Given the condition I was being treated for, I have had a significant number of surgical procedures and thus, experience with a number of surgeons. I was fortunate that all the surgeons I used turned out to be excellent practitioners who were compassionate and skilled. I relate this because of all, I’d have to rate Dr. Tholen as the best of these. During my consultation, my situation was patiently and thoroughly explained, discussed, and every question answered in plain language. Though I consulted him for a breast augmentation, it was explained that my treatment would require a procedure more akin to a breast reconstruction with expanders being implanted first. It was clear that he wanted me to have a thorough understanding of everything that would be involved in my treatment from the pre-surgical requirements, the surgeries, recovery times, through the post-surgical routine. (I would require two surgeries on my breasts - March 2009 and December 2009 - with eight weekly visits for saline injections after the first surgery and thereafter, annual check-ups.) While his manner was consistently warm and very calming throughout, it became clear, from my consultation through all my subsequent visits, that every member of his staff exhibited the same caring and professional demeanor. I began to realize that the nature of how they related to their patients was consistent and very genuine. Between my working in the medical field and my experience with many doctors for my condition, I have never been more impressed or satisfied with a physician and his staff.

I found your review really interesting, Shay. I hadn't known you could have a breast augmentation through this reconstruction-like method before. It's very intriguing! Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for sharing your story on RealSelf! How many cc's did you end up getting after your 8 saline injections? It's so nice to hear you had a wonderful staff to deal with during the process of reconstruction. I am happy to hear you are pleased with your results! You deserve it!
I witnessed a relative go through the expander process...not an easy process. Glad you are fitting into your clothes correctly!
