Horrible decision. Invisalign has destroyed my bite and two molars are in danger of dying. Please do not get it. You run the risk of acquiring a posterior open bite.
My whole life has revolved around this treatment. My molars hurt so much I'm forced to have all my calories in two meals a day. One is blended and the other is soft food. It has ruined my life and I can only pray that things will get better. Please be aware that these trays can push your teeth into your gums and will require bands and refinements to be corrected. If you can, please go with regular braces. These are expensive and they are not worth the hassle. I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy. If I can save just one person from doing this... Contact me if you need any advice or have any questions. I will gladly answer them for you and tell you in explicit detail the horrors I've gone through.

Hi I was wondering if things have improved for you? Is the open bite the main issue that resulted from the treatment?

Hi! The problems from my bite were a direct result of the treatment. I had a perfect bite pre-treatement. I had some crowding in the front, but on the clincheck it is clear that my bite would not change, only expand. I've read the open bite in the back happens because of the thickness of the plastic. Your body is tricked into believing the teeth are too far out so they sink into the gums. This doesn't happen to everyone but the orthodontist told me this happened BC of the invisalign. I also have two molars that have been severely affected BC of the treatment. The movement disturbed an old pulp cap and has created so much sensitivity that I may need a root canal. Another molar has bone loss around the root, which is normal during treatment, but the problem is that it's not growing back even though it's been in the same place for a couple of months. My dentist wanted me to take a break front treatment upon seeing that. My orthodontist while reluctant to slow down complied and I'm now in retainers for only my front teeth.

Hello and thank you for sharing. I just started treatment and had an open bite before starting treatment but I can already feel my molars either getting smaller or sinking into my gums. Did your dentist inform you on how this may be corrected? Will the bands help correct your open posterior bite? In your clincheck before starting treatment, did it show a different result than you are seeing now?

Thanks again and I wish the very best for you. I can't say I know how you feel exactly because we all have our own experiences, but I understand how frustrating teeth alignment and tmj pain can be. Best wishes.

Hi! Thanks for your kind words. Any encouragement helps.
As for my teeth, you can see on my before picture that bite was actually aligned. It was pretty darn good. The only issue for me was crowding at the front. My orthodontist expanded my bite in order to correct the frontal crowding. The clincheck showed that my bite would not change, only expand. He told me the open bite in the back was a common issue at the end of treatment due to the thick plastic. The only way to correct it is to wait for the molars to settle and migrate back out, or to use rubber bands to pull them further out so that they will meet. He cut my trays in half so that my molars are all exposed and only my front teeth are in retainers. I have to wait two months and see if there is any improvement and we will resume treatment to correct anything else that's out of place. My molars have been severely irritated from the movement, one is in danger of a root canal(no cavity just sensitivity) and another one is having issues restoring bone around the root. So rubber bands are out of the question right now for me. My teeth look like on the clincheck but I've read it doesn't take into account the effects the thickness of the plastic will have on your bite. Which is why people can developed the open bite in the back at the end of treatment. My advice to you is to make sure you don't clench down while wearing them if it can be avoided. Was your open bite in the front or in the back? I sincerely do hope your issues will be corrected. I don't want anyone to have to go through what I have.

I just got my first aligner and have only had the tray in for 3 days and have developed a posterior open bite too. I've stopped wearing them as of now but I'm afraid it won't get better. Has your open bite been fixed? Best wishes

Hi! My orthodontist cut my aligners in half to where my molars are exposed. My bite is absolutely destroyed as of now. Over the course of the two month break I was given, some molars began to touch, but in a very odd way. They don't come neatly together, possibly because the molars are not aligned properly. I'm going on tuesday for new impressions and have a round of refinements to try and fix it. Honestly, don't let my horrid luck discourage you. I've been very unlucky with my treatment. Two dentists have confirmed that my molars (all 4 on the bottom) have been affected negatively due to the treatment and it's up to my orthodontist to complete this in the least invasive manner. I will keep you updated with my progress. I'm planning on making a youtube video on it so maybe I'll post it on here so people can see what exactly has happened to me. I want people to be aware of the drawbacks of this treatment.

I wish you the best of luck on this journey as well, please don't be discouraged, but I will do my best to tell you what I've been through so you can know your options and hopefully not have to deal with the same things I have.

Hey just a quick update. Doctor said to finish with invisalign I'd need another year or more so he is switching me to regular braces so I can finish in a few months.

Hi, I agree.. Do not touch this rubbish, go with braces and make sure type do it through an orthodontist. I had Invisalign back in 2015, 5 weeks into the procedure o had an allergic reaction to this garbage and have had Burning Mouth Syndrome ever since. I’m in pain and will be in pain for the rest of my life as these things created severe nerve damage in my mouth. I’m have nothing good to say about Invisalign or the dentist that clearly didn’t know what she was doing. I got my money refunded but had to painstakingly put my complaint through the Health Rights Commission. the

Me again, sorry for the errors, I am unable to fix them. Anyway as I was saying, think twice about using Invisalign, you do not want to run the risk of developing BMS. I was told by a Dental Specialist that these things would never have straightened my teeth. The dentist I daw about doing the job certainly made it sound convincing and worth while. Boy, my biggest regret and mistake was to trust her. Google BMS, if you’re unlucky enough to develop a problem such as nerve damage due to using Invisalign it will be your greatest regret in life.
