Thanks for posting your pictures. I am in the exact same boat as you. Fraxel damaged my skin. Please dont do any further lasers as it really doesnt help. I researched tons and found that people saying you have to heal your epidermal layer. Numerous people have said emu oil helps and I have just started using it. I would like to follow your journey and stay connected as we heal our skin.

Hi I'm so sorry to hear your trouble with Fraxel. It's so frustrating I thought this was going to be THE answer and take away my imperfections. I asked my derm about the plasma laser and she DID NOT recommend either. She said retinae 2x a week would help with smoothness and Triluma will help with pigmentation. I'm still doing microderm/glycolic peel every couple of weeks. I just want it to be smooth and pigment free!!! Ughhhh wish you the best of luck! :)
April 13, 2017
Do you have any orange peel skin? I have stopped all retin A products for now.
February 3, 2018
You are further destroying your skin, the laser damaged your skin and thrn you are doing peels and using retin a? I'm not sure what kind of derm
You are seeing , she sounds like the derm that ruined my skin with 1 ipl, maybe get a new dr . I saw a new derm and she said use nothing . If you must use something , goodness, not retin a and bleaching cream! The orange peel texture and waxy skin along with red blotches is your skin completely falling apart . Don't look at the acne scars, take a step back and look at the condition of your skin. It can improve but not if you are keeping it under constant inflammation like that . I'm with the other poster , stay far away from lasers/ipl, a lot of thr damage you incurred from laser is very difficult to improve , I wouldn't add to it .

Thank you! I should have clarified I wasn’t doing everything at once but each time I was trying something new.... I haven’t been on anything other than Rodan & Fields Reverse now for over 4 months... I’ve followed directions regularly. While it’s not perfect, my skin is better aside from an occasional annoying zit lol. I still don’t love some of the pigmentation and really want to do another peel or something but I’m going to see a different derm Thursday to see what she says. I wish I could get cool laser but it’s not avail near me yet. Will keep u posted! Anything new with your skin?

Glad you are feeling better and something is helping you . The lasers and ipl do a lot of texture damage , you can see it in almost everyone's photos , some hsve it worse than others but it's nearly always present . Skin doesn't look human anymore . Melasma can be induced by lasers and ipl, lots of heat and def makes existing melasma worse . The skin also become extremely light sensitive in a bizarre way, a few minutes and peoole get a lot of discoloration . I find the ongoing inflammation from these treatments to be the main culprit in the hyper and melasma . A plastic surgeon told me under the dark is red angry skin. Best to not exfoiliate again and no irritating products . It's a difficult battle once laser/ipl does its damage . If you notice the dark spots are s weird color , I think there is some iron leakage as well, it's not normal hyper p, that's for sure, most people's looks a strange brown , like a man's leather shoe. Ipl is not for melasma , a good derm explained that it makes it worse , pushes it into the deeper layers and she almost can't help peoole that had ipl. It's the melasma maker not remover . If someone has melasma , best to go to an expert and try cosmelan, never laser/ipl, or cleanse the liver and control inflammation .
Hope everyone is finding things to help them. Keep us posted on your improvement with your current products . Down the line I'm going to try Osmosis products as the dr seems to know what he is talking about however right now my skin is so damaged from ipl I can't use a thing but bottled water every several days...

Hi Lisa - I came to check on you to see how you are doing. Hope your skin has fully improved. Please keep us posted. Sending you best wishes.
October 13, 2017
Doing well thanks! Thanks! I haven't done any lasers in a while.. I started Rodan & Field Reverse a couple weeks ago... starting to see some improvement so will see how it goes! Now that summer is over the melasma is so much better. How are you doing?
October 12, 2017
Give the lasers a rest. Try to treat your skin with niacinamide and peels. Also alternate vitamin C serum. Wear sunscreen
October 13, 2017
Thanks! Yes I agree haven't done any lasers in a while.. I started Rodan & Field Reverse a couple weeks ago... starting to see some improvement so will see how it goes!

