SHOCK. I seriously just don't smell or sweat anymore (so far). A few notes: the first week or longer, you will THINK you're sweating but you're probably not. The solution they injected has to come out so your armpits are leaking it for awhile. Even now when I THINK I have some dampness, I'll touch my armpit and it's completely dry - the swelling makes you think you're damp (and yes, still swollen after one month but not horribly - this is a 3 month recovery process). Also, the first week the bottoms of my feet started sweating and I NEVER sweat there. Maybe my body was trying to regulate itself from its new missing sweat glands..? But the feet sweat has stopped since. I would absolutely say this is worth it. Yes, the procedure and initial recovery is ROUGH on the pain scale. But it's 24 hours where it's the worst and honestly, you will forget about it and move on because being able to finally wear tank tops and cute summer maxi dresses AND being able to wear ANY color or material of shirt is something I can't put a price tag on.
