2018 is my 50th year on earth and is going to be about me and feeling fabulous.
I’ve been a sun worshipper all my life, but a non smoker and occasional drinker. I’ve never bothered with skin care routines and would call myself VERY lazy when it comes to my appearance. I like minimum effort for maximum effect - probably like so many of us. Infact, I had my eyeliner and eyebrows tattooed 20 plus years ago in a tattoo studio and everyone thought I was insane. Who can be bothered with eyeliner and mascara? Not I. I’m a red lippy girl, squirt of good perfume and away I go ready to get on with the day.
In short, I’ve been told I have good genes and decent skin - thanks ma, but unfortunately those heavy, wrinkly European eyelids are part of the package.
Of late, I was being asked whether I was tired or sad. I was neither. So, upper eyelid bleph was my answer. From making the decision to going in for surgery was a two week turn around. No mucking about here, I tell you.
I booked into Cosmetique in Midland, Australia and met with the personable and down to earth Dr Vivek Eranki who immediately understood I wanted a ‘freshen up’ and a subtle tweak to take me into my next decade with a sassy wink.
I turned up at 10am, spent a good 15 minutes being marked up, checked and turned from side to side until the Dr was satisfied. He was in no rush, which I valued. We discussed the procedure in detail, the type of pain relief, time frame, etc etc. I found Dr Vivek to be very thorough, simple and straightforward in his explainations and more than willing to take time to address my questions.
Surgery was in one of the clinic rooms. Valium and a concoction of other pain relief was given intravenously and before I knew it, surgery was underway. The entire time Dr Vivek told me what he was doing and why. I was not in any pain or discomfit at any point. My only odd moment was the smell of my skin burning when blood vessels were being cauterised. Other than this, I was relaxed and comfy. For anyone freaking out about not going under, dont.
I had more work done on the right eye than the other but after approx 85 minutes the procedure was done. I was cleaned up, taken into a recovery room and discussed after care. Soon after, I was home and marvelling at how quick it all was.
It is now day 4. I have had two tramadol and several panadol for pain relief and nothing more. I am taking the prescribed antibiotics 4 times a day and using the prescribed eye ointment 4 times a day. I used cold compresses religiously for the first 48 hours and I think this helped a great deal with the minimal bruising as did sleeping as upright as you can handle. No exercise, doing house chores etc.
Sutures were removed on day 3 as apparently I heal remarkably fast. My eyes - vision - have been somewhat tired at times and that is my cue to lie down with a cold compress. Reading and being on the iPad were impossible for the first 3 days. Today my vision is clear, and reading is not a problem. I return to the clinic on 17th for another check up and will be told how to massage the skin to enable better healing.
In short ladies, it is very early days but I do feel that I will come out of this with a fresher look about the eyes and that was my intent. I am currently discussing a thread lift to pep up a slightly down turned lip but that will take place a few months down the road when my eyes have settled.
I have included pics - before and up to today. The quality is not that flash, but hey, they do give you an idea.
Hugs,
X

One week today
Well it’s been exactly a week since the surgery and I could not be happier. Even put some lippy on today and headed out without powder or foundation without too many stares.
Back to the Dr tomorrow for a check up. Healing well, though eyes still very swollen and I feel, as if half their normal size. LOL. Time will reveal all