Interesting. That’s a company just starting here in Australia. I’ll be interested to see progress

I have the same problem 1.5 years post treatment. I have a large whiter patch on my face and somewhat on the other side and areas of hyperpigmentation in relation to this that I did not have before. It seemed to grow worse over time. It looks much like yours. It took longer to show up that way, however.

It will ruin your life! Worst thing I have ever done to myself. Your pores will get larger from it because the laser destroys your collagen or something like that. Even if you lose less than half a millimenter of fat/collagen it will drastically change your appearance as receding facial fat will expose your pores amongst other terrible side effect. I had it done to get rid of a melasma. Now I wish I kept it. Do not trust any before after pics. They're photoshopped or taken under different lighting or with different lenses.
Among receding facial fat it will cause other discolorations, e.g orangy color like Donald Trump or blotchy skin. Your temples get hollow. It's criminal!

I've been asked to update from many people, so I attached pics of my cheeks 3 months later. I have done numberoys this ha since my Fraxel which was 12/26/17. Yesterday I tried IPL and have been doing microdermabrasion and glycolic peels every couple weeks. I'm still unhappy with it. My Fraxel was so expensive and in my opinion not worth it. Good luck!

Day 18

lisas87
Well, I'm just going to post the cheek that gives me the most aggravation. You'll see Day 1 vs day 18 below. I've found that the hydroquinone seems to make my face flush and brings out more blemishes so I'm using it every other day. I've also switched to organic face wash as of yesterday (Juice Beauty-found at Sephora) and I will only use Honest lotions or this now. No more chemicals for me. And I look really pale bc this hydroquinone is literally bleaching my skin, so don't mind that I need a spray tan desperately.

