I am a mid-30's male who has been on active duty in the military for 17 years. I am physically active and athletic, and my activities include hockey, softball, running, and weight lifting. My entire life, my calves were very small and out of proportion with the rest of my body, to the point where I never wore shorts if possible, and was always extremely self-conscious when I did. I had always thought about having calf augmentation surgery, but it seemed like such an off-the-wall thing to do that I never seriously considered it until last year. For the last several years, I had focused my weight training on developing my calf muscles...they got a little more developed but not seriously bigger. Finally last year, I realized that I would never get my calves to where I wanted them to be no matter how much I worked them out in the gym, so I started doing serious research into calf augmentation. I went to see Dr. Gervais because his testimonials from other patients and credentials were all top notch. I chose Dr. Gervais as my surgeon because he was very straight forward with me about my candidacy for this procedure, about what I could honestly expect for my results, and just the fact that his bedside manner was very genuine. I had the surgery done and am extremely pleased with the results. My calves now have a natural size and contour that fit the rest of my body, and this has done wonders for my confidence. I wear shorts all the time now! Now I don't even notice that I have implants. I am able to play hockey and lift weights, and I just ran my physical fitness test in the military and scored very well on the run portion. This surgery has truly changed my life for the better. The first two weeks following surgery were painful and I couldn't get around much, but the pain was mitigated by a properly supervised medication and rest regimen. Overall, I could not be more pleased with the results.

Congratulations!!!! I'm so jealous! I'll be getting it done in August and I'm anxious, excited etc. I have a few questions for you: when were you able to enjoy the results? Would you advise against recovering alone? Is it possible to post pics? Thanks you!

I was pretty much immobile for a couple of weeks, so I would definitely recommend against recovering alone. I could see the results immediately....after about six weeks I was pretty much fully mobile again. Now I am 100% mobile...no issues at all! I will post pictures shortly.

This is my third week and I am recovering alone. I was able to walk right after surgery and one week later walk my little dog, drive car etc. I do wear compression socks and don't put any pressure on my legs, don't lift anything heavier than 5 pounds. They say women recovery is faster, but I think it is varies by individual Good luck with your surgery!

Dr Gervais was also my doctor who did my implants. I am very happy with the procedure - everything went so smooth, no major pain ( I never even used a pain medicine, just a muscle relaxer), scars look fantastic, seems they will fade away pretty quickly. I had two implants in each leg ( supposedly the "athletic look" that is more recommended for males than females) and very happy I did because, as majority of calf implants surgery reviews say, the improvement isn't too significant. One implant in each leg wouldn't change much. However, I am very happy finally to have some 'meat' on my bony legs and can hardly wait to be able to work out on my calf muscles and hamstrings at the gym again. I would absolutely recommend Dr Gervais and his clinic to anyone for any cosmetic procedure. I am coming back this fall for more beauty work!

Here are before and after photos. The pictures are pretty good but don't quite do the final result justice. The little bit of shape that the implants have added really makes all the difference. The scars are visible but have faded quite a bit and continue to fade as time goes on, and don't bother me at all. Ultimately, I am very satisfied and this whole procedure has changed my life for the better.

Thanks! I am very happy. If you manage your expectations and realize that any improvement is a positive result, the. I think you will be happy, too. Best of luck!

Yes, there will be no significant improvement from the front view. The back and side views are better. Mine implants look pretty much the same. Well, as I said earlier, I am happy to have even that one extra inch on my calves. Glad to hear you are happy with your results!

I agree with you that getting two implants in each leg is the way to go for anyone hoping for a more dramatic improvement. Overall, I think mine added about 1 1/2".

Today was my another follow up appointment with Dr Gervais. It will be one month in two days since my surgery. Compression socks are out, today was my first visit to the gym - just upper body and core, no leg day for a few months yet. Now I am wearing my sexy heels and feeling fabulous! So happy with my implants, my Doctor and recovery. As soon as I get pics, I will post before and after.

My experience was the exact opposite, had calf implants put in about 7 years ago. They are hard and feel totally fake anytime anyone touches them. The difference in the appearance of my legs is negligible. They sometimes ache for no reason. Worst decision I ever made.

Were they always like that or was it better at first after the surgery?
June 25, 2015
Mine are hard too, but I love it! Can't imagine squishy calves! Boob implants should be soft, calves should be hard :)

You know, mine are hard as well, but I like it, too!
June 25, 2015
Yes!
June 27, 2015
you say that yours are hard, when other people touch them did they immediately asked you if there are in plans or what happened? It's not that they're hard or squishy it's just that they don't feel at all natural to me.
June 27, 2015
You know I seriously wonder how many people touch other people calves??? I get massage very often and my massage therapist touches my calves, but he doesn't say anything. My husband touches them but he knows anyway. When I get a pedicure they massage my legs and still no one says anything. I guess I just don't have "other people" who want to touch my calves. I do get compliments on my toned arms and now finally! on my legs :)
June 24, 2015
Wow your legs look great. Where's your scar? I don't see it. That's a good thing. I know how it feels to have to cover something that you're so self conscious about so I'm sure this has made a huge difference in your life. Glad you're happy. I would be too.

Hello! What about the scar, still visible or almost completely faded?
Thanks!
June 25, 2022
I'm glad they made you happy. Having mine removed after 24 years, an autoimmune disease and mysterious chronic fatigue. I believe my implants had slowly making me sick until my body couldn't take it any more and went into overdrive. Be careful.

How long did it take the scars to fade away? and did they get bigger after a few months of surgery?
