Progress

Hey all, it's been a bit since I've updated my progress. I had my surgury on the 12th of May and I weighed 260 as of 3 days ago I was down to 243 so 17lbs down. I am very very happy. Now when I started this journey almost a year ago when I attended an informational seminar on bariatric surgury, I weighed 293lbs. Over the past year I have learned so much and I have made so many changes in how I look at and use food. Food is fuel, it is no longer medication for everything that ails me.

Has this process been easy??? FAR FROM IT! ! Has it been worth it???? ABSOLUTELY! !

I really had no idea what it would be like after surgury. People can tell you what they experience which is so very helpful. However we are all different. Last Monday in the middle of the night I got very sick, I was dizzy, nauseous, I felt like I had something sitting on my chest.I felt like something was stuck (maybe food or something, even though I was on a soft diet) I couldn't catch my breath. I should have gone right to the E.R but I wanted to see if it would resolve on its own. I tried to go for a walk in the morning, thinking get some fresh air, get the blood flowing. I was not prepared for what I felt during my walk. I literally had no energy, I barely made it home. I was so lethargic, I had to sit down to take a shower. I got into bed and decided if I did not feel better when I woke up I would go to the ER. When I woke up whatever I thought was stuck was gone.
I called my bariatric nurse and she said to go right to the ER.
I had a lot of tests done and it was determined that I was dehydrated and had a bit of ketosis going on.
It's been 5 days and the dizziness is just about gone, I'm still a little nauseous, but I am still really tired. My nurse in the ER had the surgury 3 years ago and he really put me at ease telling me what I was feeling was not uncommon.
The first 6 months are the toughest.
I think I had a very unrealistic expectation of how I should feel at this point. I guess what I am trying to say in this long drawn out book I just wrote above. (Lol) is to be patient with yourself, call your bariatric support team if you are ever concerned about a symptom. Take it easy and get out and walk and be active , just don't push yourself too hard.
What has been done to our bodies is a major anatomy change and feeling back to being 100% I DEFINITELY not going to happen overnight. Be good to yourselves!!!

Would I do this again?? ABSOLUTELY! !

13 days post op

I saw my surgeon for my follow up today and he was very happy with my progress. I lost 6lbs since my surgury. I thought I should have lost more but he said I was right on track and basically 6lbs so far would come to 12 lbs in a month. I like the sound of that. :-)
I am out walking and I'm up to 2 miles. Not my usual pace, but that will come.
It is so strange to not have feeling in my stomach. I haven't felt hungry or full. Which is good.
I have to say I feel pretty good, and I'm looking forward to getting to the point where I can really start working out weights, more strenuous cardio. 3-4 weeks more and I should be ready to go.

I hope all of you are doing well and we'll on your way on your journey.

Will update again soon.

10 days post op

I was able to come home after 4 days in the hospital. It is now 10 days since my surgury and I am feeling stronger everyday. Today I went on a nice walk with my mom. I walked farther today than I had since before my surgury.
I have to say it's weird not being hungry at all, but I'm having trouble determining when I'm almost full. I don't feel anything. Hopefully once I get off the liquid diet and onto my soft food, it will be a little easier to tell.
Well, that's all for now, however, let me say this was the best decision I have ever made. Even thru all the discomfort. I don't regret a thing. I can already feel and see my body changing. I can't wait to start really working out, weights, cardio, etc. And see the amazing changes my body and mind will be making.

I hope you are all well and I look forward to hearing about your progress.

My dr. Dr. Howard Lederer and his team at Hennipen County Medical Center in Minneapolis, Mn were fantastic. There are to many good things to say about them, it would take way to long to write, so a big huge THANKYOU!!! The rest of the team at HCMC has been incredible!! The dietician, the patient advocate front desk personal are all amazing. The Nurses , and nurses assistants were especially amazing, I feel like I made a new friend in each one of them.