Looks good! I maybe should use that hydro stuff too. What brand do you use?
January 17, 2017
Sorry for delay! How's your skin doing?? I use Hydroquinone 4% it's generic but the company that makes the current one I'm using is by Astellas.
January 17, 2017
It's okay! It's going good. Still kind of dry around my eyes. But just moisturizing. And a lot of the redness is gone so I thought the hydro quinine might help with that. Did u get a prescription for that?
January 17, 2017
Yes def need Rx for that... it helps with hyperpigmentatom...
January 18, 2017
Yeah today I noticed my skin is back to normal. Seems drier too. So even with the more aggressive treatment it just went back to normal FYI :/ kind of loosing hope right now . Sorry I don't mean to be negative
January 18, 2017
Oh no!!! Darn, I'm literally in the derm right now, I'll let you know what they say... wonder if we should try another option or stick to doing more?! Ugh soooo annoying I totally empathize with you!!
January 18, 2017
Yeah let me know what your Derm says. I think I get the same results with microneedleing. Might so back to that.
January 19, 2017
Sooo the derm was happy with my pigmentation, I'm not sure if you have that issue I get melasma and it's very annoying. The hydroquinone works for sure, but you need to be careful in the sun. She told me not to bother with another Fraxel, but I'm going back in 2 weeks, I may want to do 1 more or see what they can do about smoothness of the skin. In the meantime, she's switching my Soldyn (antibiotic) to doxycycline and told me to use topical Aczone on my cheeks bc they are looking almost rosacia like- which I don't normally have. So frustrating because it's always something! Soooo my plan is to switch these two things, try for 2 weeks and reassess. I'd like to do one more smoothing type of treatment. This office doesn't even do microneedling so I'm skeptical on that. I did it once, downtime sucked, and my skin went rt back. I don't know I think multiple treatments will be the key for you and you are so young you are way ahead of it!! So I'd keep at it and give it the full shot. Just ask them about hydroquinone or Triluma.
January 19, 2017
Thanks for the feedback! I used a exfoliator for the first time since I got my laser so my face feels a lot smoother. My doctor did tell me i will need multiple sessions for Fraxel or microneedleing to see results. It's something you need to stick with. I'm just so impatient lol. I am on doxycycline right now. I also have been on spirlactone (Aldactone) for 2 years and that has helped with my hormonal acne a lot! I used to get huge cysts and now I just get a pimple here and sometimes a small break out but not like before. My acne is all hormonal. I know how you feel it's always something!
February 9, 2017
Hey just checking in! How are you doing? Do you go for your 2nd Fraxel soon? I'm pondering what to do next... I'd like to do another laser treatment, but going to see what my skin aesthetician can offer on 2/23
February 9, 2017
I have an appt for my second one on March 9th. So I'm going to do that I can't wait! I'm glad you responded back . I have been having a really hard time dealing with my acne scarring I kind of hit rock bottom. Especially the scars on my forehead. I had some filler put in by another doctor before my laser to a few of the scars on my forehead but it looks lumpy and I'm really upset about it right now :/
February 9, 2017
Awww don't worry, when did u get the filler? Perhaps it's just a little swollen. You can try buying a jade roller ($12) on amazon to help roll out the texture..... you also can do an 'at home' micro needling roller which you can Youtube on the 'how' in the meantime.... they aren't going to be too expensive but may help in the interim till your next treatment...
February 9, 2017
I got it a week before my laser so the swelling should be down now. I think there is too much there and looks abnormal to me. I was thinking of dermarolling myself on my forehead . I'm just so exhausted. I'm thinking of getting bangs to cover it but I hate to think I'm doing something just to cover up. Thanks for listening to me btw
February 9, 2017
I think I can have some of the filler dissolved but I'm scared it will do my indented scare too... ugh
February 10, 2017
Definitely ask the doc who did the filler what the best next step is and maybe before dissolving, you can get a 2nd opinion from the one that did the lazer just to be sure.... btw I literally just read an article about how bangs are so in (Selena Gomez and Gigi just cut) I wish I could do bangs!! My damn hair is too thin!!! Ughhhh lol. Just remember we are our own TOUGH critics, don't be so hard on yourself!! I'm sure you look great and the best part is, it's winter, so by the next treatment you'll get better and better and by spring you'll be a new you! That's what I'm focusing on, eating right, working out, AND always the skin it's a fulltime job! I share in your frustration!!! Also there's a peel called the Perfect 10 we could try!!! I'm here for you along the journey! Keep me posted with everything!
February 10, 2017
I'm not sure if my other post commented, but check with both docs to confirm dissolving might be right for you... in the meantime bangs are totally in, Selena and Gigi just cut and if I didn't have such thin hair I wish I could!!! Lol And finally don't be so hard on yourself you're awesome and you prob look amazing and are your own worst critic!!! Be gentile on yourself. Get through the next treatment and before you know it spring will be here and this tough journey will be behind us!!! Keep me posted on what's next! I'm off to FL today hoping my hyperpigmentation doesn't explode lol!! Oh well gotta live ;). Be I touch upon my return!! And go for the bangs! Edgy, get them done by the best hair stylist you can it'll make you feel beautiful as you are!
February 10, 2017
Thanks ur so helpful! I hope you have a good time in Florida and I'm going to look up that perfect 10 peel! Enjoy the sun but wear a ton of sunscreen! :)
February 10, 2017
Oh and I made an appt yesterday to follow up with the filler doctor on Wednesday next week... I'm nervous
March 2, 2017
Hey how's it going? Any good updates with your skin? Mine is acting up again :(((. I got a facial and of course broke out. I'm going back to see what the heck I need to do. Just wish skin looked like JLO!! Ugh she's lucky ;). Hope you are well!
February 12, 2017
Hello there, I just had my first fractional laser session 11 days ago. I dob't see any difference till now except for the dead skin from the laser is almost gone. I am doing the fractional because of my acne scars. From what I read online I need to wait for at least a couple of weeks to actually see and feel the results so I am waiting and hoping for the best. I need to ask you about the hydroquinone product that you're using. I have a very dark shade, giving me a moustache like appearence although I don't have any hair in that area and none of the products I used before over the course of 10 years made any improvement. So I want to know if your dermatologist prescribed it for you after the fraxel or your using it on your own? Also do you know if it works with hyperpigmentation cases?
February 27, 2017
Hi, sorry for delay in getting back.... it sounds like you may have melasma. That darkening over the lip is a classic sign. Hydroquinone would work for that. You can ask for that in 4%. If you are prone to melasma, you'll have to wear sunscreen everyday, stay out of the sun or take great caution in the sun (that's my issue). You can also be prescribed Triluma which has hydroquinone in it and indicated for Melasma. It's expensive so just tell your pharmacy to explore any available coupons. I personally feel 1 Fraxel treatment was a total waste. It's so expensive so I'm not doing it again..... I wish you the best though!!!
March 10, 2017
Can you post an update? I'm going to follow your story. I've heard it takes months to see the final results.
March 31, 2017
I didn't notice much witg1 treatment... how do you feel?

