I had a facelift 5 years ago and I was never satisfied with the results. The surgeon did a nice job on the lift (and eyes), but added some fat to my cheeks and around my mouth, which did not work well - in fact, it likely caused the problems I ended up with. He was a lovely doctor and, in general, the work was good, but he should have not have tried the fat transfer - just not experienced/knowledgeable enough. I waited five years, then went to the best surgeon in my area and it was a fantastic decision.

Wow! Thanks for an awesome review, but particularly for remembering my staff, without whom I cannot perform at the level I expect!
Office surgical facilities sometimes get a "bad rep" because doctors who are not "real" plastic surgeons certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery claim board certification in "cosmetic surgery" and are really non-surgeons (Dermatologists, Family practitioners, ER docs, etc.) or surgeons who are not trained in plastic surgery (ENT, general surgeons, OB/Gyn, etc.) who claim expertise in cosmetic surgery but cannot obtain peer-reviewed credentials in these procedures at hospitals or surgical centers, so they "open up surgery shop" in their offices to avoid these rules.
This give those of us who HAVE those credentials, operate in our own accredited facilities, and are fully-trained ABPS-certified plastic surgeons a bit of a bad name by association. Rest assured, if your surgeon is a "real" ABPS-certified plastic surgeon, we are required by our professional societies to operate ONLY at fully-accredited facilities or we lose our membership. Thus, a real plastic surgeon will always operate at a hospital, surgery center, or fully-accredited office surgery facility. Plus, we must also maintain credentials at one or more local hospitals in case admission or emergency transfer is needed.
Again, thanks for the kind words, and for highlighting a common concern about office facilities, and allowing a "soapbox" to explain this a bit more for those who will read your review. Best regards! Dr. Tholen
