I have been reading reviews here for a while, and I have had electrolysis in the past - 2008 and 2013 - sessions each year - don't remember how many. I have also had laser hair removal in the past. None worked, so I started shaving. I have a sort of goatee situation. It has been bothering me more lately, so I started more research, and decided I would not do laser - too many folks noted more and thicker hair growth later. I looked through electrolysis membership boards and found someone who does all three types - galvanic, thermolysis, and blend. I had my first visit Tuesday after work, and I first made sure I slathered my chin with lidocaine. I let it sit for 2 hours - I do not like pain.
I met Marie, and she explained to me all three types of electrolysis AFTER asking me if I had problems with keloids. That let me know she had worked on darker skin. I do not remember ever getting so thorough an explanation. She noted that hormones, what you drank, and countless other things could impact how well it went. She told me she would start with blend as that seemed to work well on the stiff hairs of the chin.
She told me some of the hair was curly, some was dead, and she explained that the probe is straight, so she can't follow all the way down to follicle in some cases. She also informed me that blend technique could take up to 15 seconds a hair. She worked on my face for about 1 hour and I had minimal pain. Wasn't even pain. I made an appt. to come back the next day.

I went in on Apr. 8, and Marie continued on the right side of my chin and underneath. She only had a limited time to work on me, and she started running out of time to do the left side.,She didn't want the hair removal to be lopsided, so she used another method - I forget which, but that hurt like hell! It also left marks. I wanted to say just forget it, I'll shave before the next appt. I was squeezing the hell out of that tube. I had made sure to apply the cream, but it didn't work anywhere near as well as on the right side. I will be going in again on Wednesday, and I will post more photos when I figure it out.

Went in on Wednesday April12, and had a few hairs removed from right side and had left side worked on. Had thoroughly numbed myself with the cream - 2 hours, but there was an area right on the bone of the chin on the left side that hurt like hell. BTW, the last time she worked on hairs quickly it was the thermolysis - nope, not gonna do that. Hurts bad. Scheduled for April 26, but I called her yesterday because I could feel hairs coming up on right side and knew I wouldn't make it until next week without shaving. She's close, so no big deal. going tonight - no caffeine today.