I did microneedling it appeared good at first and there was definitely down time but it's def not a one and done treatment....
March 10, 2017
Hey lisa, how was florida? I just had my second fraxel laser today. My face isnt as swollen when I left the office like last time which I am happy about. How is your skin doing?
March 13, 2017
That's so great! Definitely keep me posted on your results! I did a facial 2 weeks ago (broke out) and then microdermabrasion and peel this Friday & it's finally looking good rt now (hoping not to break out, I don't want to jinx myself!). The facial brought out blemishes, but I bought a package of micro/peels and I'm going to do those every 2 weeks. I can't wait to see how you're doing. Did the other issue resolve? Btw FL was nice the weather there was great, thank you! Now we are bracing for this Noreaster storm, hoping it passes. KIT! :)
March 14, 2017
Yes we got a lot of now here today in Michigan as well! I decided to wait until after this laser to decide on dissolving the filler. The doctor said who did the laser said the heat from the laser might flatten anything out that wasn't injected deep enough. Today is day 5 since the laser. I still have some dry spots. I'm guessing it will all flake off by tomorrow. I'm nervous for my results after this laser because everyone online is saying that after the second one is when they had problems. ( don't want to jinx myself too) I just don't like my acne scars so I wanted to try it again. We compared my before and after photos from the first laser and the doctor was surprised there was some improvement in my acne scars because usually you don't see that after the first procedure. I'll keep you posted for sure as I heal over the next few days! What type of peel are you getting?
March 31, 2017
Hey how's it going??? Did Fraxel help second go around? The peel I've been doing has 30% glycolic in it but it's very md I don't actually peel... that with micro I'm trying to see if that helps. I just did a photo facial with IPL. I'm hoping this helps too. Next week I'm going to do peel/micro followed by radio frequency facial. I'll try anythimg to fix my skin!! Lol keep me posted on how u r!!
March 31, 2017
Hey thanks for checking in. On my left cheek one of my scars looks way deeper. I'm pretty upset about it because it's counter productive. I'm not sure if it's going to get better or what. My left side of my ace also feels thinner. The other side and my forehead look better though. I'm so worried. If it doesn't heal I'm going to get filler in that scar. I'm pretty upset about it right now though :/ brought my self confidence down even more. I kind of wish I never did the second treatment.
March 31, 2017
Maybe try the radio frequency facial before more filler? It's supposed to be collagen stimulating... I haven't tried it yet, but it's on the list! I know it's such a journey, but I'm glad to hear your Forehead is better, I know that bothered you before... perhaps the Cheek will rebound the same. I know I hate the texture of my skin, sux. my pigmentation has been annoying too. I'll let you know how the IPL and micro & radiofrequency work...
I'm glad to hear from you, but hoping we will both feel happier next time!!! TGIF we need some Vitamin D :)
March 31, 2017
Oh also I bought all juice beauty products, cleansing serums etc all are organic so let's see if that helps too!
March 31, 2017
Thanks! I'm going it improves! Please let me know how that goes. I'm trying to be patient but I seriously am the most impatient person and I know you need to be patient with these things healing and the process. I have had the worst luck with my acne scars so I'm just getting frustrated.
March 31, 2017
Me too!! Believe me I get it!!!! Sooooooo annoying!!! I just can't wait for spring to have some cheer to think about! Rain + feeling terrible = sux. Lol. Oh well we can just keep on trying we have no other choice!
March 31, 2017
Right I haven't given up yet. Just trying to move forward
