I've known for years that I would get a breast...
I've known for years that I would get a breast augmentation when I was done having kids. Breastfeeding all three babies has taken a toll on my breasts and I knew that no matter how hard I worked to get the rest of my body back in shape, I couldn't change the way my breasts looked.
I knew that I wanted to have the augmentation done in the Minneapolis area, even though I lived almost two hours away. The only places locally that offered cosmetic surgeries were hospitals and the prices were closer to $10,000! It was crazy. Last fall my husband and I were in Minneapolis for a day so I scheduled a couple consultations.
The first doctor we met with was a little scary and honestly, if we didn't already have another consult scheduled for the afternoon elsewhere, I would've said forget it. If this was what I was going to experience, I didn't want any part of it. The doctor was pretty rude and set in his ways. His facility was in an extremely busy building and parking was a nightmare. When we reached his office it was outdated and small. He came to get us, took us on a mini tour and then to the exam room. He told me to put away my pen/paper as I was not to take notes. He would take notes for me and no questions were allowed until he finished his speech. He laid out three implants, told me to pick one and left the room. The only mirror was on the backside of the door and very little room to move. He came back after a few minutes and asked which one I picked. I said I wasn't sure because I was kind of confused, he told me he wasn't coming back in until I picked one and shut the door. So needless to say I just picked a size so I could get out of there. Unimpressed was an understatement!!
Later that same day we were a little hesitant, not knowing what to expect with the next consult but Minneapolis Plastic Surgery was one I definitely wanted to check out. I liked the location, the doctors reviews on this site were great and the pictures on their website really reflected the type of results I wanted. I was able to get in that afternoon with Dr. Gervais. From the moment we pulled into the parking lot, the experience was so much better. Easy to get to, lots of parking, nice building. When we entered the office, we felt welcome. We can't say enough about the entire staff. The consult went great, Dr. Gervais listened attentively and answered all our questions. We immediately felt comfortable with him. The nurse took us back to an awesome dressing room where we tried different implant sizes. It's a very elegant setting, 3-way mirrors so you can see from every angle. She took her time and was very patient as I tried and re-tried sizers many times. We were NEVER rushed. She even told me I could come back, bring friends and/or different outfits to try on sizers again if I wanted. We loved the experience and booked my surgery for 12/31.
Between the consult date and day of surgery, Dr. Gervais and his staff were available to answer any questions I had. I emailed him directly numerous times and within a couple hours, he responded every time. Fast forward to surgery day, they again were very attentive and never rushed us. I wanted to try on sizers again to make sure I was still good with my size choice. Once again, a staff member took me back to the dressing room and helped me try a couple different sizes until I was comfortable with my choice. Surgery was on time, staff was amazing and the entire experience was painless.
I can not express enough how pain-free it was. From the moment I woke up to today, which is 11 weeks later, I had no pain. I didn't take any pain pills after the day of surgery. I continued the antibiotics and muscle relaxers until they were gone. That was it! I'm sure everyone's pain tolerance is different but I truly believe it has a lot to do with the surgeon. Dr. Gervais did an amazing job!
I took it easy the first two weeks as instructed and then eased into my normal life. I was exercising at three weeks and playing volleyball at five weeks. My breasts look and feel great. I highly recommend Dr. Gervais and Minneapolis Plastic Surgery.
