Hello,
I am 58 years old, 5'2 and I weigh 150lbs. My bra size is 38H. I have back problems with S1 and L4 and 5 disc issues . I also have small bulging disc on each side of my neck. I was overweight and lost 40 pounds and I was hoping that my breasts would get smaller. But they didn't. I should have done the surgery a long time ago but insurance was an issue. I just got approved and will have my surgery in March. I am extremely nervous but I can't take the pain anymore.
I am happy I found this site because I am learning such much from all these brave women.

Best of luck to you. I had my breast reduction because of my back too. It's to early to tell if it's helped. The Drs told me 99.9% of the time it helps. With those odds I took the chance. I had my surgery1-7. Will keep you informed

HI. I am only 4 days PO now but I have to tell you....having a breast reduction is the best thing I have ever done for myself! My back and hips were off the wall on the pain scale the morning I went in for my surgery. Soon as I woke up....I knew it was better in my upper back. I have come to realize since being home and settled just how much the surgery has helped my lower back as well. I have already had surgery in 2012 on the L5-S1 area and the pain has been back but in a different way. Anyway....I am going to neurosurgeon on the 4th of Feb to address the back and leg issues.
To make my story alot shorter for you.....I cannot tell you what is best for you to do. I can only tell you I def have NO regrets with having my breast reduction. I love the look and the feel and the fact that I am not in that much pain now is just too good to be true for me. There are lots of ladies on here that have had this surgery done to help with their back and neck pain. Keep reading as they all helped me so much in the scary weeks ahead of my surgery. LOL! And all to find out ...there wasn't anything to be scared of. Good Luck to you with your surgery and I hope this surgery gives you at least some of the relief it has given me. Stay in touch ok. I would love to know how you are doing! Dee

I feel as you do! And omigosh we sound so similar! I am wondering if the back us a bit sore because the weight is off and it is re aligning or something.. Its like high between shoulders. I imagine the body has to readjust overall when the chest hasn't that weight pulling always? Its my only pain so I am trying to figure it out Lol

How are you doing? My son was explaining to me that I will have to adjust my back and the way I hold myself up. My surgery is next Tuesday, God willing. Excited and nervous at the same time.

An H sounds very big for your frame and weight. It should help. Even if not 100% just think about how much skinnier you will look, how much easier it will be to have smaller boobs when your 70. I just did it at 58 and things are going ok. I wanted to do it in my 30s and 40s but insurance was an issue for me too. While the whole complications thing seems like a crap shoot I think you'll do just fine. It is not too late!

Thanks, my son told me the same thing. I can't wait and March 24th seems so far. I've waited this long, I can wait a little longer. I hope you've gotten some relief for your back.

I am about the same age, weight, height and bra size. Although I don't have back problems, my large breasts cause all kinds of other issues. I'm sure we'll both feel much better and be happier after surgery. Mine is scheduled for April 21st. Good luck with yours!

Surgery Went well
gluzrodriguezMarch 27, 2015
I had my surgery on March 24th. It took about 4 hours. Brought me down to a size D cup but it will probably be C because of the swelling. I still have pain and I am feeling dizzy and not much energy. Taking my pain killers every four hours on the dot. I had to stop because it causes constipation. Started taking miralax and eating fruits. Hopefully it will work soon. My stomach is still bloated from all the fluids they gave me during surgery. I've been sleeping in my lounge chair because it's more comfortable getting up. My surgeon reiterated with me during the surgery that my heavy chest has pulled on my front part of the body, and that they were extremely heavy. He said he didn't know, how I did it for so long. Immediately after surgery I felt all the weight off my upper body. My surgeon didn't use any tubes or bandages . He used this special glue that heals faster and helps with the scarring. I am very happy with the results. I will say to all the ladies that are waiting, it's worth it all. I wish you the very best.

I'm glad to hear that all went well! I'm 62 and one month post-op. My energy is good most days, but then I take a step back for a day or two, probably when I haven't slept well the night before. Take heart - each day gets better and better!

I just had my final consult and my procedure is set for April 15th. I was advised to get a sports bra or two and became very emotional in the Macy's foundation department. The array of bras and the colors overwhelmed me. It has been a long long time for me to go into a regular bra department and look at such pretty bras. When you are a 40H the selection is very limited and in most cases you have to special order. To actually after this be able to buy matching tops and bottoms will be awesome. I think the saleslady thought I was coo-coo as I got teary eyed. I can't wait for these to go and get this pressure off my shoulders and back.

Update on surgery
gluzrodriguezMarch 31, 2015
Went to see my surgeon and he informed me that my left nipple is a little darker because the bra they gave me was a little too tight and circulation needs to occur. I will start using the other bra the hospital gave me. Suggested I do not buy bras until about six weeks so that the swelling can go down. He said no underwire till about 3 months. Hopefully no underwires ever again. No signs of infection, thank God. Still feeling tired and pain especially at night. Still using my pain meds and drinking prune juice. I weighed myself and I lost 7 pounds. I was so surprised. Haven't had much of an appetite lately. I am happy because I gained 10 pounds before the surgery because of the stress. Will keep you guys updated on my progress.

Hi can I ask you what doctor did you use?how did you had the insurance company to aprove it?
April 10, 2015
Hi,
I used Dr. Borkowski located Middletown, Ct. I was seeing an orthopedic doctor for years for my disc issues. I had to go to my primary doctor and he recommended the doctor. When I met my surgeon he knew immediately that my breast were to heavy for my body size. He completed the paperwork for my insurance. It was approved about 6 weeks.
Congratulations on getting this going. You will feel amazing once this is done. Having my reduction changed my life. Couldn't be any happier.
Glad to hear this:) Let me know if you have any questions at all, or just want to chat.
I also had the same concerns prior to my surgery. But honesty neither were so bad. The results far outweigh the short recovery and scarring. With proper scar care mine are almost totally gone.
Men usually don't:) But that's ok, you have many RealSelf Sisters here.
