Didn't Last...
I've had hyperhidrosis due to social anxiety since late elementary school. Antiperspirants couldn't touch it. I was really hoping MiraDry would be a permanent solution.
The procedure was pretty unpleasant. They inject lidocaine in multiple area (like a grid pattern) under each arm for sufficient numbing. Some of the shots hurt worse than others as the axilla region is pretty sensitive. I had to get extra lidocaine part of the way through on my left side (I've got the redhead anti-numbing gene it seems; I always have to get really good doses of lidocaine during dental work or I feel the drill). Even with the lidocaine I could feel some burning/stinging/tingling pain on some spots. I pretty much just gritted my teeth and got through it.
The swelling started immediately, and was quite severe a few hours later. Bruising was also pretty immediate and got darker by the next day. The pain was not fun! I took ibuprofen and tylenol around the clock for several days, and used ice packs as directed. The pain was severe the first night, and I got barely any sleep because of it. The second night was pretty bad too. The pain lasted a couple weeks but gradually tapered down during that time. In my opinion, a low strength opioid would have been necessary to actually stay comfortable (not pain free, mind you) during the healing process. If I were to do this again, I would definitely visit my PCP first or immediately after and ask about a pain med for the first few days. I'm sure individual reactions will vary, but be aware that the pain can be severe.
After healing, my armpits didn't sweat at all! I was so excited! Alas, this only lasted several months, and I was right back to soaking through shirts in social situations (UGH!!!). I know it may take another session to see lasting results for some people, but given the pain I endured, the cost of the procedure, and the fact that I was sweating the same amount again, I decided not to chance another session just to have it fail again.
I guess I've got some pretty resilient sweat glands (maybe because I grew up in south Florida?? Haha, who knows?). My dermatologist has since recommended Qbrezxa (a medicated towelette that you rub on your armpits). I gave it a shot and it's been working for over a year now. It's supposed to be used very day, but so far I'm getting away with 2-3 times per week. I am leery of the fact that it's an ammonianated compound, but I'm just tired of being embarrassed by sweaty pits and only wearing black synthetic fabrics to try to hide it.
